Overview

DisplayFusion is a Windows utility for people who want more control over multi-monitor layouts, windows and desktop behavior. It is best suited to users who regularly work across several screens, from home-office users to IT teams managing deployments. Its breadth is a strength, but anyone who needs virtual desktop controls will need another tool.

Key features

Displays and windows

DisplayFusion can add a taskbar to each monitor and configure resolution, colour depth, refresh rate, orientation, profiles and screen splitting. That range is useful for setups that need more than a basic extension of the desktop, though it may be excessive if the only goal is to add a taskbar.

Window tools cover snapping, sizing and moving, while saved position profiles, layout presets and application rules support repeatable arrangements. These controls can reduce the work of rebuilding a multi-screen workspace; the notable gap is the absence of virtual desktop controls.

Automation, remote control and wallpaper

Triggers can respond to events such as a window being created or focused, desktop unlock, or system idle, and run a preset command or custom script. That makes DisplayFusion a stronger fit for users who want desktop behavior to react to routine events than for those seeking only display configuration.

A phone or tablet can remotely change wallpaper, toggle monitors and perform other actions. Wallpaper can come from a personal collection, online sources or a direct image URL, giving users flexibility without making wallpaper the product's main draw.

Deployment and privacy

Corporate deployment options include silent installer settings and custom ADMX templates for Active Directory Group Policy. These are practical additions for IT teams rolling out the software across managed Windows environments.

Data transferred between users and company servers is encrypted over HTTPS, backups are encrypted, and passwords are salted and hashed. Desktop applications also send anonymous telemetry about operating system version, screen resolution and enabled features; users can disable it in product settings.

Pricing

Downloads include a free 30-day Pro trial, after which users can continue with DisplayFusion Free at 0.00 USD per free. That makes it possible to keep using a free version, though users who need Pro capabilities should compare the license terms rather than assume the free option is equivalent.

DisplayFusion Pro Standard: 34.00 USD per once, billed per machine, with a lifetime license and all future versions. It is the lowest-cost paid option for a single machine.
DisplayFusion Pro on Steam: 39.99 USD per once, usable wherever Steam is installed with the user's Steam account. It requires the Steam desktop client for installation and includes a lifetime license.
DisplayFusion Pro Personal: 49.00 USD per once for any number of computers in a household. It is personal-use only, with one company computer permitted if only the purchaser uses it; the license is lifetime.
DisplayFusion Pro Site: 899.00 USD per once for unlimited machines at one site, with a lifetime license.
DisplayFusion Pro Enterprise: 3899.00 USD per once for unlimited computers at unlimited physical locations, with a lifetime license.

Standard is the straightforward choice for one machine, while Steam suits users who want their license tied to their Steam account. Personal costs more but covers household computers; Site and Enterprise are aimed at organizations, with Enterprise extending coverage across locations. All paid options are one-time purchases rather than recurring subscriptions.

Platforms

DisplayFusion supports Windows 11, Windows 10 version 1607 or higher, and Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022. Downloads support x86, x64 and ARM64. It is not a cross-platform option for users who need the same monitor-management tool on macOS or Linux.

Who it's for

Choose DisplayFusion if you want one Windows utility for monitor configuration, per-monitor taskbars, window placement and event-driven automation. The deployment options also make it relevant to organizations managing Windows desktops. It is less compelling for someone who only wants a narrow taskbar tweak or requires virtual desktop controls.

Pros and cons

Pro: Combines monitor configuration, per-monitor taskbars and window-position tools, so users can manage several parts of a multi-screen workflow in one utility.
Pro: Event triggers can run preset commands or custom scripts, supporting automated responses to common desktop events.
Pro: The free version remains available after the 30-day Pro trial, and paid licenses are one-time purchases.
Pro: Silent installation settings and custom ADMX templates support managed organizational deployment.
Con: It has no virtual desktop controls, leaving that part of Windows desktop management to another tool.
Con: The Standard license is billed per machine, so covering a household or organization requires a different, more expensive tier.
Con: Anonymous desktop telemetry is enabled unless users turn it off in settings.

Alternatives

For a Windows-focused alternative, bug.n is a free, GPL-3.0 window manager. For other platforms, awesome is a free Linux window manager under GNU GPLv2, Qtile is a free, MIT-licensed Linux desktop window manager/compositor, spectrwm is a free X11 window manager for Linux, macOS and Windows, Amethyst is a free macOS tiling window manager with configurable layouts and keyboard shortcuts, and i3 is free and open source for Linux and BSD. Choose among them when their stated platform or window-manager focus better matches your needs. Launchpad and Reloop are also alternatives.

Verdict

DisplayFusion is a strong choice for Windows users who need more than basic multi-monitor support: it combines display controls, window tools, triggers and remote actions, with licenses that scale from one machine to an organization. Look elsewhere if virtual desktop controls are essential, or if you need a tool that runs beyond Windows.
