Overview

The route planner estimates fuel costs and helps find places within a chosen distance of a route, while Autopilot offers recommendations informed by other travelers that users can accept or decline. That combination suits trips where discovering stops is part of the plan, rather than journeys that need only a direct route.

Roadtrippers says its database covers millions of places in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. The geographic reach is useful across those destinations, but RV GPS features are available only in the United States. The company was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Cincinnati and Chicago.

Key features

Invited friends can collaborate on a trip in real time. Reservation import, shared itineraries, and offline access support planning and travel, while saved plans sync with the iOS and Android apps. The web is the primary platform, with mobile apps for both major phone platforms.

Campground search covers more than 50,000 sites, with filters, reviews, and booking for thousands. That makes Roadtrippers particularly relevant to travelers who want campground discovery alongside route planning, though booking is not described as covering every campground in the search.

RV routing factors in vehicle dimensions, weight, and propane status to steer around unsuitable roads and hazards. Apple CarPlay voice directions are supported on the RV GPS page. These are meaningful tools for RV trips, but their United States-only availability rules them out for RV navigation elsewhere.

Roadpass Digital says it uses safeguards against unauthorized access and contractually limits service providers to specified processing purposes. Collected data may include identity, contact, payment, technical, location, profile, and usage data. The support center offers guides, FAQs, troubleshooting articles, and a contact request option.

Pricing

Roadtrippers is freemium, with a free plan and paid monthly tiers. The free plan is free (billed $0/yr) and allows 1 saved trip with 3 stops per trip. That is enough for a short or occasional itinerary, but the small caps will constrain travelers managing several trips or building detailed routes.

Basic costs 11.99 USD per month (billed $11.99/mo) and allows 3 saved trips with 20 stops per trip. Pro costs 16.99 USD per month (billed $16.99/mo) and raises that to 5 trips and 50 stops. Premium costs 19.99 USD per month (billed $19.99/mo) and includes unlimited saved trips with 150 stops per trip. Basic is the modest step up for a few itineraries; Pro and Premium provide more room for frequent or intricate planning, though Premium still limits stops on each trip.

Eligible users who have not previously used a trial may receive a one-time 7-day trial with an annual plan. Monthly subscriptions have no trial and are billed immediately, so the trial does not reduce the upfront commitment for month-to-month buyers.

Platforms

Roadtrippers is available on web, iOS, and Android. The mobile apps sync saved plans, and offline access is supported. RV GPS has a narrower footprint: it is limited to the United States.

Who it's for

Choose Roadtrippers if discovering stops along a route, locating campgrounds, or collaborating on an itinerary matters as much as mapping the drive. It is less suitable for travelers who need many saved trips or high stop counts at no cost, or who need RV GPS outside the United States.

Pros and cons

Pros: Route-aware place discovery and optional Autopilot recommendations help turn route planning into itinerary building.
Pros: Real-time collaboration, reservation import, shared itineraries, and offline access support group and on-the-road use.
Pros: Campground search combines filters and reviews with booking for thousands of sites.
Cons: The free plan is limited to one trip and three stops, making it restrictive for anything beyond a small itinerary.
Cons: Paid tiers charge monthly and still impose per-trip stop caps, including Premium's 150-stop limit.
Cons: RV GPS is restricted to the United States, limiting its value for international RV travel.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison, browse Travel Itinerary Apps. TripIt is an option for travelers organizing documents, with a free tier allowing three uploads per trip and Pro at 49.00 USD per year allowing 25. TravelerBuddy is another freemium travel-planning option. TripCraftr offers a free plan with unlimited trips and invitees, making it worth considering when those allowances matter more than Roadtrippers' route-centered planning. TripMapper has a free trip plan and a Trip+ tier at 3.99 GBP per month. Traveley is an Android alternative with a free allowance of two itineraries. Pappus Travel Planner is free software under GPL-3.0-or-later. Jettova offers free consumer trip planning, with bookings paid to partners at their listed prices. Lambus has a free basic platform and a PRO for One Year option at 24.99 EUR per year.

Verdict

Roadtrippers is a strong choice for travelers who want route planning, stop discovery, campground search, and group collaboration in one service. Its main advantage is making places along the way part of the itinerary; look elsewhere if the free trip and stop caps are too tight, or if you need RV GPS beyond the United States.
