Overview

StudyGlen turns PDFs, text, images, handwritten notes, YouTube links, and Anki decks into study content. Quiz uploads accept PDFs up to 20MB, text up to 20,000 characters, images with OCR, and YouTube URLs through captions. That breadth is useful when materials arrive in different formats, while the caps on document size and text length may constrain larger sources.

Quiz generation supports 41 content languages with localized AI explanations, and the interface supports 13 languages. A no-account trial gives five free quiz questions without a credit card, enough to sample the generation workflow before committing credits.

Key features

Quizzes, flashcards, and Anki

Flashcards include basic and cloze deletion formats, FSRS spaced repetition, and smart, sequential, and shuffle study modes. Anki imports accept .apkg, .colpkg, .txt, .csv, and .tsv files while preserving SM-2 scheduling. That preservation makes StudyGlen a sensible option for people bringing an established Anki routine, although the free allowance of five imports per day can slow a large transfer. Free users also get two question regenerations daily.

Comics, live sessions, and exports

The comic generator creates scripts, characters, dialogue, and scenes in cartoon, anime, watercolor, realistic, or sketch styles. It adds a visual route into study material, but the free plan provides only one lifetime comic. Live quiz competitions offer unlimited hosting, real-time leaderboards, and require no credits, making them the clearest feature for teachers or groups who want a shared quiz rather than individual review.

Quizzes can be exported without limits and at no cost to PDF, Word, CSV, Anki (.apkg), or QTI, with direct import into Canvas and Moodle. That is a practical advantage for moving quiz material into common LMS platforms instead of keeping it locked in one tool.

Mobile use and data handling

The iOS and Android apps support quizzes and flashcards, offline review, and later syncing of ratings when connectivity returns. StudyGlen says it is GDPR compliant and uses HTTPS, encryption, access controls, and secure authentication. Uploaded PDFs, text, and images are removed from active systems after processing, though backups may persist for up to 30 days.

Pricing

Free Forever is free and includes one quiz or flashcard per day, one lifetime comic, and two question regenerations daily, with no credit card required. It is a useful sampler, but daily creation limits make it a poor fit for regular heavy use.

Paid options are one-time packs, not recurring subscriptions, and credits never expire. Mini Pack costs 4.99 USD per once for 10 study credits and five regenerations per day. Since one study credit generates one complete quiz or flashcard deck, it suits occasional use, but includes no comic credit. Starter Pack costs 9.99 USD per once for 30 study credits, one comic credit, and five regenerations per day; Plus Pack costs 24.99 USD per once for 100 study credits, three comic credits, and five regenerations per day. Pro Pack costs 49.99 USD per once for 300 study credits, five comic credits, and five regenerations per day. The larger packs suit people expecting sustained use or regular comic creation; each increases the upfront spend in exchange for more credits, with no expiry pressure.

Platforms

StudyGlen is available on web, iOS, and Android. The mobile apps add offline review for quizzes and flashcards, while exports extend quiz use to PDF, Word, CSV, Anki, Canvas, and Moodle workflows.

Who it's for

Students preparing for exams, medical or nursing learners, and language learners can use its mixed sources and study modes to generate practice from existing material. Teachers can draw on live competitions and LMS-ready quiz exports; parents are also among the audiences StudyGlen serves. It is less suitable for someone who needs a high daily volume of free quiz or card creation, or who wants a recurring subscription rather than buying credits up front.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad source support, including images, video captions, and Anki decks, helps learners reuse material across formats.
Pros: Anki imports preserve SM-2 scheduling, and quiz exports cover common file formats and LMS platforms.
Pros: Unlimited live-session hosting without credits gives educators a useful group-study option.
Cons: The free plan allows only one quiz or flashcard daily and one lifetime comic, so regular use likely requires a paid pack.
Cons: Anki imports are capped at five per day for free users, which can make bulk migration slow.
Cons: The most substantial packs require a higher one-time outlay, even though their credits do not expire.

Alternatives

Jambo suits learners seeking a free card-and-deck allowance of 2,000 cards and 15 decks, plus five AI generations per day.
Brainscape is worth considering for pre-loaded flashcards or unlimited AI card creation through its Pro plan.
Cogni is an alternative for learners who want spaced repetition, notes, sync, and Anki import on a free plan with a daily review limit.
Gizmo is another option for people considering a yearly subscription.
Mindomax is a macOS-only option with unlimited cards in its free plan.
StudySense offers a free plan with five decks, five AI generations per month, and limited tutor and document-chat sessions.
Knowt is an alternative for file creation, live collaboration, and access to a large resource library.

Verdict

Choose StudyGlen if you want to turn varied source material into several kinds of study content, particularly if Anki scheduling preservation, flexible exports, or live quiz hosting matters. Its non-expiring one-time packs avoid subscription renewal, but learners who need frequent free generation or a deeper free comic allowance should look elsewhere.
