Overview

Flycast emulates Sega Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2, and Atomiswave. Its Android listing also names System SP arcade games and says it runs most Dreamcast titles, including Windows CE games. That range suits players who want one emulator for several Sega systems; the qualification “most” means individual titles may not work.

Game files are not included and must be owned by the user. A Dreamcast BIOS is not required, removing one setup dependency. Controller support and online multiplayer are supported, alongside modem and LAN adapter emulation and RetroAchievements.

Key features

Graphics and save states

The Android listing describes high-definition and widescreen rendering, OpenGL and Vulkan support, and custom high-definition texture packs. These options give players room to adjust presentation, though they do not promise identical results across games or devices. Android users also get 10 save-state slots, useful for keeping several points to return to without relying solely on in-game saves.

Online play and builds

RetroAchievements and modem and LAN adapter emulation will appeal to players interested in online-era features. The Android update notes also name Power Smash online support. Flycast offers regular master builds, experimental nightly development builds, and versioned stable releases. The project describes master as relatively stable and warns that other branches may be unstable, crash, or fail to run, so experimental builds are a poor default for anyone prioritizing reliability.

Pricing

Flycast is free: its plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes no ads. There are no paid tiers to weigh against one another, but users must own and provide their game files. That makes the price straightforward while leaving game acquisition and setup to the user.

Platforms

Flycast supports Android, Linux, macOS, and Windows. The README says Xbox One and Series builds can be installed using Xbox Device Portal, while iOS support has been dropped. The project directs users to its Discord server for discussion. Google Play's developer-provided privacy disclosure says no data is collected or shared with third parties and that data is encrypted in transit. The repository identifies the license as GPL-2.0.

Who it's for

Flycast is a good fit for players with games across Dreamcast, Naomi, Naomi 2, or Atomiswave who want one free emulator and value options such as widescreen rendering, save states, and online features. It is less suited to someone who expects games to be included, wants iOS support, or needs every development branch to be dependable.
