Overview

Flocknote is built for churches and ministries that need to communicate with members and coordinate participation as well as maintain records. Email and text messaging sit alongside signups, payment collection, and giving, making it a broad fit for routine church operations. That breadth may be more than an organization needs if it is looking only for a messaging or giving tool.

Members can receive messages without downloading an app. Flocknote recommends administrators access the service through a mobile browser, so mobile access is available but browser-based for church staff.

Key features

Messaging and member records

Administrators can send email or text to a group, several groups, or individuals. Member records support custom profile fields, household grouping, relationship and attendance tracking, and document storage. These tools can help churches organize more than contact details, though household records and donor management require Complete.

Signups, giving, and integrations

Signups support registrations, RSVPs, polls, surveys, volunteering, and event payments. Custom registration forms and payment collection make the signup tools useful for activities that involve both participation and a fee. Flocknote also says users can export data for accounting software, connect signup forms and RSS feeds to a church website, and post notes to social media.

Online giving is included with U.S. plans without setup or monthly fees. Each ACH transaction costs 1.1% plus 30¢; credit and debit card transactions cost 2.9% plus 30¢. The absence of setup and monthly charges lowers the fixed cost, but the per-gift fees matter for churches that collect frequently or receive larger donations by card.

Security and support

Flocknote says giving is processed through Stax, which it identifies as a Level 1 PCI service provider, and that card details are encrypted and not retained after a transaction. It also says data sent to and from its service uses TLS and is encrypted and authenticated using SHA-256 with RSA encryption. Help is available by email from its Happiness Engineers.

Pricing

Flocknote uses a freemium model with a free plan and a free trial. Its plans combine a per-church membership price with feature differences, so the Starter price rises with the number of members.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Flocknote Starter	Free for 0–40 members; $10 for 41–50 members; $17 for 51–70 members, monthly	Unlimited email, unlimited standard texting, online giving, and event signups
Flocknote Complete	75.00 USD per month, plus the Starter price based on total members; 0–40 members costs $75	Starter features, household database, donor management, registration, and five free Text-to-Join keywords
Flocknote Enterprise	Custom pricing	Diocesan and multi-campus solution, subnetworks, training, support, and migration

Starter is the natural entry point for a small church that needs messaging, giving, and basic signups. Its free-for-life price applies only through 40 members; the listed monthly prices rise to $10 for 41–50 and $17 for 51–70. The plan includes unlimited email and standard texting, but not Complete’s household database or donor management.

Complete costs 75.00 USD per month on top of the membership-based Starter price, so it is aimed at churches that need household records, donor management, or registration. It includes five Text-to-Join keywords; Starter includes one. Each additional keyword costs $5 per month. Enterprise uses custom pricing and is intended for diocesan and multi-campus organizations needing subnetworks and migration, training, and support.

Platforms

Flocknote is a web service with mobile access through a browser. Members do not need an app to receive messages, while administrators are advised to use a mobile browser.

Who it's for

Flocknote is strongest for churches and ministries that want messaging, member administration, signups, and giving together. Starter can suit a congregation with up to 40 members looking for those core functions at no plan charge. Churches that need household and donor tools should weigh Complete’s additional monthly cost against the value of keeping those records alongside communications. Diocesan and multi-campus teams have an Enterprise option with subnetworks and migration support.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unlimited email and standard texting on Starter, plus giving and event signups, provide a broad operational base even on the free tier for churches with up to 40 members.
Pros: Signups cover polls, surveys, volunteering, RSVPs, and payments, so churches can handle several kinds of participation through one tool.
Pros: Members can receive messages without an app, and giving has no setup or monthly fee on U.S. plans.
Cons: Starter pricing increases with membership, and Complete adds 75.00 USD per month before the membership-based Starter price.
Cons: Household database and donor management are held back for Complete, limiting the free plan’s usefulness for churches that want those records.
Cons: Giving fees apply to every transaction, and additional Text-to-Join keywords cost $5 per month each.
Cons: Administrator mobile access is browser-based, which may not suit teams looking for a dedicated mobile app workflow.

Alternatives

For organizations comparing adjacent tools, these directories cover nonprofit text messaging software, church text messaging software, nonprofit text-to-give software, church giving software, and church event management software.

CallHub is a nonprofit messaging alternative with a free plan and free trial, plus Android, iOS, desktop, web, and API platforms. KindEngage offers a free plan and free trial as a web-based freemium service. Text-Em-All has a free Starter tier for testing voice broadcasts and texting, while mass texting requires an upgrade. OpenFn is a freemium, API and self-hosted workflow alternative with a free plan limited to one workflow, 100 runs per month, and one user. Text Request is a paid messaging option with a free trial and an Enterprise plan at 575.00 USD per month. Sinch Engage is a paid messaging service with a free trial and plans that specify monthly SMS and user limits. TXTPass is a paid messaging service with a free trial and a Basic plan at 9.99 USD per month. Beetexting is another paid option with a free trial; its Professional plan is 89.97 USD per month and includes two users, one number, and 1,000 messages.

Verdict

Choose Flocknote if your church or ministry wants messaging, member tools, signups, and giving in a single service, and Starter’s membership-based cost fits your size. Its broad combination and free tier make it a practical starting point for small congregations. Look elsewhere if you need household and donor records without Complete’s added monthly charge, or if the giving transaction fees and browser-based administrator access do not fit your operation.
