Overview

Feem is a direct-transfer app for moving files between devices on a nearby local network. It suits people sharing files between their own devices or with others in the same place, especially where Internet access is unreliable. Its strongest appeal is keeping transfers local; its short range rules it out for sending files to someone elsewhere.

Key features

Devices on the same network are discovered automatically, using random names by default. This makes connecting straightforward, but can make it harder to identify a particular device; the Personal plan adds customizable device names. Feem can connect through shared Wi-Fi, a hotspot, or Wi-Fi Direct, so an Internet connection is not required.

Full-duplex transfers let both devices send and receive simultaneously, which is useful when exchanging files in both directions. The built-in chat supports messages between connected devices and deletes them after 48 hours. Feem says transfers use TLS 1.3 encryption and files remain on the local network. Its push-based approach sends files from the sender rather than pulling them or exposing the whole file system by default; its privacy policy says it does not store chat history or see shared files.

The local design also sets firm limits: devices must be nearby and on the same local network, and Feem cannot transfer files to someone in another city. The app must remain in the foreground during transfers, since mobile operating systems may interrupt background activity. That makes Feem better for attended exchanges than for sending files and walking away.

Pricing

Feem uses a freemium model, with unlimited file transfers on every plan. The free plan is free and is free to download. It is the sensible starting point for occasional local transfers, though it does not include the listed Pro benefits of removing ads, customizable names and download locations, or priority email support.

Feem Pro iOS costs 4.99 USD per year, manually renewed each year and not automatically billed. It covers iPhones and iPads and all devices linked to the buyer’s Apple ID, with unlimited transfers, no ads, and medium-priority email support. For Apple-only use, it is the lowest-cost paid option.

Feem Pro Personal costs 9.99 USD per year, manually renewed and not automatically billed. It covers 1–4 devices, excluding iPhones and iPads, and adds unlimited transfers, no ads, customizable device names and download locations, and medium-priority email support. This is the fit for an individual or small household that wants more control over device identification and file destinations.

Feem Pro Family costs 49.99 USD per year, also manually renewed and not automatically billed. It covers 5–19 devices, excluding iPhones and iPads, and includes unlimited transfers, no ads, and high-priority email support. Feem Pro Business costs 499.99 USD per year on the same renewal terms and covers 20–100 devices, excluding iPhones and iPads; it includes unlimited transfers, no ads, and highest-priority email support. Those tiers suit larger groups that need the corresponding seat range and support priority, rather than simply higher transfer quotas.

Platforms

Feem supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows. Its download section specifies Android 10+, iOS, Windows 10 and 11, macOS, and Linux distributions including Ubuntu and Fedora. The maker also provides a reseller API for granting Pro licenses, requiring an approved reseller account and authenticated HTTPS requests.

Who it's for

Feem is a practical choice for households, schools, workplaces, and remote or crisis settings where people need to exchange files locally without dependable Internet. It works best when participants are together, can keep the app open, and value a transfer route that stays on the local network. Choose another approach for remote recipients or unattended mobile transfers.

Pros and cons

Pros

Works without Internet over shared Wi-Fi, a hotspot, or Wi-Fi Direct, useful where connectivity is poor.
Unlimited file transfers are included in the free plan, so there is no stated transfer quota to manage.
Full-duplex transfers and built-in chat support two-way exchanges in one local session.
Feem says files stay on the local network, transfers use TLS 1.3, and shared files are not visible to the maker.

Cons

Both devices must be nearby on the same local network, so Feem cannot serve as a long-distance file-sharing tool.
The app needs to stay in the foreground, and mobile operating systems may interrupt background transfers.
Random default device names can make discovery less clear until users customize names on the Personal plan.
Paid plans renew manually each year rather than automatically, so users must renew to continue their chosen subscription.

Alternatives

For a different kind of file-sharing tool, browse Peer-to-Peer File Sharing Software. BitTorrent Classic is a freemium option for macOS and Windows, with a free Basic plan and a paid Ad-Free plan at 6.95 USD.

BitComet is a free option across Android, Linux, macOS, self-hosted, web, and Windows, but its stated terms restrict use to private, personal, non-commercial purposes. TorrServer is a free, self-hosted torrent streaming server under GPL-3.0, a different fit for someone seeking that type of server rather than Feem’s local device-to-device transfers.

Transmission is free and includes all features with no ads or tracking. WebTorrent is free software under the MIT License, described as non-profit and open source. BiglyBT is free software available on Android, Linux, macOS, web, and Windows.

Deluge is a free BitTorrent client that publishes its source repository on GitHub. Vuze offers a free tier with ads and offers, one trial DVD burn, and Play Later; its 3.99 USD per month Plus plan removes ads and includes unlimited DVD burns and Play Sooner.

Verdict

Choose Feem if you need unlimited local transfers between nearby devices, including where Internet access is unavailable. Its no-cost plan and local-first design are compelling for in-person exchanges, but the proximity requirement and need to keep the app in the foreground make it the wrong choice for remote sharing or unattended mobile transfers.
