Overview

Comodo Internet Security is a Windows suite that brings antivirus, firewall controls and isolation for unknown files together. It suits people who want more control than antivirus alone provides, especially at no cost, but its documented Windows support ends at Windows 10, 8 and 7.

Its strongest case is the combination of a configurable firewall and automatic sandboxing in the free core edition. The trade-off is that remediation is manual, and the paid tiers add support or services rather than changing the basic Windows focus.

Key features

Comodo combines antivirus protection with a packet-filtering firewall and host intrusion prevention. Cloud antivirus scanning, behavior analysis and whitelisting complement those core defenses. Quarantine, offline scanning and bootable rescue media provide additional ways to respond to threats; remediation automation is manual, so users should not expect every cleanup step to happen automatically.

Auto Sandbox: Unknown files run in an isolated environment, limiting their ability to affect the computer. This is a useful safeguard for people who regularly handle unfamiliar downloads, though it does not remove the need to make decisions when a threat requires remediation.
Firewall: Users can block unauthorized inbound and outbound connections, decide which programs may access the internet, and stealth ports. That level of control is a plus for users who want to manage network access, but it can demand more attention than a set-and-forget antivirus product.
Secure Shopping: An isolated browser session includes keylogger prevention, screen-capture blocking and SSL certificate inspection. The isolation can also be used for applications such as email clients, password managers, spreadsheets, FTP clients and VPN clients.
Website filtering: Malicious Website Filtering blocks dangerous sites and supports custom block lists for family members, making it more useful in a household than a protection suite limited to device-level scanning.

For Windows 10, the guide gives minimum requirements of 384 MB available RAM, 210 MB of disk space, an SSE2-capable CPU and Internet Explorer 5.1 or later. The guide names Windows 10, 8 and 7; CIS 12.0.0.6882 and later does not support Windows XP or Vista.

Pricing

The free Comodo Internet Security Premium plan is free and provides core security features for a Windows PC. It is the natural starting point for home users who want the main security functions without paying, but the free tier does not include the paid support benefits.

Comodo Internet Security Pro is priced by device: 1 device costs 29.99 USD per year, billed at $29.99 for 12 months; 3 devices cost 39.99 USD per year, billed at $39.99 for 12 months. Both include GeekBuddy expert support and a virus-free guarantee covering repair costs up to $500 if Comodo support cannot restore an infected PC. The single-device option fits an individual; the three-device option is the more relevant one for a small household.

A separate Pro plan is priced at 39.99 USD per year, billed annually, and includes GeekBuddy support and the virus-free guarantee. Complete costs 89.99 USD per year, billed annually, and adds 50GB of online storage and 10GB per month of TrustConnect. Complete makes sense only for someone who wants those included services as well as security; the cheaper Pro plans focus on support and the guarantee.

Platforms

Comodo Internet Security is for Windows. The supported versions are Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7; newer CIS releases do not support XP or Vista. There is no listed version for macOS, Linux or mobile platforms, so users protecting a mixed-device household will need another solution for those systems.

Who it's for

Choose Comodo if you use a supported Windows version and want a free suite with a firewall you can configure, sandboxing for unknown files and family-oriented website blocks. It is less suitable if you need current support for XP or Vista, automatic remediation, or protection across non-Windows devices. Users who want expert help with cleanup have a reason to consider Pro; those who do not need that support can stay with the free core plan.

Pros and cons

Pro: The free plan includes core security features, including a firewall and automatic sandboxing, rather than antivirus alone.
Pro: Firewall rules cover inbound and outbound connections and per-program internet access, giving users meaningful control over network behavior.
Pro: Secure Shopping adds isolation and protections against keylogging and screen capture for sensitive browsing and supported applications.
Con: Supported operating systems are limited to Windows 10, 8 and 7; later CIS releases do not support XP or Vista.
Con: Threat remediation is manual, which can leave more work to the user when responding to an infection.
Con: Paid-plan names and offers vary: Pro is presented with different seat counts and prices, while Complete adds storage and monthly TrustConnect usage. Buyers should match the specific device count and included services to their needs.

Verdict

Comodo Internet Security is a strong fit for Windows users on a supported version who want a free suite with a configurable firewall, automatic sandboxing and useful protections for sensitive browsing. Its main reason to choose it is that breadth in the free core plan; look elsewhere if you need non-Windows coverage, support for XP or Vista, or automated remediation.
