Overview

Termalin is a multi-purpose SSH client for people who manage remote hosts alongside files, databases, and AI-agent workflows. It is most compelling for users who want those jobs in one workspace; the trade-off is a broader, paid product where a standalone terminal may be all some users need.

Terminal sessions, file browsers, a 13-engine database client, and an MCP server make Termalin more than a connection window. A free plan covers core SSH and SFTP work, while cloud sync and several collaboration and agent features sit on paid plans.

Key features

Terminal, files, and databases

Termalin's xterm-256color terminal combines tabs, a hosts sidebar, snippets, and session restoration with scrollback. That is a practical setup for recurring remote work, especially when connections and commands need to stay organized. SFTP, FTP, and S3 browsers, a built-in editor, and a dual-pane file manager extend the same workspace to file transfers and edits.

The database client supports 13 engines, including PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQLite, MongoDB, Redis, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, Cassandra/ScyllaDB, Neo4j, InfluxDB, RabbitMQ, SQL Server, and Cloudflare D1. That breadth is useful for people moving among varied data stores, though it matters less to users who only need SSH.

Agent workflows and browser access

The built-in MCP server lets compatible agents open sessions, run commands, and read or write files over SFTP. Agents can also join live sessions while the user watches. Termalin documents integrations for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, and other MCP-capable agents through local or hosted MCP. This is a notable reason to consider Termalin for agent-assisted operations, but it is not a compelling differentiator for people who do not use agents.

The web cabinet provides terminal, SFTP, FTP, and S3 browsing, plus recording replay, from a laptop, phone, or tablet without installing the app. For private servers, the Connector dials out rather than requiring an inbound port; it uses short-lived certificates and keeps the agent blind to SSH bytes.

Security and recordings

Vault data is encrypted on the device before synchronization using a master-password-derived PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 key and AES-256-GCM. Accounts support TOTP with backup codes and passkeys, and SSH host keys are pinned on first use. Recordings preserve terminal output and event markers rather than raw keystrokes, and hidden-prompt passwords are not echoed into them.

Termalin says data minimisation and account and data deletion on request are shipped. An independent penetration test is planned, and SOC 2 is on the roadmap, so organizations requiring either completed assurance should not treat them as established credentials. Enterprise includes an SLA, priority support, a dedicated manager, migration, and onboarding; vulnerability reports are acknowledged within three working days.

Pricing

Termalin has a free plan, paid plans from $8/user/mo (annual), and a 14-day trial. The free tier is unusually broad for an entry point: it includes SSH and SFTP, a local encrypted vault, session recording and replay, a watch grid, the 13-engine database client, and MCP agent access. It does not include the cloud vault, device and snippet sync, command automation, cloud recordings, or agent live-session access reserved for Pro.

Pro costs 8.00 USD per month, billed yearly. It adds those cloud and automation features to everything in Free, making it the plan for an individual who needs synced settings or cloud recordings. Team costs 15.00 USD per month, billed yearly, and adds a shared team vault, session sharing, collaboration, roles and permissions, and consolidated billing. Those additions suit teams coordinating access; users who only need an individual workspace can stay on Free or Pro.

Enterprise has custom pricing and adds multiple vaults, granular access, agent governance, and the support and onboarding package. The Beta founders — Pro, for life plan costs 149.00 USD per month, is limited to the beta, and includes lifetime Pro access and all future Pro features. Its price and limited availability make it a distinct offer rather than a straightforward alternative to standard Pro billing.

Platforms

Termalin lists Windows, macOS, and Linux as supported platforms, alongside API, iOS, and web platform categories. Its browser cabinet is the option for laptop, phone, or tablet access without installing the app. On Windows, the .exe is not code-signed yet and may trigger a SmartScreen unknown-publisher warning; the Microsoft Store build is signed.

Who it's for

Termalin is a strong fit for administrators and developers who routinely combine SSH, file transfers, database work, and agent assistance, particularly when keeping these workflows in one client is valuable. The free tier also makes it a reasonable starting point for individuals who want to try that combined approach without paying. It is less suited to someone who wants only a terminal, or to organizations that require completed independent security testing or SOC 2.

Pros and cons

Pros: Free includes SSH, SFTP, recordings, a 13-engine database client, and MCP agent access, giving individuals substantial functionality without a subscription.
Pros: Terminal, file, database, and agent workflows share one client, reducing the need to move among separate tools for those tasks.
Pros: Device-side vault encryption, host-key pinning, and recordings that omit raw keystrokes and hidden-prompt passwords address meaningful security and privacy concerns.
Cons: Cloud vault, sync, command automation, cloud recordings, and live-session agent access require Pro or above.
Cons: Pro and Team are billed yearly, so their monthly prices do not represent a month-to-month term.
Cons: The Windows executable can prompt a SmartScreen warning until code signing is in place, although the Store build is signed.
Cons: Independent penetration testing is planned and SOC 2 is on the roadmap, which may rule it out for organizations needing those assurances now.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, see Terminal Emulators. Contour is a free option for Linux, macOS, and Windows users who want a terminal emulator rather than Termalin's combined SSH, file, database, and agent workspace. MobaXterm is a Windows-only alternative: its Home Edition has limits of 12 sessions, 2 SSH tunnels, 4 macros, and 360 seconds for TFTP, NFS, and Cron, while Professional Edition costs 69.00 USD per year.

Warp offers a free plan for developers with core terminal features and Warp Agent CLI access, making it an option when those terminal capabilities matter more than Termalin's file and database breadth. Tabby is a free FOSS alternative for users seeking a free, open-source terminal emulator. Hyper is another free terminal option. WezTerm offers open-source software under the MIT License, including pre-built releases or the option to build from source. Ghostty is a free, open-source choice for Linux and macOS users who do not need a dedicated support team. Konsole is a free and open-source terminal application.

Verdict

Choose Termalin if your work regularly crosses SSH, file management, databases, and AI agents, and you value bringing those tasks into one client. Its free plan makes that combined workflow accessible, while Pro adds the sync and cloud features many individuals will want. Look elsewhere if you need only a terminal, if annual billing is a poor fit, or if your organization requires independent security testing or SOC 2 already in place.
