Overview

MSP360 Backup combines computer and server backup with file- and image-based coverage and multiple restore modes. Ransomware protection is included, and recovery can extend to bare-metal restore with bootable media. There is no mobile backup, so users protecting phones or tablets will need another solution.

The plans are divided by platform and workload rather than offering one inexpensive tier for everything. That makes it easier to target a specific backup need, but buyers should confirm that the plan covers their operating system and applications before paying.

Key features

File and image backup: The free plan covers personal workstation backup with both file and image-based backup. That is a useful no-cost starting point for an individual, though it does not replace the paid Windows desktop, server, or SQL plans.
System recovery: Bare-metal restore and bootable recovery media support rebuilding a machine after a serious failure. Incremental images can make ongoing image backups more manageable, making these options most relevant to users who need whole-system recovery rather than just file copies.
Image protection and destination: Image encryption and cloud image destinations provide options for protecting and storing image backups away from the computer. Ransomware protection is also included; its specific operation is not described.
Workload-specific plans: Separate plans cover Windows desktop, Windows Server, SQL Server, and a broader Ultimate workload. This specificity is useful for buyers with a defined workload, but makes plan selection important.

Pricing

MSP360 Backup uses a freemium model, with a free plan, paid plans from $19.99/yr, and a 15-day trial. Paid prices below are annual subscriptions; several plans exclude VAT, so the displayed price may not be the total payable.

Free — 0.00 USD per free: Includes personal workstation backup, file and image-based backup, and forum-based support. It suits individual users seeking basic workstation protection without a subscription; forum-based support is the stated support channel.
Pro (macOS/Linux) — 19.99 USD per year: An annually billed plan for locally managed macOS/Linux backup. It is the lowest-priced paid option, but is limited to those platforms and does not offer the Windows desktop or server coverage of other tiers.
Desktop — 29.99 USD per year: Annually billed Windows desktop backup, with VAT excluded. This is the targeted paid choice for Windows desktop users who need more than the free personal workstation plan.
Server — 109.99 USD per year: Annually billed Windows Server backup, excluding VAT. It is for server workloads rather than ordinary Windows desktop coverage.
SQL — 124.99 USD per year: Annually billed SQL Server backup, excluding VAT. Choose it when SQL Server is the workload to protect rather than paying for a desktop plan that does not cover it.
Ultimate — 179.99 USD per year: Annually billed file, image, SQL Server, and Exchange backup, excluding VAT, with an unlimited cloud storage allowance. It is the broadest stated plan and the clearest fit for buyers needing those workloads and unlimited cloud storage; it costs more than the focused options.

The annual prices are stated, but renewal terms, seat counts, and quotas are not. Compare the workload included in each tier and account for VAT where excluded before choosing.

Platforms

MSP360 Backup supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. The plan lineup distinguishes macOS/Linux backup from Windows desktop and Windows Server backup, while SQL coverage has its own plan. Mobile backup is not supported.

Who it's for

It suits individuals who want free file and image backup for a personal workstation, macOS/Linux users seeking a locally managed annual plan, and organizations with Windows desktop, Windows Server, or SQL Server backup needs. Ultimate is the stronger fit when file, image, SQL Server, and Exchange coverage plus unlimited cloud storage allowance matter. It is not the right single solution for mobile-device backup.

Pros and cons

Pros: A free plan includes both file and image-based personal workstation backup, giving individuals a way to start without an annual fee.
Pros: Bare-metal restore, bootable recovery media, incremental images, image encryption, and cloud image destinations support several stages of image backup and recovery.
Pros: Dedicated Windows Server and SQL plans avoid forcing those workloads into a desktop tier.
Cons: Plans divide coverage by platform and workload, so buyers must select carefully rather than assume one lower-priced plan covers all needs.
Cons: VAT is excluded from the Desktop, Server, SQL, and Ultimate prices, increasing the final cost for affected buyers.
Cons: No mobile backup means it cannot cover a phone or tablet backup requirement.

Verdict

Choose MSP360 Backup if you need computer or server backup with recovery options ranging from image protection to bare-metal restore, and can select a plan matched to your platform and workload. The free workstation tier is a practical entry point, while paid tiers add focused desktop, server, SQL, and broader coverage. Look elsewhere if you need mobile backup or want one low-cost plan without workload-specific tradeoffs.
