Overview

Describely audits catalogs, fills missing product details using manufacturer or supplier information, generates listing content and publishes it across channels. This joined-up workflow is useful when catalog cleanup and copy production are connected jobs. It is less compelling for someone looking for a general-purpose writing tool rather than a product-listing workflow.

It generates descriptions, titles, bullet points and tags, and supports 18 languages. Custom rulesets apply brand tone, style and content guidelines. AI image enhancements extend the workflow to product visuals, while ShopAssist adds round-the-clock AI chat for customer support and shopping assistance. These broaden its reach, but catalog content remains the central use case.

Key features

Bulk generation and enrichment: Upload a catalog to generate thousands of descriptions and fill gaps in product records. This can reduce repetitive work for large catalogs, but enrichment draws on manufacturer or supplier information and still leaves teams responsible for checking product accuracy.
Brand controls: Custom rulesets can apply tone, style and content guidelines across generated content, helping teams maintain consistency across listings.
Commerce connections: Describely connects with Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace and Akeneo, as well as CSV and Excel files. That range suits retailers using those systems; it does not establish a connection to other platforms.
Import requirements: CSV and workbook files must be under 100 MB and contain a Title column. Teams with larger files or differently structured catalogs need to prepare them before importing.
Security and support: Data is stored on AWS and encrypted at rest and in transit. Describely says customer data is not used to train its AI module, and offers access revocation and data-removal requests. Kickoff calls and email support are available.

Pricing

Describely uses a freemium model, with a five-product free version and paid pricing from $0.75 per month. The free trial includes unlimited product import, bulk generation for five products, enrichment for five products, unlimited connectors and integrations, and unlimited users and team invites. That makes it possible to assess the workflow with a small sample, but the five-product generation and enrichment caps are too low to demonstrate full catalog-scale production.

Free version — free: Covers five products. It is a starting point for a small evaluation, not a workable allowance for a substantial catalog.
Pay as you go — 0.75 USD per month: Billed per product for up to 500 products. This is the clearest fit for a smaller catalog that needs paid capacity without moving to a high-volume plan; the per-product billing makes the catalog size central to the cost.
High volume — custom pricing: For 500+ SKUs. This is aimed at larger catalogs, but requires a custom quote rather than offering a stated price.

API usage costs $0.20 per 1,000 tokens; typical product generations consume 1,000–3,000 tokens. Teams using the API should account for that usage-based cost alongside plan pricing.

Platforms

Describely is available on the web and through an API. The web workflow supports catalog imports and commerce connections; the API is an option for teams that need programmatic access, with token-based usage pricing.

Who it's for

Describely is best suited to retailers and catalog teams that manage enough product records for bulk generation, enrichment and reusable brand rules to save effort. Its integrations make it a natural candidate for sellers using Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix, Squarespace or Akeneo. A small seller with only a handful of listings may find the broader catalog workflow unnecessary, while teams with import files over 100 MB or no Title column face extra preparation.

Pros and cons

Pros
- Combines catalog auditing, enrichment, generation and publishing, which can reduce handoffs between product-data cleanup and listing creation.
- Bulk generation, custom brand rules and 18-language support address consistency and scale across product listings.
- The five-product free version and trial provide a route to evaluate core generation and enrichment before scaling up.
Cons
- The free version caps coverage at five products, limiting its usefulness for ongoing catalog work.
- Imports must be under 100 MB and include a Title column, which may require catalog preparation.
- High-volume pricing is custom, and API use adds token-based charges, so larger deployments need to account for costs beyond the entry price.

Alternatives

If the priority is article-focused SEO work rather than catalog listings, Frase is an alternative, with a Starter plan at 39.00 USD per month billed yearly and one seat and one site. For content analysis and AI credits, NEURONwriter offers a Bronze plan at 23.00 USD per month with two projects or folders, 25 content writer analyses and 15,000 AI credits.

Kua.ai is another freemium option. Readers comparing broader AI writing tools can also consider Jounce, Writecream, Rytr, SwiftCopy or Regie.ai; their available plan details do not establish a direct replacement for Describely’s catalog workflow.

Verdict

Choose Describely if you run a product catalog and want enrichment, brand-controlled bulk listing content and channel publishing in one tool. Its strongest reason to buy is the catalog-specific workflow; look elsewhere if you need general-purpose writing, have only a few products, or require high-volume costs to be predictable before requesting a quote.
