Overview

Echometer is a browser-based service for retrospectives, team health checks, and manager–employee 1:1s. It is best suited to agile managers who want to connect team reflection with ongoing health monitoring and individual conversations. Its broad toolkit is tempered by a sharply limited free retrospective plan and cloud-only delivery.

Rather than serving only as a retrospective board, Echometer combines recurring team rituals with manager check-ins. That breadth makes it a stronger fit for organizations building a continuing team-development practice than for teams seeking only a simple retro tool. See our Retrospective Software guide for more options.

Key features

Retrospectives and follow-through

The retrospective tool includes more than 50 templates, a shared board, private brainstorming, dot voting, surveys, whiteboards, and action tracking. Participants can contribute ideas privately, prioritize them together, and carry agreed actions forward. Anonymous feedback is supported, and Echometer can be used for online and in-person delivery.

Jira integration puts retrospective action items on Jira boards. That is useful for teams already managing work in Jira, since follow-up can sit alongside their other tracked work. The facilitation options are substantial, but their value is constrained on Starter: one team can run only one retrospective per month after the trial, with just two retrospectives retained in its archive.

Team health and 1:1 meetings

Team dashboards and health trends track health checks and activity, including across teams. This gives managers a way to monitor patterns beyond a single retrospective. The 1:1 tool handles agendas and notes and integrates with Microsoft calendar, extending Echometer’s use to regular individual conversations.

Managers can hold unlimited free 1:1 meetings with up to two employees, and the free 1:1 version includes all functions. That is a meaningful entry point for a manager with a small number of direct reports, even though the free retrospective allowance may be too restrictive for a team with monthly or more frequent sessions.

Security and support

Echometer says it uses TLS encryption and hosts exclusively at Deutsche Telekom in Germany, in a data center certified to ISO 27001, among other certifications. A GDPR data processing agreement is included with each subscription or contract, using the version current when the contract is concluded. These provisions may suit organizations prioritizing German hosting, but they do not change the cloud-only model: customers cannot host Echometer on-premise.

Support is available by email or from within Echometer. Its customer success team can also help with onboarding and rollout for an additional charge, a potentially useful option for organizations introducing the service across teams.

Pricing

Echometer uses a freemium model, with a free plan and paid plans from €29/mo (annual). A free trial is also offered. The paid prices are billed per team per month, so they are team-level costs rather than per-user rates.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Starter	0.00 EUR per free	One team, 25 workspace members, unlimited retro guests, one retrospective per month after the trial period, and an archive of two retrospectives per team. Free 1:1 meetings are unlimited for up to two employees and include all functions.
Pro	29.00 EUR per year billed per team/month with an annual term, or €35 with a monthly term	Unlimited retrospectives and workspace members, customizable retrospectives and health checks, and an unlimited archive.
Business	49.00 EUR per year billed per team/month with an annual term, or €60 with a monthly term	Everything in Pro, plus SAML SSO, email domain filters, the option of individual contracts, invoice payment, and prioritized support.

Starter is a reasonable way for one small team to try the retrospective workflow, but the monthly quota and two-retro archive make it unsuitable for frequent sessions or longer-term review. Pro removes those limits and is the practical step up for teams that need unlimited retrospectives, more members, or customization. Business adds identity controls and commercial terms that matter more to organizations with procurement or access-management requirements; prioritized support is another distinction. Customer success onboarding and rollout assistance costs extra.

Platforms

Echometer runs in modern browsers and is available on the web, Linux, macOS, and Windows. It can be used on tablets and PCs without restrictions, but it is cloud software only; there is no customer-hosted on-premise edition.

Who it's for

Echometer is a good match for agile managers and companies that want retrospectives, health checks, and 1:1 management in one service. Teams that rely on Jira can connect retro actions to their boards, while managers with up to two employees can use the complete free 1:1 feature set. It is less suitable for teams that need frequent retrospectives without a paid plan, or organizations that require on-premise hosting.

Pros and cons

Pros: Retrospectives, health monitoring, and 1:1 meetings sit in one service, giving managers a broader team-development toolkit than a retro-only board.
Pros: More than 50 templates, private brainstorming, anonymous feedback, voting, and action tracking support the full path from input to follow-up.
Pros: The free 1:1 version includes all functions and permits unlimited meetings with up to two employees.
Pros: German hosting, TLS encryption, and an included GDPR data processing agreement provide concrete security and data-processing provisions.
Cons: Starter permits one retrospective per month after trial and retains only two per team, making recurring retro use quickly constrained.
Cons: Cloud-only delivery rules it out for organizations that require customer-hosted software.
Cons: Onboarding and rollout help from customer success carries an additional charge.

Alternatives

For teams comparing retrospective tools, start with our Retrospective Software guide. FocusRetro is worth considering if a free web-based option with three personal boards per month, core templates, voting, phase timers, and action items better matches the need. Neatro may suit a team prioritizing a free tier with unlimited retrospectives and radars, up to 10 members, and more than 70 templates.

ScatterSpoke is another freemium option. Team O'clock offers a Growth plan priced per active member, starting at 10 monthly active members. RetroStack is a free alternative with web, iOS, Android, and Mac availability. EasyRetro is a freemium web option. FreeRetrospectives is worth a look for teams seeking a free service with retro rooms, live chat, templates, action tracking, exports, health checks, and no per-user pricing. GoRetro has a Premium plan at 29.00 USD per month, billed annually at $348 year, per team.

Verdict

Choose Echometer if you want one cloud service for retrospective facilitation, team health trends, and manager 1:1s, particularly when its German hosting and Jira action tracking suit your organization. Its strongest case is the combination of team and individual development tools; look elsewhere if you need on-premise hosting or expect to run frequent retrospectives on a free plan.
