Overview

Contacts, matters, tasks, time records, invoices and reporting sit within the same workflow. Firms can track time against matters, use those records to create invoices and automate invoice reminders. Document tools add centralized files, templates, secure sharing, custom tags and search, but document management begins at Essentielle+ rather than the entry plan.

Jarvis Legal is made by a Paris-based company founded in 2013 and acquired by LexisNexis in 2024. Its document space is cloud-hosted in France, with sovereign data hosting and GDPR compliance. Those provisions may matter to firms choosing where client materials are stored. The maker advertises more than 7,500 users.

Key features

Matters, time and billing

Essentielle covers contacts, matters and tasks, time tracking, billing, reporting, email synchronization and mobile access. Matter-based time records that can feed invoices make this a coherent starting point for practices focused on billable work. Automatic invoice reminders can also reduce follow-up. Firms that need document management or two-way calendar synchronization must step up to Essentielle+.

Documents and calendars

Essentielle+ adds document management, Office 365 synchronization, offline document access on Mac and PC, and bidirectional calendar synchronization. That makes it the more suitable tier for teams that need files and calendars connected to their matter workflow. Jarvis also identifies native Microsoft 365 integration for Word, Outlook and Excel. Copilote adds document templates and editing, an Outlook module for Mac and PC with Smart Reply, an eParapheur and client portal; these collaboration tools make the higher price easier to justify for firms that use them regularly.

AI and analytics

Copilote+ adds Protégé, integrated LexisNexis legal research, document analysis and processing, task automation, and Jarvis Analytics. Protégé can create and organize files, summarize and compare documents, draft legal documents, translate materials and answer legal questions using Lexis+ sources. The offer describes its AI as sovereign and designed to preserve data confidentiality. Customizable dashboards and indicators provide real-time views of firm performance. These are substantial additions, but they are concentrated in the costliest plan, so firms that only need matter and billing management need not pay for them.

Pricing

Jarvis Legal is paid software, with no free plan and a 14-day free trial advertised without commitment or credit-card details. The maker says pricing has no hidden costs. Plans are priced per user, so the total rises with team size.

Essentielle — 38.00 EUR per month (38 € HT per user per month): contacts, matters and tasks, billing and time tracking, reporting, email synchronization, mobile access, customizable fields, support, updates and GDPR compliance. It is the core option for firms that can work without document management and two-way calendar sync.
Essentielle+ — 48.00 EUR per month per user: everything in Essentielle, plus document management, Office 365 synchronization, offline document access on Mac and PC, and bidirectional calendar synchronization. The €10 step up is relevant when those document and calendar workflows are needed.
Copilote — 89.00 EUR per month per user: everything in Essentielle+, plus document templates and editing, eParapheur, client task templates, Outlook module with Smart Reply, client portal, accounting exports and Deliveract service of documents. Choose it when client collaboration and these document tools are part of daily work.
Copilote+ — 149.00 EUR per month per user: everything in Copilote, plus Protégé, integrated LexisNexis legal research, document analysis and processing, task automation and Jarvis Analytics. It is aimed at firms with a clear use for legal AI and performance dashboards; otherwise, the jump from Copilote is difficult to justify.

Support and updates are included in Essentielle, as are GDPR compliance and sovereign data hosting. The higher plans build on the preceding tier, rather than replacing its core features.

Platforms

Jarvis Legal supports Android, iOS, macOS, web and Windows, and includes mobile apps. Offline document access on Mac and PC is available from Essentielle+. A client portal is included in Copilote and above.

Who it's for

Jarvis Legal is designed for lawyers and law firms that want matter administration, time capture, billing and reporting in one system. Essentielle can suit a practice prioritizing those fundamentals; Essentielle+ is a better fit when document and calendar synchronization are operational needs. Copilote is for firms that also want a client portal and richer document workflows, while Copilote+ is best reserved for teams that will use its legal AI and analytics. It is less compelling for a firm seeking a free starting point or unwilling to pay per user for the functions it needs.

Pros and cons

Pros

Time connects to billing: matter-based time tracking can generate invoices, with automatic reminders for clients.
Clear feature progression: document management and calendar sync arrive at Essentielle+, the client portal at Copilote, and Protégé and Analytics at Copilote+.
Data protections are part of the offer: sovereign hosting and GDPR compliance are included, and documents are hosted in France.
Broad device coverage: web, desktop and mobile platforms support access across common work devices.

Cons

No free plan: the 14-day trial is the only no-cost way to evaluate the paid product.
Key tools require upgrades: document management starts at Essentielle+, while the client portal and AI capabilities require Copilote and Copilote+ respectively.
Per-user prices can add up: a firm with many seats pays more as its team grows, especially at the higher tiers.

Alternatives

Consider Legal Practice Management Software if you want to compare the category more broadly.

8am MyCase offers a free plan and trial, with MyCase Basic at 50.00 USD per month when billed annually; consider it if a free-plan option or its stated annual Basic plan better fits your budget.
Filevine uses custom-built packages for matter and document management and billing, with optional intake, deposition, signature and AI packages. It may suit firms that want a package tailored around those modules.
CaseFox has a free Solo plan capped at 4 cases and 2 users, with PRO features, and a Professional plan at 45.00 USD per month. It is worth considering if a capped free tier matters.
HoudiniEsq has a perpetual free license for one solo practitioner and supports self-hosted and Linux environments. Consider it if those deployment options or a single-user free license are priorities.
RunSensible has a free plan and paid tiers that include unlimited e-signature and storage. Consider it if those capabilities are central to your choice.
Lexzur offers plans for 3–5 users, up to 25 users and up to 50 users, with an enterprise tier also describing unlimited capacity. Consider it if those stated team-size bands fit your firm.
CosmoLex starts with Launch at 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly per user, including time tracking, invoicing, online payments, trust accounting and ledgers. Choose it if those payment and trust-accounting tools are a closer match.
LegalRobe has a free plan capped at 3 team members, 3 matters and 5 GB of storage, with no AI tokens. Consider it if a capped free tier is more important than Jarvis Legal's paid-plan structure.

Verdict

Jarvis Legal is a strong fit for law firms that want matter management tied directly to time, invoicing and reporting, with a path to documents, client collaboration and legal AI as needs grow. Its French document hosting, sovereign data hosting and GDPR compliance add useful assurances. The main reason to look elsewhere is cost: there is no free plan, pricing is per user, and the portal, AI and analytics require higher-priced tiers. Start with Essentielle for core operations, and choose Copilote+ only if the firm will make practical use of Protégé and Jarvis Analytics.
