Overview

Credibled automates reference checks and other candidate verifications for employers and organizations. It is a strong fit for teams that want configurable reference questionnaires, ATS connections, or an API workflow without a monthly subscription. The per-candidate model is straightforward, but Québec’s social-media screening restriction and the absence of current SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications may matter to buyers with specific screening or assurance requirements.

Key features

Candidates submit their references, then Credibled handles outreach and sends reminders every 24 hours for up to 10 days. That can take routine follow-up off a recruiter’s plate; teams that need a different cadence or a longer collection window may find the fixed schedule restrictive.

Employers can tailor questionnaires to an industry, job title, or competency, using text and rating questions. Professional email validation and same-IP flags for candidates and referees give reviewers signals to examine, rather than a definitive fraud finding. Completed references can be exported as PDFs and emailed to employers, which supports a simple handoff when results need to be shared outside the platform.

Questionnaires can also collect information about potential job seekers and clients from referees, with email notifications to requesters. That feature may help staffing agencies identify business opportunities, but is less compelling for employers using checks solely to evaluate candidates.

Credibled integrates with Bullhorn, JobAdder, and Vincere, and its API supports custom hiring workflows, status-change webhooks, and separate sandbox and production keys. The sandbox lets teams explore API workflows without running live checks or incurring charges. Production data is hosted in AWS’s Canada Central region and encrypted at rest and in transit. Credibled says it operates under Canadian privacy law, principally PIPEDA and applicable provincial law, and follows FCRA-consistent practices for US background checks. It is not currently SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certified and is working toward SOC 2.

Pricing

The API sandbox is a free account with documentation and a sandbox key; it is for testing, not real checks. The NGO reference check costs 4.50 CAD per check for eligible non-profits through the NGO Program, a 50% discount on reference checks. The Automated reference check costs 9.00 CAD per candidate, covering all references completed for that candidate, with no subscription, monthly fee, or minimum commitment. The per-candidate charge suits hiring teams with variable volumes; organizations running frequent checks should weigh the cumulative cost against their expected usage.

Every account includes a dedicated representative, same-day replies during business hours, a Help Centre, a monitored support channel, and website live chat. Social media screening is unavailable in Québec, a meaningful limitation for organizations that require that screening there.

Platforms

Credibled is available on the web and through an API. The web option suits teams managing checks directly, while the API supports organizations embedding them into custom workflows.

Who it's for

Staffing agencies, small and mid-sized businesses, regulated employers, non-profits, and startups are among the audiences Credibled identifies. Its configurable questions and ATS integrations make it particularly relevant to teams that need repeatable reference collection, while per-candidate pricing avoids a standing monthly commitment. Organizations that require social-media screening in Québec or current SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Automated outreach and reminders every 24 hours for up to 10 days reduce manual follow-up.
Pros: Custom questionnaires, PDF exports, ATS integrations, and API webhooks support different hiring workflows.
Pros: Per-candidate pricing covers all references for that candidate without a monthly fee or minimum commitment.
Cons: Social media screening is unavailable in Québec.
Cons: Credibled is not currently SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certified, which may not meet some organizations’ assurance requirements.
Cons: The reminder cadence and 10-day follow-up window may not fit teams needing different outreach rules.

Alternatives

Reference Check Software is a broader directory for comparing reference-check products. HiveRef is worth considering for teams wanting mobile apps alongside web and API access; its Pay as you go plan is 4.00 AUD per candidate check, covers up to 10 referees, and its credits never expire. VerifyRef offers a credit-based alternative: 5 credits cost 33.00 USD per once, or 6.60 USD per credit, and the credits never expire.

Xref Engage requires an active Xref Enterprise subscription and adds a cost, so it suits organizations already on that subscription. HR Avatar Automated Reference Checks sells candidate credits, including 1 Candidate for 50.00 USD per once or 10 Candidates for 350.00 USD per once, making it an option for buyers preferring credit bundles. RefNow is a credit-based alternative with bulk discounts and subscriptions; one credit covers up to 10 references from one candidate.

Brindle Reference Checking offers a 90-day free trial with 200 references and 200 CVs and no card required, making it an option for teams looking to evaluate a trial with stated usage allowances. The Reference Checker charges 40.00 GBP per user per month for its Single Users plan, which includes automated requests, email and SMS reminders, and customizable templates and questions. Jointl is a broader workflow alternative with an Ultra plan at 99.00 USD per month or 999.00 USD billed annually.

Verdict

Credibled is a sensible choice for employers and staffing teams that want automated reference follow-up, tailored questionnaires, and ATS or API integration at a per-candidate price. Its no-monthly-fee structure and bounded reminder workflow are the clearest reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if Québec social-media screening or current SOC 2 Type II or ISO 27001 certification is a requirement.
