Overview

Crosshair X focuses on putting a crosshair over games, including titles without a built-in aiming point. You can shape the marker and control where and when it appears, making it useful for players who want a consistent setup across games. It is not a coaching, tracking, or performance suite, so its value depends on how much you care about customizing an on-screen marker.

Key features

Design and community options

The designer supports lines, dots, outlines, color, opacity, animations, and image uploads. PNGs and animated GIFs can be combined with rendered text, emoji, or status indicators. That flexibility suits players who want a distinctive or layered overlay; for someone who only needs a simple static crosshair, much of it may be unnecessary. Steam Workshop offers thousands of community designs to browse, and users can publish their own.

Behavior and placement

Crosshairs can animate in response to firing, including multi-stage and per-button animations. You can choose a monitor, save positions for different games, and show or hide the overlay with shortcuts or mouse states. These controls make it easier to maintain different setups, while adding more options to manage than a basic reticle needs. Crosshairs can also be shared by code or exported as image files.

Display method and game access

Crosshair X uses Xbox Game Bar for exclusive-fullscreen games and a separate transparent overlay for windowed or borderless play. Its maker says the software does not inject code, alter game files, access game memory, simulate input, scan gameplay, or contact game servers. That distinction matters to players concerned about how an overlay interacts with a game, though no overlay can guarantee acceptance under every game’s rules.

Pricing

The Microsoft Store entry is shown at no cost, with a free trial available. The Steam version costs 3.99 USD per once as a one-time purchase and includes every Workshop crosshair. The Epic Games Store base game costs 9.99 USD per once. Steam and Epic require Windows 10 at minimum, with Windows 11 recommended; Steam’s 14-day refund window applies.

The Microsoft Store option is the lowest-cost way to start, but it is a trial rather than a free plan. Steam is the clearest paid choice for buyers who want Workshop designs included. Epic costs more than Steam on the prices shown, so it is harder to justify unless that store is your preference. Crosshair X is paid software, and the free trial should not be mistaken for an ongoing free tier.

Platforms

Crosshair X is available for Windows. The Steam and Epic versions specify Windows 10 minimum and Windows 11 recommended.

Who it's for

It suits PC players who want a tailored crosshair for shooters, battle royales, survival games, or other games, particularly when a built-in marker is missing or does not suit them. Players who want game statistics, coaching, or a wider set of utilities should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: Detailed design controls, reactive animations, image and text layers, and community designs give customization-focused players substantial room to shape an overlay.
Pros: Monitor selection, saved game positions, and shortcut or mouse-state visibility controls support distinct setups across games.
Cons: It is limited to crosshair overlays, so players seeking a broader gaming toolkit will need another product.
Cons: There is no ongoing free plan; the Microsoft Store option is a trial, while Steam and Epic are one-time purchases at different prices.
Cons: The privacy policy says the website collects device and order information, uses Google Analytics, and may use personal information for targeted advertising.

Alternatives

GameGlass is a better fit for players who want a freemium option across mobile, desktop, and web platforms, rather than a Windows crosshair overlay. OP.GG is another freemium alternative for readers seeking a wider gaming platform. WeMod offers a free tier with keyboard hotkeys and two hours of mod usage per day for newly created accounts, making it relevant to players looking for game mods rather than a custom crosshair. Valorant Tracker is a free Windows PC overlay for players focused on Valorant; it is not available for console play. NVIDIA ShadowPlay is a free Windows option for players with a supported GPU and GeForce 551.52 driver or later who want NVIDIA’s app instead. PLITCH provides a free tier with access to trainers and mods, so it is for players seeking those tools rather than crosshair customization. Porofessor is a freemium alternative for readers looking for its game-related features on web or Windows. MetaTFT offers a free website and in-game app, making it an option for readers interested in that format rather than a general crosshair overlay. For more options in this category, see Game Overlay Software.

Verdict

Choose Crosshair X if you play on Windows and want fine control over a crosshair’s design, behavior, and placement across games. Its most persuasive advantage is the combination of deep customization and multiple display controls. Look elsewhere if you want a broader game suite, an ongoing free plan, or support beyond Windows.
