Overview

Soundstripe is a royalty-free licensing service for music, sound effects, and video. It suits creators and teams choosing sound for social content, client projects, advertising, or wider distribution. Its strongest case is the combination of music discovery and editing tools with licenses for different uses; the trade-off is that rights and download limits depend on the plan.

The catalog figures vary across the service: its homepage cites more than 116,000 tracks, while the Individual plan describes 58,000-plus original tracks and 115,000-plus sound effects. The catalog also includes video. Stems, alternate versions, and cut-downs give editors room to reshape a track, while client-work licensing and perpetual usage rights support projects that need more than personal use. Neither feature overrides the restrictions of the selected license.

Licensing is hybrid: users can choose subscriptions or one-time purchases. Personal licenses exclude commercial brand promotion and broadcast use; Pro and Pro Plus exclude broadcast distribution. Business use is limited to one designated market area.

Key features

Search and edit

Supe finds tracks from a described vibe, and reference-track search accepts links from Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music. That gives users both a mood-led route and a way to search around a known sound. Stems, alternate versions, and cut-downs help editors adapt selections to different cuts without settling for the first version of a track.

Collaboration and integrations

Shareable playlists and projects keep favorites together and support collaboration with teammates. Integrations include Adobe Premiere, Adobe Express, Frame.io, and Twitch. Soundstripe LIVE is a Mac app that watches timelines in Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve and suggests music, a useful fit for editors who want recommendations in their editing workflow. A mobile app supports finding music on the go.

API and support

The REST API provides search, metadata, streaming previews, and downloads. Developers can try it with a watermarked key valid for 30 days. Enterprise includes a dedicated account manager; support is also available at help@soundstripe.com and 855.224.0847.

Pricing

Soundstripe combines free access, monthly subscriptions, and one-time licenses. The right choice hinges on how the music will be used, not just the upfront price.

Twitch Free Extension: Free. It includes Twitch-cleared royalty-free music and curated playlists, a narrow starting point for Twitch users.
Twitch Pro Extension: 3.99 USD per month. Exclusive and custom playlists plus song shuffle add discovery options for Twitch users, but the plan is still centered on the extension.
Individual: 9.99 USD per month. It includes 58K+ original tracks, 115K+ sound effects, YouTube auto-clearance, and AI search. This is the entry subscription for creators who want music and effects alongside discovery tools.
Standard Music Licensing Plans: 19.99 USD per month. Twitch Pro, YouTube clearance, and 300+ curated playlists make this a broader subscription option than Individual.
Personal: 49.00 USD per once. The one-time purchase covers personal social media, personal blogs or websites, and personal life events. It is aimed at personal use, not brand promotion or broadcast.
Digital: 199.00 USD per once. Paid social and digital ads, podcasts, film festival submissions, client licensing, and indemnification make this a better fit for commercial digital projects than Personal.
Expanded: 399.00 USD per once, starting at $399. It covers internal company use, out-of-home advertising, industry events, client licensing, and indemnification.
All Media: 1249.00 USD per once, starting at $1249. It covers TV and radio, OTT/connected TV, theatrical releases, and national distribution for three months, with indemnification.
Business: custom pricing. It includes single-market coverage, up to 3 team seats, unlimited projects, playlists, and downloads, plus Adobe Premiere Pro and Express extensions. The market limit matters for brands seeking national or global coverage.
Enterprise: custom pricing. It targets national or global audiences and TV, streaming, film, and radio coverage, with indemnification and a dedicated account manager.

Subscriptions cap daily downloads at 50 song items, 50 video items, and 100 sound-effect items, subject to the content types included in a plan. The free plan and free trial are additional ways to start, but their terms are not described here. Personal is the cheapest one-time license, but its personal-use restrictions make it unsuitable for commercial promotion; broader commercial and distribution rights require a higher-tier license.

Platforms

Soundstripe supports Android, iOS, macOS, web, an API, and an extension. That spread accommodates mobile discovery, desktop workflows, browser use, and developer integrations, though the LIVE timeline-watching app is specifically for Mac.

Who it's for

Freelancers, podcasters, hobbyists, nonprofits, small businesses, brands, agencies, and media organizations are among the audiences its plans address. Individual creators can start with a monthly plan, while teams can use shared projects and playlists. Commercial advertisers and production companies should match the license to the distribution channel: Personal excludes brand promotion and broadcast, and Business only covers one designated market area.

Pros and cons

Pros

Multiple search paths: vibe-based AI search and reference links make the catalog approachable for both exploratory and deliberate searches.
Useful edit flexibility: stems, alternate versions, and cut-downs give creators more control over how tracks fit an edit.
Workflow options: integrations, the Mac timeline assistant, mobile app, and API serve different production setups.
License breadth: one-time options extend from personal projects to theatrical releases, while client licensing and perpetual usage rights support ongoing project needs.

Cons

Rights require careful matching: Personal excludes brand promotion and broadcast, Pro and Pro Plus exclude broadcast distribution, and Business is market-limited.
Subscription throughput is capped: daily item limits can constrain high-volume downloading even when a plan includes the relevant content type.
License tiers vary substantially: the one-time Personal option cannot substitute for the broader Digital, Expanded, or All Media use cases.
Privacy policy currency: the policy describes encryption in transit and access restrictions, but was last updated June 12, 2023.

Alternatives

Stock Music Libraries is a useful comparison point for readers weighing music-library services more broadly.

Epidemic Sound is worth comparing for creators seeking a paid music service with a free trial and a Creator plan for one monetized channel per platform.
Sonoton is an option for radio and TV commissioned productions, which can be generally free when the broadcaster has a GEMA contract and usage is notified.
TuneTank suits creators looking for a free entry point with three monthly downloads, or a Pro plan with unlimited music and sound effects.
Uppbeat is another freemium choice, with three free downloads for individual use on a creator's own channels.
Bensound offers a free license for selected music tracks with attribution, suited to online videos accessible free of charge.
Melody Loops has free non-commercial tracks requiring credit; commercial or monetized projects need an appropriate license.
Artlist Music is a paid alternative with a trial and a Music & SFX Social plan that includes music, stems, sound effects, and a Premiere Pro extension.

Verdict

Soundstripe is a strong choice for creators and production teams who want a broad set of music-search, editing, and collaboration tools alongside licenses ranging from personal projects to major distribution. Choose it when that workflow and license range suit the project; look elsewhere or move to a broader tier if broadcast, national reach, or a high download volume is central to the work.
