Overview

Geektastic is a technical assessment service for teams hiring software engineers, particularly those that want expert evaluation of take-home code. Its mix of brief screening and deeper submissions is useful across hiring stages, but teams need to budget for per-candidate and per-review charges beyond the free Express allowance.

Key features

Express challenges take about 30 minutes and use multiple-choice questions; take-home challenges take around two hours. Express is the lighter candidate commitment for an initial screen, while take-home work gives reviewers code to assess in depth but demands more time from applicants.

A human review team evaluates take-home submissions and provides detailed feedback. Geektastic aims to return reviews within 24 hours, with high volumes sometimes extending that to 48 hours. This gives hiring teams an external assessment resource, though each review carries its own fee. Teams can also submit their own challenges for platform migration and review against tailored guidelines, a useful option when a standard task does not fit the role.

Supported areas span JavaScript, Java, PHP, Python, C#, Swift, Android, AWS, Terraform, Ansible and CI/CD. Greenhouse, Lever and Workable integrations let teams invite candidates and handle results through their ATS, but the integration has a separate monthly price. Geektastic says its reviews are anonymous, and that it is GDPR compliant, uses SSL encryption and does not store passwords in plain text. All plans include 24/7 support.

Pricing

The free Express plan is free and includes 50 assessed candidates per month and two seats. Additional candidates cost 3.00 USD per once, billed per candidate after the monthly allowance; extra Express seats cost 50.00 USD per once, with two seats included. The free tier is a practical way to screen at modest volume, but usage beyond 50 candidates is not included.

For take-home assessments, the platform fee is 350.00 USD per month when using the platform, including two seats; code reviewers are free. Each expert take-home review costs 95.00 USD per once. Geektastic also charges 70.00 USD per month per challenge for a library challenge licence, plus 7 USD each use. These separate recurring and per-use costs make this route better suited to teams that need reviewed submissions than those seeking a predictable, all-inclusive assessment price.

Custom options include porting an Express challenge for 65.00 USD per once or creating a bespoke Express challenge for 195.00 USD per once. The ATS integration costs 130.00 USD per month. Extra take-home admin seats are 50.00 USD per once; two seats are included in the monthly platform fee. The pricing model is freemium, with a free trial also offered. The listed charges do not state trial length or renewal terms.

Platforms

Geektastic is available on web and through an API. The API option may suit teams incorporating assessments into existing hiring workflows; the web platform supports direct use.

Who it's for

Geektastic fits hiring teams that recruit software engineers and want either a short multiple-choice screen or expert review of take-home work. Its ATS connections and custom challenge service are particularly relevant to teams with established workflows or role-specific assessment needs. It is less compelling for teams that need large candidate volumes at no per-candidate cost, or that cannot justify a monthly platform fee alongside per-review charges.

Pros and cons

Pros

Two assessment formats let teams choose between a roughly 30-minute screen and a deeper take-home exercise.
Human review with detailed feedback and an intended 24-hour turnaround reduces the burden of evaluating submitted code internally.
Custom challenge porting and tailored review guidelines support role-specific hiring needs.
Greenhouse, Lever and Workable integrations connect invitations and results to ATS workflows.

Cons

The free Express allowance stops at 50 candidates per month; additional candidates are charged individually.
Take-home use combines a 350.00 USD per month platform fee with a 95.00 USD per-review charge.
The ATS integration adds 130.00 USD per month, and extra admin or recruiter seats carry separate fees.
A take-home challenge takes around two hours, a significant time commitment for candidates.

Alternatives

Coding Assessment Platforms and Pre-Employment Assessment Software are broader directories for comparing options across these categories.

Choose Savyre if an IDE-based workflow matters: its free plan offers limited assessment invites from VS Code and Cursor, with an IDE and Git repository approach.

TalentsAccess is another freemium web option, with a free Starter tier for up to 50 monthly assessments, MCQ and coding challenges in 40+ languages, basic webcam AI proctoring and email support.

CodeInterview may suit teams prioritizing interviews: its free tier allows two interviews per month, unlimited users and all languages and frameworks, with web, API and extension access.

CodeSignal is worth considering for individual skills development, with a free Individuals plan covering practice-based learning, personalized paths, bite-sized modules and a skills profile.

HackerRank offers a paid Starter plan at 165.00 USD per month, billed as $1,990 billed annually, for one user, screening and interviews, 2,000+ questions and 120 attempts per year; additional attempts cost $20 each.

CodePanion is another web option.

CoderScreen has a free Basic tier with three live interviews and five assessment invites renewing monthly, one team member, interview playback and community support.

HackerEarth Assessments offers a free plan with five test invites, three interview invites and two admins; unused invites do not carry over.

Verdict

Geektastic is a strong fit for hiring teams that need expert, detailed feedback on engineering take-home work or want ATS-connected screening with custom challenges. The main reason to choose it is the combination of multiple-choice screening and human-reviewed code submissions. Look elsewhere if the monthly take-home platform charge, per-review costs or candidate-volume fees do not fit your hiring scale or budget.
