Overview

Felt combines map-making with spatial analysis, dashboards, and apps. Its analysis tools include spatial SQL, analysis across tables, and plain-language queries with Felt AI. Live connections span services such as BigQuery, Snowflake, Postgres, Esri, Amazon S3, and cloud providers, giving teams options for working with data across existing systems.

The QGIS plugin carries styling, symbology, and layer structure into Felt when publishing, a practical bridge for teams with established QGIS projects. Maps support real-time collaboration, threaded comments, sharing, role-based permissions, custom branding, and iframe embedding. The result is more than a map viewer, though business use requires a paid plan with custom pricing.

Key features

Spatial analysis: Spatial SQL, cross-table analysis, and Felt AI’s plain-language analysis serve both technical users and colleagues who may not write queries. This breadth is useful for mixed GIS and analytics teams, but the platform’s value depends on having spatial data and analysis needs to work with.
Data connections: Connectors include Amazon S3, BigQuery, Databricks, Esri, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, MS SQL, Postgres, Snowflake, STAC, WFS, WMTS, Wherobots, and Amazon Redshift. Live refresh helps keep connected data current.
QGIS publishing: Preserving styling, symbology, and layer structure reduces the work of carrying an existing QGIS project into a shared cloud workflow.
Field collection: The iOS and Android Field App supports surveys, GPS capture, geotagged photos, and offline work, then syncs when connectivity returns. That makes it relevant to teams collecting information in places with unreliable service.
Team and developer workflows: Real-time collaboration, threaded comments, sharing, and permissions support group map work. Enterprise includes a REST API and JavaScript SDK; Felt’s app development materials also describe a Python SDK and webhooks.
Security and hosting: Felt states that it is SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant, encrypts web traffic and credentials, and monitors systems around the clock. Data is hosted in the U.S. by default, with regional hosting, data residency options, and customer VPC deployment for enterprise needs.

Pricing

Felt uses a freemium model, but the free plan is deliberately narrow for anyone working on behalf of a business.

Personal — 0.00 USD per free, forever: Includes unlimited maps and sharing, but does not allow uploads of your own data files and is limited to personal use. It can suit someone exploring map-making with Felt’s permitted use, but is not a business starter tier.
Professional — custom pricing, annual contract: Includes 10 full seats, unlimited free viewers, 25 GB of monthly data processing, and 100K monthly map views. It also includes a one-hour onboarding session and a 7-day trial, plus priority email and chat support. This is the fit for teams that need business use and a defined processing and viewing allowance. Felt says it does not automatically bill overages or throttle maps.
Enterprise — custom pricing, annual contract: Includes 10 full seats, unlimited free viewers, usage scaled to the plan, live cloud sources, REST API and JavaScript SDK, SSO/SAML, regional hosting, and VPC deployment. It is aimed at larger GIS organizations needing integration, identity controls, or deployment flexibility. Dedicated customer success, technical support, and custom onboarding add a more supported rollout.

Professional and Enterprise both start with 10 full seats, while viewers are unlimited at no charge. Prices for both annual plans are custom, so teams must seek a quote to compare costs. The 7-day trial applies to Professional; the free Personal plan has no stated trial term because it is free forever.

Platforms

Felt lists web, iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux, API, and self-hosted platforms. The dedicated field collection app is available on iOS and Android. Enterprise hosting options include regional hosting and customer VPC deployment.

Who it's for

Felt is a strong candidate for GIS teams, field and operations teams, data science and analytics groups, and product or engineering teams that need maps connected to analysis and collaborative workflows. Large GIS organizations may benefit most from the Enterprise API, SSO/SAML, and hosting options. It is not the right choice for a business that expects to start with a full-featured, free personal plan, since Personal prohibits business use and uploading one’s own data files.

Pros and cons

Pro: Analysis, map collaboration, and field collection sit in one platform, reducing the need to divide those workflows across separate tools.
Pro: The QGIS plugin preserves project styling and structure during publishing, helping existing GIS work carry over intact.
Pro: Offline field capture with later syncing supports collection where connectivity is intermittent.
Pro: Enterprise offers SSO/SAML, APIs, regional hosting, and VPC deployment for organizations with integration or deployment requirements.
Con: The free plan is personal-only and disallows own-file uploads, so it cannot serve as a no-cost business GIS.
Con: Professional and Enterprise use annual contracts with custom pricing, making costs harder to assess before requesting a quote.
Con: Professional’s 25 GB processing and 100K monthly map-view allowances may constrain teams with heavier usage; Enterprise scales usage to the plan.

Alternatives

For simpler map creation or a different balance of cost and limits, consider Scribble Maps, BatchGeo, MapTiler Cloud, NextGIS Web, everviz, MapHub, Mapline, or Datawrapper.

Interactive Map Software, GIS Software, and Map Creation Software are broader categories to explore when comparing products.

Choose Scribble Maps if its free tier’s 5 lifetime map saves, one user, and 450×450px images are enough, or if you want its Pro Basic option at 19.00 USD per month. BatchGeo Pro is a better fit when 100,000 markers per map, password protection, 10 included users, Street View integration, and PDF, PNG, or KML export matter. MapTiler Cloud’s free tier suits testing, personal, or non-commercial work with 5 GB storage, 5k sessions/month, and 100k API requests/month; it is not a substitute for business GIS use on Felt’s Personal plan.

NextGIS Web is worth considering when Linux, self-hosting, or a lower-cost named tier matters: Mini is 180.00 EUR per year for one user, 10 GiB storage, unlimited layers, one tracker, and one collector. everviz, MapHub, Mapline, and Datawrapper are alternatives to compare when their specific mapping needs are a closer fit; no further plan-level comparison is warranted here.

Verdict

Choose Felt if your organization needs spatial analysis, field capture, and collaborative maps in one GIS platform, particularly when QGIS publishing or enterprise integration matters. Its principal strength is the range of connected workflows; its principal drawback is that business use starts with annual custom pricing, while the free plan excludes business use and own-file uploads. For personal mapping or teams seeking transparent, low-cost pricing, look elsewhere.
