Overview

Middleware brings infrastructure, application, and user-experience monitoring into one observability platform, with AI-assisted issue investigation for teams that want a broader operational view. It suits organizations consolidating signals across their stack, but teams should weigh its usage-based charges and free-tier retention against their data needs.

Key features

Monitoring and issue response

The product range spans infrastructure monitoring, logs, APM, metrics, distributed tracing, database monitoring, RUM, synthetic monitoring, browser testing, and LLM observability. Transaction tracing, dependency mapping, and log correlation add useful connections between application activity, components, and logs. That breadth can reduce the need to assemble separate monitoring products; teams looking for only one narrow capability may not need such a wide platform.

Middleware's AI SRE Agent is intended to help detect and resolve issues. Its OpsAI capabilities include root cause analysis, automatic issue detection, faster issue solving, and automatic PR generation. These functions make the platform relevant to teams seeking help moving from detection toward remediation, though the free plan's token allowance may constrain heavier use.

Integrations, deployment, and security

Middleware advertises more than 450 built-in integrations covering application monitoring, cloud, containers, databases, infrastructure and operating systems, networking, notifications, streaming, and telemetry. That range is a practical advantage for teams working across varied systems. The platform uses a hybrid deployment model, and its documentation provides a Public API.

Middleware says customer data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2+ and at rest with AES-256. Its security practices include regular penetration testing and vulnerability assessments, as well as network firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention, and traffic filtering. These are meaningful safeguards for monitoring data, although organizations should assess them against their own requirements.

Pricing

Middleware uses a freemium model, with a free plan, paid usage from $0.30 per month, and a 14-day trial. The usage-based structure can suit workloads that vary, but teams should estimate their consumption rather than treating the entry price as a predictable monthly total.

Free Forever

At 0.00 USD per free, Free Forever allows up to 100GB of data, 1k RUM sessions, 20k synthetic checks, 10 browser test runs, and 2 million OpsAI tokens. It includes unlimited users and community based support. Fourteen-day retention is a substantial constraint for teams that need longer investigation windows or historical comparisons; the quotas also make this best for evaluation or modest workloads rather than assuming unrestricted use.

Pay As You Go

Pay As You Go costs 0.30 USD per month and charges only for what you use. RUM sessions cost $1 per 1K, synthetic checks $1 per 5K, and browser test runs $10 per 1K. It includes default 30-day retention, SSO and security features, and a dedicated Slack/MS Teams channel. This is the more suitable choice when free-tier retention or capacity is insufficient, but usage-based charges mean total cost depends on consumption. Accounts can be cancelled anytime, with data retained for 30 days after cancellation for download.

BYOC

BYOC has custom pricing, with volume and multi-year contract discounts, bring-your-own-cloud deployment, custom data retention, 24x7 support, and a dedicated account team. It fits organizations that need those deployment, retention, or support terms; its custom pricing makes it a different commitment from the self-serve tiers.

Platforms

Middleware supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, web, and API. Its hybrid deployment model gives it scope beyond a single operating environment.

Who it's for

Middleware is a strong candidate for organizations that want infrastructure, application, and user monitoring together, especially when broad integrations and AI-assisted issue analysis matter. Smaller teams can begin with unlimited users on the free plan, but its 14-day retention and fixed usage caps may not support sustained or data-heavy monitoring. Teams needing longer retention, dedicated support, or bring-your-own-cloud deployment should consider the paid tiers.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad coverage from infrastructure and logs to RUM, synthetic monitoring, and LLM observability keeps multiple operational signals within one platform.
Pros: More than 450 integrations and tracing, dependency mapping, and log correlation help connect data across a varied stack.
Pros: Unlimited users on Free Forever avoids a seat cap for teams evaluating the platform together.
Cons: Free Forever retains data for only 14 days and caps several usage categories, limiting its fit for long investigations or larger workloads.
Cons: Pay As You Go charges vary with use, so the $0.30 per month price does not by itself establish a predictable total.
Cons: Free-tier support is community based; dedicated account support and 24x7 coverage are reserved for BYOC.

Alternatives

For a different observability platform or deployment fit, consider these options:

Uptrace has a free cloud plan with 50 GB free per month, then $0.075/GB, and supports self-hosted deployment.
Honeycomb offers a free plan capped at 20M events per month and 100M metrics data points per month, with two triggers.
SigNoz offers a free self-hosted community option, with infrastructure, storage, scaling, upgrades, and backups managed by the user.
groundcover has a free plan with 12-hour data retention, a Slack community, and BYOC.
Grafana Cloud Application Observability has an always-free plan with 2,232 host hours.
Elastic Observability is a paid option with a free plan and trial.
New Relic Kubernetes Monitoring offers a free plan and a Pro plan at 349.00 USD per year for annual commitments.
Apache SkyWalking is a free, open-source observability platform for self-hosted deployment.

Verdict

Choose Middleware if you want one platform spanning infrastructure, application, and user monitoring, with integrations and AI-assisted investigation to connect the operational picture. Its strongest case is breadth; look elsewhere if your priority is longer free retention, fixed predictable costs, or a narrower monitoring tool without usage-based charges.
