Overview

Givebutter is nonprofit software for running fundraising campaigns and keeping donor records together. It is best suited to organizations that want a broad set of giving tools without paying for a contact-limited CRM. Its free core is compelling, but the Plus subscription scales with contact count and fundraising fees depend on whether donors are invited to tip.

Key features

Fundraising: Donation forms and pages, events, auctions, and peer-to-peer campaigns cover a wide range of appeals in one service. Recurring donations and campaign reporting support organizations managing continuing gifts as well as individual campaigns.
Donor CRM: The free CRM includes unlimited contacts, donor histories, custom fields, notes, tags, and reporting. That removes a common reason to upgrade for organizations that need to grow their contact database but can do without Plus tools.
Plus tools: Automated workflows, task management, an advanced email editor, texting, custom reports, expanded data visualizations, file uploads, data hygiene, and discounted direct mail suit teams that need more coordinated supporter communication and analysis. These features come with contact-based pricing, so larger databases raise the subscription cost.
Integrations and security: Givebutter says it connects with more than 1,000 third-party applications through native integrations and Zapier automations. Named integrations include Mailchimp, QuickBooks Online, Salesforce, HubSpot, and Stripe; QuickBooks Online requires Plus. Stripe processes payments as Givebutter’s PCI-compliant partner, while two-factor authentication and campaign reviews address account and fraud risks.
Mobile: The free iOS and Android app supports donations, event management, and campaign tracking, but requires a Givebutter account. Tap to Pay requires iPhone XS or later with iOS 16.0+, or an Android 11+ device with NFC.
Support: Givebutter says support is free for all users and available 24/7, a useful inclusion for organizations that do not want support access tied to a paid tier.

Pricing

Free forever: free. This plan includes donation forms, fundraising pages and events, auctions, donor management and CRM, marketing and engagement. Givebutter also describes the free tier as including unlimited users, contacts, email blasts, and fundraising campaigns. It is the sensible starting point for teams that can work without Plus features.

Givebutter Plus: 29.00 USD per month (billed billed annually). Plus adds automated workflows, task management, an advanced email editor, texting, custom reports, and expanded data visualizations. The contact-based tiers shown are up to 250 contacts: 29.00 USD per month, up to 1,000 contacts: 79.00 USD per month, and up to 2,500 contacts: 129.00 USD per month. The contact-based offer includes advanced features and a 30-day commitment-free trial; tiers extend through 50,000+ contacts. Organizations should compare the tier for their database with the value of those added tools before upgrading.

Givebutter’s pricing note also describes paid access from $29/mo (annual) and a 30-day trial. For platform fees, the pricing page lists 0% when optional tips are enabled; with tips disabled, it lists a 3% platform fee plus 2.9% + 30¢ processing fees. Payment processing is separate, so the free subscription does not mean every donation is cost-free to process. Givebutter offers recurring gifts, but the fee terms still matter for each organization’s fundraising model.

Platforms

Givebutter is available on web, iOS, and Android. The mobile app extends campaign and event tasks away from a desktop, while Tap to Pay has specific device and operating-system requirements.

Who it's for

Givebutter fits nonprofits seeking fundraising, donor records, and supporter engagement in one place, especially those that value unlimited free CRM contacts and users. Smaller teams can remain on the free plan if its tools meet their needs. Organizations that rely on automation, texting, or advanced reporting should budget for Plus by contact tier. It is less attractive when a team wants paid capabilities without contact-based pricing or needs to avoid the listed platform and processing fees.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited free CRM contacts, users, email blasts, and campaigns let organizations build a sizeable fundraising operation without a per-contact CRM ceiling.
Pro: Forms, events, auctions, peer-to-peer fundraising, recurring donations, and donor records share one service, reducing the need to split those functions across separate tools.
Pro: Free 24/7 support and a free iOS and Android app are included across the user base.
Con: Plus pricing rises with contact count, making the upgrade more costly as a donor database grows.
Con: Donations can incur a 3% platform fee and 2.9% + 30¢ processing fee when optional tips are disabled, so teams must account for fee settings in their fundraising economics.
Con: QuickBooks Online integration is limited to Plus, which may make the free tier less suitable for organizations that need that connection.

Verdict

Choose Givebutter if your nonprofit wants fundraising campaigns and an unlimited-contact free CRM in one platform, with a path to deeper workflows and reporting as needs grow. The main reason to look elsewhere is cost uncertainty at scale: Plus is contact-priced, and fundraising fees depend on tip settings alongside processing charges. Teams should verify both their likely contact tier and fee approach before committing to the paid plan.
