Overview

Freedom is a distraction blocker for people who want to restrict apps, websites, or internet access across their devices. It suits users who need scheduled, hard-to-abandon focus sessions; those relying on website exceptions should check which devices support them. Its free plan handles basic blocking, while scheduling and Locked Mode require a paid plan.

Freedom says it does not track browsing, app usage, or personal activity, and offers human in-app support across platforms. Premium also includes focus sounds, from ambient settings such as cafés and nature to exclusive Brain.fm tracks.

Key features

Blocking across devices

Freedom can block selected apps or websites, or the entire internet. Sessions and focus schedules sync across supported devices, including Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, and Chromebook. That makes it a practical choice for people who switch between devices during the day, though the platform differences matter: Chromebook does not support app blocking or Website Exceptions, and iOS and Android do not support Website Exceptions.

Schedules and Locked Mode

Paid plans can start sessions automatically on advance or recurring schedules. Locked Mode prevents ending a session early, which may help users who tend to cancel restrictions when distractions arise. It is less suitable for anyone who needs frequent flexibility during a block.

Exceptions, audio, and support

On Mac and Windows, Website Exceptions let users allow chosen sites while blocking everything else. This is useful when work requires access to a short list of websites, but mobile users cannot rely on that control. Focus sounds add an audio option for a session, and Premium Perks offer discounts and offers from partner brands focused on productivity, wellness, and intentional living.

Pricing

Freedom is freemium, with a 7-day trial and paid plans from $3.33/mo (annual). Premium is intended for people seeking fewer interruptions and more control over time for work, study, or life.

Free: 0.00 USD per free. Includes limited app, website, or internet blocking, multi-device sync, custom blocklists, and Website Exceptions on Mac and Windows only. It is a useful way to try core blocking, but does not include scheduling, Locked Mode, or unlimited sessions.
Premium (yearly): 3.33 USD per year, billed Yearly - Save 40%. Adds scheduling, recurring and advance sessions, Locked Mode, unlimited sessions, and Premium Perks to everything in Free. Best for regular users willing to pay annually for an automated routine.
Premium (monthly): 8.99 USD per month, billed Monthly. Includes the same features as yearly Premium, with a monthly billing term for users who prefer not to commit annually.
Forever: 99.50 USD per once, billed One payment, yours forever; no subscription or recurring charges. Includes everything in Free plus scheduling, recurring and advance sessions, Locked Mode, unlimited sessions, and Premium Perks. It suits people who prefer a single payment over recurring billing.

Platforms

Freedom is available on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows, with cross-device sessions also syncing across supported devices including Chromebook. Feature support is not uniform: Chromebook lacks app blocking and Website Exceptions, while iOS and Android lack Website Exceptions. Users whose workflow depends on either capability should choose a supported desktop platform for that part of their setup.

Who it's for

Freedom is a strong fit for students, professionals, and other users who want app or site restrictions to follow them across devices, especially when scheduled sessions and Locked Mode can help establish a routine. The free plan fits occasional blocking without automated schedules. It is a weaker fit for users who need website exceptions on mobile or app blocking on Chromebook.

Pros and cons

Pros: Sessions and schedules sync across supported devices, useful for people moving between phone and computer.
Pros: Advance and recurring schedules plus Locked Mode support a hands-off routine that is harder to abandon mid-session.
Pros: The free plan includes multi-device sync, custom blocklists, and core blocking, so users can start without paying.
Cons: Scheduling, Locked Mode, and unlimited sessions are paid-plan features, limiting the free plan for users who need automation or longer-term structure.
Cons: Website Exceptions are unavailable on iOS and Android, and Chromebook also lacks them and app blocking, constraining some multi-device setups.
Cons: Monthly Premium costs 8.99 USD per month versus 3.33 USD per year for annual billing, so the monthly option is substantially more expensive over time.

Alternatives

Opal may suit users who want a free plan with one rule, basic timers and soundscapes, app blocking, and an Opal Score for today across iOS, Android, and Mac.
Pluckeye is a free option for users who want all its features without a paid plan.

Verdict

Choose Freedom if you want blocking sessions and schedules to sync across devices, with paid automation and Locked Mode to help keep a focus routine in place. Its main advantage is that combination of cross-device controls and session enforcement; look elsewhere if your setup depends on mobile Website Exceptions or Chromebook app blocking.
