Overview

EZTax is an Indian tax and accounting platform for individuals, businesses and professionals. It suits taxpayers with salary, investments, trading or crypto income, as well as organizations needing GST or TDS compliance. The main appeal is the combination of automated document handling, tax comparisons and optional expert assistance; the trade-off is that pricing and eligibility vary substantially by income type and service.

Its self-service ITR portal covers individuals, HUFs, NRIs, traders, small businesses, firms and companies. Users can upload Form 16, AIS, Form 26AS and broker statements, or authorize access to Income Tax Department data. EZTax says its AI reader extracts information and pre-fills returns, which is most useful when records are already digital. EZTax is operated by MYD Labs Pvt. Ltd., founded in 2016.

Key features

Preparation and tax decisions

Smart Tax Optimiser compares old and new tax regimes in real time and surfaces deductions and exemptions for the user’s income profile. That makes it more useful than a basic form-filling service for taxpayers deciding which regime fits. Smart AIS Reconciliation compares AIS data with ITR entries and flags mismatches before e-filing, helping catch discrepancies before submission.

Investments and documents

Capital Gains Intelligence calculates LTCG, STCG, crypto gains, F&O profit and loss, and indexation benefits. It can import AIS, broker statements and exchange data, giving traders and investors a more relevant workflow than an ordinary salary-return product. Imported or authorized records can also reduce repetitive data entry.

Business compliance

GST tools cover accounting, invoicing, return filing and reconciliation for businesses and professionals. TDS services prepare Forms 24Q, 26Q, 27Q and 27EQ, with AI-assisted deductee management and TRACES validation. These broader services make EZTax a candidate for organizations that want income tax, GST and TDS in one provider rather than separate tools.

Security and support

EZTax states that it uses 256-bit A+ grade SSL and ISO 27001 certified data centres in India. Privacy Filing mode adds endpoint and client-side security and is described as restricting data visibility to the user. Support is offered through WhatsApp, online chat and support@eztax.in. The service also identifies itself as a Government of India authorized Type-2 and Type-3 e-Return Intermediary and a Protean Technologies recognized TDS Preparation Utility provider.

Pricing

EZTax has a free plan and paid options from ₹249, with a free trial. The monthly Self-Service ITR Filing plan costs ₹249.00 per month, billed ₹249+; it includes online self-filing for salary, capital gains, foreign income and crypto, plus e-filing and a comprehensive report. It is the clearest fit for confident filers who need broad return coverage without expert preparation.

Expert Assisted — Easy costs ₹1299.00 per month, billed GST extra, for income below ₹50L and one Form 16. Medium costs ₹2200.00 per month, billed GST extra, for income below ₹50L. Complex costs ₹4600.00 per month, billed GST extra, and adds expert-assisted preparation for capital gains from equity, fixed assets, mutual funds and property. The higher tiers make sense when unusual income or investments make self-filing risky; the Easy tier is limited by its one-Form-16 condition.

EZTax Prime costs ₹19999.00 per year, billed as an annual compliance plan with GST extra, and includes expert consultation, advance-tax computation and complex-income ITR filing. Prime Plus costs ₹24999.00 per year, GST extra, and adds planning and management for high-income, NRI, HNI and founder support, including multi-country earners and complex traders. These are aimed at ongoing, high-complexity needs rather than a single straightforward return.

Business plans are Small Business at ₹1600.00 per month, GST extra, for turnover up to ₹3Cr or profession turnover below ₹75L; Business Filing at ₹5800.00 per month, GST extra, for business income with or without audit, balance-sheet filing and CA audit where applicable; and Partnership Firm IT Filing at ₹7999.00 per month, GST extra, for partnership-firm filing with or without audit. One-time ordinary-return options are ₹249.00 for income below ₹5L, ₹399.00 for ordinary or presumptive business income up to ₹50L, and ₹599.00 for NRI, HUF or HNI cases with gross income below ₹5L; each is billed plus GST and free to prepare.

Platforms

EZTax runs on web, Android, iOS and Windows, giving users a choice of browser or device-based access.

Who it's for

Choose EZTax if you need Indian ITR filing alongside GST or TDS work, or if your return includes broker data, crypto, foreign income or multiple capital-gains categories. Self-service suits users comfortable reviewing imported data; expert plans suit complex returns, audits and high-income or international situations. It is less compelling for someone seeking only a simple, permanently free return with no broader compliance needs.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad tax coverage: Salary, capital gains, crypto, foreign income, GST and TDS are handled in one platform.
Useful reconciliation: AIS-to-ITR checks can expose mismatches before e-filing.
Flexible assistance: One-time, monthly and annual expert options cover both occasional and ongoing needs.
Multiple access routes: Web, Android, iOS and Windows support varied working habits.

Cons

Plan complexity: Income, taxpayer type, Form 16 count and audit status determine which option applies.
Extra tax on many plans: GST is added to most paid expert and business prices.
Self-service responsibility: Automation pre-fills information, but users still need to review imported data and reconciliation results.

Alternatives

For an API or self-hosted workflow with a permanent free tier limited to one federal return and five document uploads, choose Taxation.ai. TelosTax is the alternative for a free, open-source tax-preparation app for tax year 2025 across desktop and mobile platforms. Choose Instead when unlimited users, entities, e-files and collaborators are more important than EZTax’s Indian tax and GST focus. TaxAct and H&R Block Online are web-based alternatives for eligible US standard or simple returns. Quicko is a lower-cost Indian option with a free tier for income up to 12 lac and salary, house-property and IFOS income. Keeper focuses on deduction discovery and an AI tax assistant. OpenTax by Invaro is a free option with API, web, desktop and self-hosted deployments.

Verdict

EZTax is a strong choice for Indian taxpayers and small organizations that want automated document imports, regime comparison and AIS checks alongside optional GST, TDS and expert services. Look elsewhere if your needs are limited to a simple free return, or if you require a clearly fixed price without GST and income-based plan conditions.
