Overview

The platform files GB import and export declarations directly with HMRC’s Customs Declaration Service, and also supports GB safety and security filings, EU ICS2 entry summary declarations and NCTS6 T1/T2 transit movements. GVMS management and integrations with Community System Providers MCP, CNS and CCS-UK extend its reach across customs and port workflows. That breadth is valuable to businesses coordinating multiple filing routes; pay-per-declaration charges, however, mean costs rise with volume rather than staying fixed.

It runs as a cloud platform with web and API access. The company says documents handled by its IDP are encrypted, and its privacy policy is intended to comply with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, PECR and, where applicable, EU GDPR.

Key features

Guided filing and validation

Shipment-specific wizards adjust to the requirements of each movement, while real-time validation flags inconsistencies before submission. The guided process can help new filers navigate different declaration types, and the checks add a useful safeguard for experienced teams. They do not replace human review of the filing.

Document processing and integrations

OCR and AI extract information from invoices, packing lists and transport documents, then draft supported declarations for a person to review. IDP has no per-document charge and is available across declaration types, which can make it useful for document-heavy workflows. API connections to TMS, ERP and freight systems can automate intake and drafting, although the value depends on a business’s ability to connect those systems.

Movement and port workflows

GVMS is managed on the same platform as declarations, and no port badge is needed for RoRo/GVMS movements. Inventory-linked import ports may still charge a separate CSP fee for badges. NCTS6 departures require the customer’s own transit guarantee; the provider does not supply or broker one, so this is not a complete transit solution for businesses without guarantee arrangements.

Support

Personalized onboarding, ongoing training and help with complex customs scenarios are offered. That support can matter to first-time users and teams handling less routine movements, while high-volume operators may also value it when setting up automated workflows.

Pricing

The platform has no free plan, but several transaction types carry no monthly fee or minimum volume. Pay-as-you-go has no monthly fee, though onboarding charges may apply. Subscription customers need at least six months’ notice to cancel, a material commitment for businesses whose filing needs may change quickly.

Customs Intelligent Document Processing (IDP): Free, billed FREE per processed document. There is no per-document fee, and it is available on every declaration type. This makes document drafting a useful included capability rather than an extra usage charge.
Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS): Free, billed FREE per GMR when you file with us; a GVMS-only declaration is £1. There is no monthly fee or minimum volume, suiting occasional as well as regular GMR users.
French Obligatory Logistics Envelope (ELO): Free, billed FREE per ELO envelope when you file with us; an ELO-only declaration is £1. With no monthly fee or minimum volume, it can cover occasional envelope needs without a subscription.
EU Import Control System 2 (ICS2): £4.00 per once, billed £ 4 per declaration. No monthly fee or minimum volume makes this suitable for businesses with intermittent ICS2 filings.
GB Safety and Security (S&S GB): £10.00 per once, billed £ 10 per declaration, with no monthly fee or minimum volume.
New Computerised Transit System (NCTS6): £15.00 per once, billed £ 15 per departure declaration. Arrival for the provider’s departures is free; an arrival-only declaration is £8. There is no monthly fee or minimum volume, but the customer’s own guarantee is required.
GB Customs Declaration Service (CDS): £25.00 per once, billed £ 25 per declaration, with no monthly fee or minimum volume.

These per-filing prices suit variable or modest workloads that do not justify a recurring subscription, but regular filers should account for the accumulating declaration charges. The £1 entry price applies to specific GVMS-only or ELO-only filings, not to standard CDS declarations.

Platforms

Customs Declarations UK is available on the web and through an API. That combination suits teams working directly in a browser as well as businesses connecting customs workflows to their operational systems.

Who it's for

Freight forwarders, hauliers, customs brokers, importers and exporters can use the platform, including first-time users and high-volume filers. Its broad declaration coverage, guided steps and onboarding support serve less experienced teams; API connectivity and CSP integrations are more relevant to businesses seeking connected or automated workflows. It is less suitable for NCTS6 operators who need a provider to supply a transit guarantee.

Pros and cons

Pro: Broad coverage spans GB CDS imports and exports, GB ENS, EU ICS2 and NCTS6, reducing the need to split those filing types across separate systems.
Pro: IDP document processing has no per-document fee, while API connections can automate intake and drafting from TMS, ERP and freight software.
Pro: No monthly fee or minimum volume applies to the listed transaction plans, which helps businesses with irregular filing demand.
Con: Per-declaration charges can add up for regular filers, and the standard GB CDS declaration costs £25.00 per once.
Con: NCTS6 requires the customer’s own transit guarantee, excluding businesses that need the platform to arrange one.
Con: Subscriptions require at least six months’ cancellation notice, and onboarding charges may apply to pay-as-you-go customers.

iCustoms is a paid web-and-API alternative with a free trial, worth considering if you want to evaluate another connected platform before committing.
XEMI offers custom pricing based on business needs and a free trial; consider it if a tailored commercial arrangement is preferable to Customs Declarations UK’s per-filing fees.
CustomsVerse has a free plan for product classification, including bulk classification, and supports web and API. It is a better starting point if classification is the priority and a free entry point matters.
DutyDeclared has a free plan and trial, plus a £250/month Starter plan with document extraction, auto-fill, validation, risk checks and manual submission support. Choose it if those bundled checks and support suit your workflow better than transaction pricing.
SmartBorder ABI/ACE offers a pay-per-use plan with a one-time licensing fee, no long-term contracts and zero user licensing fees. It may suit teams prioritizing those licensing terms.
Customs Window offers tailored monthly pricing, unlimited users and lower filing costs at higher volume. It is worth considering for organizations that prefer a monthly arrangement with volume-based filing costs.
MIC-CUST is a paid web-based alternative.
Candata ACE/ABI is a paid alternative for macOS and Windows.

Verdict

Customs Declarations UK is a good choice for freight and trade businesses that need several GB, EU and transit filing routes, document drafting, and the option to automate through APIs without a monthly fee on the listed transaction plans. Its main limitation is decisive for transit operators: NCTS6 depends on the customer’s own guarantee. Choose it when that requirement is covered and transaction pricing fits your volume; look elsewhere if you need a provider-arranged guarantee or a more predictable subscription cost.
