Overview

DataLion brings survey building, data analysis, and interactive dashboards into one platform for research teams and agencies. It is a strong fit when a team needs more than charts from survey results; the free plan’s one-user, one-project, 100-case ceiling makes it better for a small evaluation than ongoing team work.

Questionnaires can use skip logic, and publishing a survey automatically produces a dataset, codebook, and live dashboard. Teams can also import SPSS, Excel, CSV, database, and API data, schedule imports, and combine sources within a project. That range helps when research draws on existing business data as well as new responses.

DataLion is a Munich-based company founded in 2014. For broader category choices, see Sales Analytics Software and Market Research Software.

Key features

Surveys and analysis

Alongside questionnaire creation and distribution, DataLion offers crosstabs, significance testing, weighting, regression, ANOVA, MaxDiff, price sensitivity analysis, and sentiment and topic analysis. This is a substantial toolkit for market and consumer research, but likely more than a buyer needs for simple survey collection and basic summaries. The Free plan excludes crosstabs and AI analysis, with full analysis and AI analysis starting at Solo.

Dashboards and outputs

Drag-and-drop dashboard creation, interactive filters, drill-downs, and more than 50 chart types give teams several ways to present findings. Editable PowerPoint and Google Slides exports, along with Excel, PDF, image, and CSV formats, support handoff into reporting workflows. The Free plan does not include exports, so users who need to distribute polished results should budget for a paid tier.

Connections and access

DataLion supports a Power BI OData feed and AI access through MCP, as well as a REST API on Solo. Roles and granular access profiles help manage who can see or work with project data; optional two-factor authentication and SSO are available. SSO is included in Enterprise.

Pricing

DataLion has a free tier, a 14-day trial, and paid plans from €100/mo (annual). Paid prices below are monthly amounts billed annually and exclude VAT.

Plan	Price and fit	What it includes
Free	Free, forever; for a solo user assessing the workflow.	One user, one project, 100 cases, surveys, AI builder, 75 templates, Excel/CSV/SPSS import, and live dashboards. Excludes exports, crosstabs, and AI analysis.
Solo	€100.00 per month, billed annually; for one administrator needing full analysis.	One administrator licence, unlimited projects, full analysis, exports, AI analysis, Theme Studio, REST API, and Claude/MCP.
Starter	€350.00 per month, billed annually; for sharing dashboards with a small audience.	One administrator and five viewers; everything in Solo, live dashboard sharing, and the option to add viewers anytime.
Pro	€525.00 per month, billed annually; for teams that need editing and more viewer seats.	One admin, one editor, and ten viewers; everything in Starter, white label, Conjoint (CBC), BI views, and priority support.
Enterprise	From €1,400.00 per month; minimum fee, annual contract, licence mix, excluding VAT; custom pricing for organizations needing tailored deployment.	Tailored licences, dedicated hosting in Germany or self-hosting, SSO, SLA and personal contact, onboarding, training, and data consultancy.

Free is tightly capped and omits key analysis and export functions; Solo removes the project cap but remains a single-administrator licence. Starter adds viewers, while Pro adds an editor, white labeling, and priority support. All plans include German-language email and help-center support; priority support is reserved for Pro and Enterprise. Enterprise adds the most deployment and service flexibility, but its minimum fee and annual contract make it a poor fit for buyers who only need a small survey tool.

Platforms

DataLion runs on the web and offers API access, with self-hosted deployment also available. Enterprise customers can choose a Docker-based on-premise deployment or a dedicated hosted instance. The company says its hosting is in Germany in ISO 27001-certified data centers; that certification covers the data centers and hosting, not DataLion itself. An Art. 28 GDPR Data Processing Agreement is included.

Who it's for

Market research institutes, in-house research and consumer-insights teams, agencies, HR teams, and publishers are among DataLion’s intended audiences. Its combination of survey workflows, advanced research analysis, data imports, and report-ready dashboards is most useful where teams need to turn varied data into shareable findings. It is less compelling for sales teams seeking only pipeline reporting or forecasting: those capabilities are indicated, but the described product centers on surveys, analysis, and dashboards.

Pros and cons

Pros: Survey publishing generates a dataset, codebook, and live dashboard, reducing handoffs between collection and reporting.
Pros: Imports, scheduled feeds, and multi-source projects accommodate research built from surveys and existing data.
Pros: Research-specific methods and numerous chart and export options support analysis through presentation.
Pros: Hosted and self-hosted deployment options, granular access controls, and an included processing agreement suit organizations with privacy and deployment requirements.
Cons: Free is limited to one user, one project, and 100 cases, and excludes exports, crosstabs, and AI analysis.
Cons: The first paid tier is a single-administrator licence, so collaboration requires the more expensive Starter or Pro plan.
Cons: Enterprise carries a €1,400 monthly minimum and annual contract, which may be excessive for smaller deployments.

Alternatives

For sales analytics alternatives, Weflow has a free trial but no free plan, while Wizard AI Forecasts offers a free tier with monthly usage caps. MoData has a free plan for sales teams under five, one integration, and ten pre-built dashboards, making it a more bounded option for small sales teams. OptiKratos Email is an email-focused alternative with a free tier. RevenueGrid is a paid option with a free trial, while Fullcast Revenue Intelligence offers a demo-based purchase path with a free trial.

Goals.com is another paid alternative with a free trial and annual or monthly billing options. Averisys Sales Performance Intelligence Platform offers a free tier and prices subscriptions per user per month on annual invoicing.

Verdict

Choose DataLion if research is central to your work and you want survey creation, serious analysis, and dashboard delivery in one system, with hosted or self-hosted deployment choices. Its free tier can help a solo user explore the workflow, but the tight caps and missing exports and analysis features mean most teams should compare paid-plan costs before committing. Look elsewhere if you need only lightweight surveys or a sales-focused analytics product.
