Overview

CompeteTracker is a web app for Shopify merchants who want competitor prices to inform their own pricing decisions. It is best suited to stores that want pricing recommendations with a human approval step, rather than changes made without review. Its focus on per-variant approval gives merchants control, while the free plan’s three-competitor limit leaves little room for broad monitoring.

Key features

The app automatically tracks competitor prices, products and promotions across websites, with pricing history and real-time data refresh. Its competitor database populates automatically, and competitor discovery can help merchants identify sites to monitor without entering every URL themselves. Instant price-change alerts bring changes to attention, although the value of monitoring depends on whether the tracked competitors are relevant to a store’s range.

Catalog matching connects a merchant’s products to comparable competitor listings, and out-of-stock products are excluded from recommendations. Users can choose to match the lowest price, target the median or undercut the lowest by a configured percentage. A price floor and maximum change per cycle provide useful boundaries for those strategies; they matter most to merchants who want competitive pricing without letting a recommendation push a product below their chosen threshold.

Recommendations show the matched competitors and pricing anchors, and users approve each change per variant before it is applied. One-click Shopify updates and an audit trail support a controlled workflow, while automatic currency normalization avoids comparing prices in different currencies. The two-minute setup claim and no-card free plan lower the barrier to trying the service, but do not remove the need to check whether its matches fit the catalog.

Pricing

CompeteTracker uses a freemium model. The Free plan is free and monitors 3 competitors. It is a practical way for a small store to explore competitor-based recommendations, but three competitors can be restrictive for merchants comparing a wider market.

Starter costs 19.99 USD per month, with billing of $19.99 / month or $180/year and save 25%; it monitors 10 competitors. This is the more suitable step for a store that has outgrown the free allowance but still has a focused competitor set. Pro costs 49.99 USD per month, with billing of $49.99 / month or $480/year and save 20%; it monitors 25 competitors. That larger allowance better fits merchants tracking a broader group, though the plans’ stated distinction is competitor capacity, so buyers should weigh the additional coverage against their actual monitoring needs.

Platforms

CompeteTracker is available on the web and is built around Shopify pricing updates. The Shopify app accesses device and activity data, store-owner contact details, products, inventory, collections and the last 60 days of order history. Merchants should consider that access alongside the pricing workflow before connecting a store.

Who it's for

CompeteTracker fits Shopify merchants who want competitor intelligence tied directly to pricing decisions, especially those who value reviewing each variant before an update. Stores with a limited competitor set can start on Free; merchants needing more coverage can move to Starter or Pro. It is less compelling for businesses outside Shopify or for buyers whose priority is monitoring across a broad range of platforms.

Pros and cons

Pro: Per-variant approval, visible pricing anchors, price floors and change limits keep recommendations reviewable and bounded.
Pro: Automatic competitor discovery, catalog matching and out-of-stock filtering add context beyond simply collecting prices.
Pro: Currency normalization and one-click Shopify updates connect analysis to a concrete merchant workflow.
Con: The Free plan covers only 3 competitors, and even Pro is capped at 25, which may not cover a large competitive set.
Con: Its Shopify-centered workflow makes it a poor fit for merchants seeking a general-purpose pricing tool across other commerce platforms.

Alternatives

For a broad comparison of tools in this category, see Competitor Price Monitoring Software.

Choose ShopSavvy instead if you want a price-comparison service spanning mobile, browser and desktop access across Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows, rather than a Shopify-centered repricing workflow.

Pricefy is worth considering if its free allowance of up to 50 SKUs, 5 competitors and daily price updates suits a small catalog better than CompeteTracker’s three-competitor free cap.

Consider Competitors if its Starter plan’s up to 500 SKUs and 3 competitors with daily checks and email alerts align better with your monitoring needs.

Priceva offers a free Starter plan with up to 6,200 price checks per month, up to 20 competitors or sites, up to 20 products and one user; it may suit a buyer prioritizing defined check and product quotas.

Choose SimplePriceMonitor if its free allowance of 5 products, 3 competitors per product, daily checks and seven-day history is a closer match for a compact monitoring task.

SpotRival is another option for web and browser-extension users, with a free plan that includes three monitors, daily checks, alerts and price history.

Agenty may be a better fit when the requirement is page monitoring through agents, including a Basic plan with 5,000 pages monthly, up to 10 agents and up to two users.

Retailgrid is an alternative to consider for retail-grid monitoring.

Verdict

CompeteTracker is a strong fit for Shopify merchants who want competitor-based pricing suggestions but insist on approving changes variant by variant. Its combination of matching, configurable strategies and guardrails gives recommendations a clear path to action without surrendering control. Look elsewhere if you need more than 25 monitored competitors or a platform not centered on Shopify.
