Overview

ServiceM8 is field-service software for contractors who need to coordinate jobs, crews and customer payments. Its broad mix of job and team tools is compelling, but the right plan depends on how many jobs and SMS messages your business handles each month.

It supports Android, iOS and macOS, with a separate desktop app for Mac or PC. Offline mode is useful for field teams working without a reliable connection; ServiceM8 also supports recurring jobs and route optimization. The company says contractors worldwide use it to manage more than $50 billion in jobs.

Key features

Managers can monitor staff locations and job progress, while messaging, activity feeds and timesheets help teams stay coordinated and record work. Route optimization and recurring-job support suit businesses managing repeat visits, though the published plan limits make job volume an important part of choosing a tier.

Customer tools include a portal, invoicing and card payments on site or online, plus Tap to Pay on iPhone. Connections to Xero, QuickBooks Online and MYOB help businesses using those accounting systems; Mailchimp, Deputy, n8n, Zapier, add-ons and a REST API extend the integration options. Two-step authentication and a 90-day account activity log add account safeguards. Paid plans include 24/7 chat and email support, with help videos and partners also available.

Pricing

ServiceM8 offers a free plan and a 14-day trial. Paid plans range from $29 to $349 per month; prices are in AUD and include GST. The homepage says there are no hidden fees and no contracts. All paid plans allow unlimited users, so the main published distinctions are monthly job and SMS allowances.

Plan	Price	Published monthly allowance
Free	Free	1 user, 30 jobs, 10c per SMS; 10 AI uses per day
Starter	29.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 50 jobs, 100+ SMS; unlimited AI uses per day
Growing	79.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 150 jobs, 300+ SMS; unlimited AI uses per day
Premium	149.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 500 jobs, 1000+ SMS; unlimited AI uses per day
Premium Plus	349.00 USD per month	Unlimited users, 1500+ jobs, 3000+ SMS; unlimited AI uses per day

The free tier is a low-commitment fit for a solo operator with modest monthly volume, but its single-user cap and 30-job ceiling make it a poor fit for a growing crew. Starter opens team access but only raises the job allowance to 50; Growing or Premium offer more headroom for busier operations. Premium Plus has the largest published allowances and is aimed at very high job volume. Compare the stated plan prices and allowances with the AUD pricing note before committing.

Platforms

Mobile apps cover Android and iOS, and macOS is supported. The separate ServiceM8 Desktop app runs on Mac or PC, giving office users a desktop option alongside field access.

Who it's for

ServiceM8 is best suited to contractors that want one system for job coordination, staff oversight, customer payments and repeat work, especially teams that can make use of unlimited paid-plan users. It is less suited to businesses whose job or messaging volume exceeds a tier's allowance, or to a solo operator who needs more than 30 jobs monthly but wants to stay on the free plan.

Pros and cons

Pros: Paid plans include unlimited users, so businesses can add staff without moving up a tier solely for seats.
Pros: Offline mode, route optimization and recurring jobs address practical demands of field service work.
Pros: On-site, online and iPhone Tap to Pay options pair with invoicing and a customer portal.
Cons: The free plan is limited to one user and 30 jobs per month, which constrains even a small team.
Cons: Job and SMS allowances vary by tier, so higher-volume businesses may need to pay more as workload grows.

Verdict

Choose ServiceM8 if your contracting business needs job and team coordination alongside customer payments, and unlimited users on paid plans matter more than having uncapped monthly job volume. Its free tier offers a useful starting point for one person, but teams and higher-volume operators should weigh the plan allowances against their workload before signing up.
