Overview

HostTracker monitors websites, servers and APIs from outside a customer’s network. It suits agencies, hosting resellers and webmasters responsible for multiple domains. Its mix of uptime, performance and security checks makes it a capable option for varied monitoring needs.

Key features

Fourteen monitor types cover HTTPS uptime, ping, TCP ports, APIs, browser transactions, page speed, database queries and SNMP, as well as domain and SSL expiry and Google Web Risk flags. This breadth can bring routine availability checks and deeper service monitoring together; a site that needs only a basic uptime check may not benefit from the extra scope.

Checks run through more than 300 worldwide checkpoints on around 460 distributed agent machines. HostTracker rechecks failures from other locations, and users can set how many confirmations are required before a monitor is declared down. That helps filter false alarms, though teams should balance confirmation thresholds against the need for prompt alerts.

Fifteen alert channels include email, SMS, voice calls, webhooks, Slack, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty, Telegram, Discord and web push. Every plan includes public status pages with incidents, maintenance windows, email subscribers and an embeddable uptime badge, giving even small users a way to communicate service status.

Developer access includes a REST API with 182 operations, SDKs for JavaScript, Python, .NET and Go, a command-line tool, Terraform provider and MCP server. That is useful for teams integrating monitoring into development and operations workflows, though SMS and API access during the trial are subject to fair-use limits.

Security checks can track SSL certificate expiry and trust-chain issues, domain expiry, DNS blacklist listings, and malware or phishing flags through Google Web Risk. This broadens HostTracker beyond outage detection for operators who also need visibility into common domain and certificate problems.

Pricing

The permanent Free plan costs 0.00 USD per month, billed $0/month, and allows 2 monitors, 2 contacts and checks every 30 minutes. It is suitable for a couple of low-priority sites, but the small monitor allowance and slow interval make it a poor fit for active multi-site operations.

The 30-Days Free Trial is free, billed $0/month, and includes 100 monitors, 10 contacts and checks every 1 minute, with no credit card required. The 30-day window offers a substantially fuller evaluation than the permanent tier; fair-use limits apply to SMS and API access.

Personal costs 5.00 USD per month, billed $5/month, for 5 monitors, 5 contacts and checks every 10 minutes. It is the entry paid plan for a small portfolio, though the low monitor count and slower cadence limit its usefulness for teams watching several services closely.

Solo costs 9.00 USD per month, billed $9/month, for 1 monitor, 10 contacts and checks every 1 minute. Its fast checks and larger contact allowance suit one critical endpoint with several people receiving alerts, but the single-monitor cap is restrictive for most multi-domain users.

Enterprise500 costs 149.00 USD per month, billed $149/month, and includes 500 monitors, 500 contacts and checks every 1 minute. Enterprise1000 costs 249.00 USD per month, billed $249/month, and includes 1,000 monitors, 1,000 contacts and checks every 30 seconds. These plans fit larger monitoring estates that need high quotas and frequent checks; the 1000-monitor plan doubles capacity and checks twice as often, at a higher monthly price. No other paid plan limits or billing terms are stated.

Platforms

HostTracker is available on the web and through an API. Its monitoring is external, and its developer tooling includes SDKs, a command-line tool, Terraform provider and MCP server.

Who it's for

HostTracker is aimed at web agencies, hosting resellers and webmasters handling multiple domains. Its diverse monitor types, alert routing and status pages are especially relevant when one team must watch customer-facing sites and services and communicate incidents. Solo operators with just one critical endpoint may find the Solo plan’s 1-monitor cap workable, while teams needing wider coverage should compare the quotas and check intervals carefully.

Pros and cons

Broad monitoring coverage: Fourteen types include availability, API, browser, performance, database, network and security checks, supporting varied workloads in one service.
Verification before alerting: Cross-location rechecks and configurable confirmation counts can reduce false alarms, with the tradeoff that extra confirmations can delay a down notification.
Status pages on every plan: Incidents, maintenance windows, email subscribers and an uptime badge are included even on Free.
Restrictive entry quotas: Free covers just 2 monitors with 30-minute checks; Personal has 5 monitors at 10-minute intervals, so neither is suited to broad, frequent monitoring.
Uneven Solo allocation: One monitor paired with 10 contacts may help distribute alerts for a single endpoint, but leaves no room to watch additional services.

Cronitor has a free Hacker plan with 5 monitors, email and Slack alerts, one status page and a fastest check frequency of 5 minutes; it may fit users whose needs align with those caps.
Downdetector offers a free option with up to 5 favorites and outage notifications through the Speedtest app.
GTmetrix has a free option and a paid Lite plan; it is a separate alternative to consider for page performance monitoring.
Treo has a free plan with 5 sites and 50 CrUX pages, without Lighthouse; it may suit users whose needs match those limits.

Pinger Man is another freemium alternative to consider.

Verdict

HostTracker is a strong fit for agencies, hosting resellers and webmasters who need varied external checks, configurable failure confirmation, and customer-facing status pages in one service. Its chief advantage is the breadth of monitoring and alert options across plans. Look elsewhere if you need more than a handful of monitors at the lower price points or want faster checks without stepping up to higher quotas.
