Overview

Federal and provincial forms and tools cover the core of Canadian corporate tax preparation. More than 3,000 diagnostics and edit checks can help practitioners catch return issues, while transfers of more than 750 GIFI items into 25 forms reduce repetitive entry. That depth is valuable for a practice handling varied or complicated filings; it is harder to justify for occasional, uncomplicated returns.

T2 Data Connection is designed to reduce preparation time by as much as 50% and improve accuracy on multi-corporation returns. The potential benefit is most relevant to firms managing related corporate filings. Tax planning features include a Tax Rates Table and five-year summary, and InfoConnect links to tax research tools.

Key features

Specialized returns: A separately sold module adds forms and calculations for resource companies, credit unions, non-profits and financial institutions. It suits practices serving those sectors, but adds to the purchase decision.
Electronic filing: The Corporation Internet Filing module supports EFILE for T2 and Quebec CO-17 returns, plus NETFILE for Alberta returns. This regional coverage matters for firms filing across those jurisdictions.
Research and guidance: InfoConnect provides links to tax research tools, while the Preparing Your Income Tax Returns guide is sold separately. Firms that need the guide should include it in their cost assessment.
Support and training: Wolters Kluwer offers support and training by phone, webinars, in-class sessions and conferences, giving professional users several ways to get assistance.

Pricing

Corporate Taxprep uses custom pricing; contact a representative for a quote. A free trial is available. The Corporate Taxprep plan has the Specialized Information Module and the online or DVD tax guide sold separately, so the base price does not cover every listed capability or reference material.

Corporate Taxprep Lite offers essential features at a lower cost and is aimed at lower-volume work. Its restrictions require a conversation with a representative, so firms should confirm that it covers their filing needs before choosing it. No seat or return quota is stated for either option.

Platforms

Corporate Taxprep is Windows software deployed on desktop. The maker links to system requirements, but this review cannot establish specific hardware or operating-system specifications; firms should confirm compatibility before purchase.

Who it's for

This is best suited to tax professionals and firms preparing complex T2 returns, working across multiple corporations, or serving specialized industries. Its extensive diagnostics, GIFI transfer capability and regional e-filing support address substantive preparation needs. Lower-volume firms may prefer Lite, while practitioners with only straightforward or occasional filings may not need the full product's breadth.

Pros and cons

Pros

Substantial return checks: More than 3,000 diagnostics and edit checks provide a broad layer of review for Canadian T2 returns.
Less repetitive GIFI work: Transfers cover more than 750 items into 25 forms, a practical advantage on data-heavy returns.
Useful multi-corporation workflow: T2 Data Connection targets time savings and improved accuracy across related corporate returns.
Broad filing reach: The filing module supports T2 and Quebec CO-17 EFILE and Alberta NETFILE.

Cons

Cost is harder to assess upfront: Pricing requires a quote, and the specialized module and tax guide are additional purchases.
Lite restrictions are unclear until consultation: Lower-volume users must speak with a representative to determine whether the reduced-cost option fits their workload.
Windows only: Teams using other platforms cannot run the desktop product on their stated platform.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, compare Corporate Tax Software and Tax Compliance Software.

Tax Series is a paid, trial-available option on web and API, with licensing fees based on scope determined during proof of concept.
TaxCalc offers Linux, macOS and Windows support and a 42.00 GBP per year plan for six individual returns; it may suit readers seeking a published price and individual-return allowance rather than this product's corporate focus.

ProFile T2 has a T2/CO-17 Corporate plan at 1190.00 USD per year, including Québec and one license; compare it if a stated price and license count are priorities.
TaxCycle T2 offers a one-user plan at 1102.00 CAD per once, including corporate returns with AT1 and CO-17; additional users cost $248 each. It may suit firms that prefer a published purchase price and explicit user terms.
CSC Corptax is an enterprise corporate tax option with web access and demo-request pricing.
CCH Axcess Practice is a paid option for Android, iOS and web with quote-based pricing.

Verdict

Choose Corporate Taxprep if your firm prepares complex Canadian T2 returns, especially across multiple corporations or specialized industries, and values extensive diagnostics and filing coverage. Its professional toolkit is the main reason to choose it; the main reason to look elsewhere is the difficulty of judging total cost upfront, compounded by extra charges for the specialized module and guide.
