Overview

Formbricks is a feedback platform for collecting surveys across websites, apps, and email. It suits organizations that need flexible surveys, respondent segmentation, or the option to self-host. Its main advantage is the choice of channels and deployment; the trade-off is a firm cloud response cap and meaningful upkeep for self-hosted installations.

It supports both types of NPS surveys as well as broader survey use. Compare Net Promoter Score Software, Survey Software, and Survey API Software when weighing category options.

Key features

Survey design and segmentation

Hobby supports link-based and in-product surveys, all question types, conditional logic, hidden fields, partial responses, file uploads, and single-use links. That gives small teams room to shape surveys around answers and control link reuse, but the cloud allowance of 250 responses per month is restrictive once feedback collection becomes routine.

Pro adds respondent identification, contact and segment management, and attribute-based segmentation. Those tools are useful when teams need to organize feedback by respondent characteristics, but they sit behind a paid tier with a 2,000-response monthly ceiling.

Automation and integrations

Pro also adds email follow-ups, custom webhooks, integrations, iOS and Android SDKs, and AI translations. These additions make it more viable for teams connecting feedback collection to existing processes or mobile apps. Named third-party integrations include Airtable, Google Sheets, Notion, Slack, n8n, Zapier, and ActivePieces.

Security and self-hosting

Formbricks says it encrypts data in transit with HTTPS/TLS 1.3 and at rest with AES-256, and lists GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001 compliance. It also says it conducts independent penetration tests annually and makes daily encrypted backups for Formbricks Cloud.

Self-hosting is offered through one-click setup, Docker, and Kubernetes. The documented v6 baseline runs eight long-running services; the evaluation setup calls for 2 vCPU, 4 GB memory, and 20 GB SSD on one server. That makes self-hosting a credible deployment option for teams able to operate the stack, not a way to avoid infrastructure responsibility. Free self-hosted users get community support; EE license users receive prioritized support and updates.

Pricing

Formbricks uses a freemium model, with a 14-day trial and paid cloud pricing noted from $74/mo (annual). The listed monthly plan prices and allowances are:

Plan	Price	Included	Best fit
Hobby	Custom pricing	1 workspace; 250 responses per month	Small projects testing feedback collection
Pro	89.00 USD per month, billed monthly	3 workspaces; 2,000 responses per month; unlimited seats	Teams needing segmentation, automation, and integrations
Scale	390.00 USD per month, billed monthly	5 workspaces; 5,000 responses per month	Organizations needing more response capacity and workspaces

Hobby’s low-commitment entry comes with a tight response limit, while Pro is more capable but still caps monthly volume. Scale raises the cap to 5,000 responses and includes five workspaces; teams expecting more than that should weigh the limits against their anticipated feedback volume. Pro explicitly includes unlimited seats, so it avoids a per-seat constraint at that tier.

Self-Hosting Free is 0.00 USD per free, billed Free, and includes DIY setup and maintenance, community support, moderate customization and control, and most advanced features. Self-Hosting EE License has custom pricing, billed fixed per month, with DIY setup and maintenance, prioritized support and updates, all advanced features, and full customization and control. Both preserve operational responsibility; the EE license is the option for teams that need its support and advanced capabilities.

Platforms

Formbricks supports web, API, Android, iOS, and self-hosted deployment. Website, email, and in-app surveys cover several common feedback touchpoints, while the mobile SDKs are part of Pro. The platform breadth is useful for teams collecting feedback across products, though each additional channel can increase the work of coordinating surveys and responses.

Who it's for

Formbricks is a strong fit for organizations that want customer feedback across multiple channels and need to segment respondents or connect follow-up workflows. Its stated use cases span financial services, healthcare, e-commerce, nonprofits, government, market research, and retail. Smaller teams can start with Hobby, but its monthly response limit makes it a poor match for high-volume programs. Self-hosting best suits teams with capacity to maintain a multi-service deployment.

Pros and cons

Pros: Flexible survey tools on Hobby, including conditional logic, partial responses, file uploads, and single-use links.
Pros: Pro combines respondent segmentation with follow-ups, webhooks, mobile SDKs, translations, and named integrations.
Pros: Cloud and self-hosted deployment choices, with stated encryption, compliance certifications, annual penetration tests, and daily cloud backups.
Cons: Hobby is capped at 250 responses per month, and even Scale is capped at 5,000.
Cons: Self-hosted deployments require DIY setup and maintenance; the documented baseline includes eight long-running services.
Cons: Self-hosted free users receive community support rather than the prioritized support and updates included with the EE license.

Alternatives

Choose Fynzo Survey if unlimited surveys, questions, and responses on its free plan matter more than Formbricks’ self-hosting and segmentation options. Refiner is another freemium option, with a free tier capped at 25 survey responses per month.

Survicate offers a free plan with 25 responses per month, three teammates, and 300 responses across active surveys. Customer Thermometer is a paid alternative with monthly plans starting at 9.00 USD per month.

Mapster may suit a smaller web-only program: its free plan includes 50 responses per month, unlimited surveys, and all features. nps.today is a paid option with a one-month free trial.

SatisMeter offers a free tier with 25 responses per month. Wootric is a paid alternative with Professional and Voice of the Customer plans.

Verdict

Choose Formbricks if you need surveys across several channels, meaningful respondent segmentation, and a choice between cloud and self-hosting. Its breadth is the clearest reason to pick it, but the response caps and the operational burden of self-hosting are equally important constraints. Teams with high feedback volume or no capacity to maintain infrastructure should compare alternatives before committing.
