Overview

WebPurify has provided moderation services since 2007 and serves customers from individual bloggers to Fortune 500 companies. CMS plugins give smaller sites a route into text moderation, while API access, dedicated infrastructure and self-hosting support more tailored deployments. The trade-off is that the product is not one uniform service: text and image plans have different pricing and terms, and dedicated human teams need advance preparation.

Key features

Text moderation and integrations

The profanity filter supports 15 languages and lets customers maintain custom block and allow lists. That is useful for communities with their own vocabulary rules; offensive intent detection, however, requires a custom plan. WordPress, Drupal and Joomla plugins fit sites built on those CMSs, while web and mobile applications can integrate through the API.

All three monthly text plans allow unlimited submissions, but cap simultaneous requests per license: one on Plugins, two on Standard and four on Enterprise. That distinction matters more than the submission allowance for services that need many requests processed at once. Custom dedicated servers or self-hosting remove the simultaneous-request cap, at custom pricing.

Image, video and human review

Image checks can use AI, human moderation or a hybrid workflow. WebPurify says AI checks average about 250 milliseconds; standard human review typically takes about two minutes, with a stated maximum of five minutes. That gives teams a choice between faster automated screening and human judgment, with hybrid review as a middle path. A dedicated human team trained on a customer's guidelines for explicit images takes three to four weeks to prepare, so it is not an immediate solution for a new policy.

The service also covers user-generated videos and live streams, along with audio and generative AI content. WebPurify says image content submitted for review is not retained on its servers and that it does not store customer data. Its human moderators undergo background checks and work in keycard-secured environments with a clean desk policy and anti-screengrab software, safeguards relevant to customers routing sensitive images through human review.

Pricing

Text plans start at $5.00 USD per month for Plugins, rise to $15.00 USD per month for Standard and $50.00 USD per month for Enterprise. Text plans include a 14-day free trial with full feature access and no credit card required. There is no free plan for the text service.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes	Best fit
Plugins	5.00 USD per month, billed monthly	1 simultaneous request, unlimited submissions, 1 domain or IP, 0 subdomains, 1 language, CMS plugins and email support	Small CMS sites that need basic text filtering and can work within one language and one concurrent request.
Standard	15.00 USD per month, billed monthly	2 simultaneous requests, unlimited submissions, 1 domain or IP, 2 subdomains, 1 language, full API access, and email, phone and URL filtering	Web or mobile applications needing API access and additional filtering beyond CMS plugins.
Enterprise	50.00 USD per month, billed monthly	4 simultaneous requests, unlimited submissions, 6 domains or IPs, 12 subdomains, multiple languages, regional endpoints, SSL encryption and advanced reporting; email support	Organizations managing several properties or requiring multiple languages and regional endpoints.
Custom Dedicated Servers or Host it Yourself	Custom pricing; billed by contacting sales	Unlimited simultaneous requests and submissions, unlimited domains or IPs, multiple languages, offensive intent detection, and dedicated infrastructure or self-hosting; 24x7 email and premium SLA support	Teams that need uncapped text throughput, custom detection or control over deployment.

Image pricing separates the automated and human routes. WebPurify AIM costs 0.00 USD per once, billed per image, and includes AI categories, real-time results, API access and email support. Live Moderation costs 0.02 USD per once, billed per photo, and includes turnkey criteria, results within five minutes, API access and email support. The image offer includes 100 free photo moderations without a contract or credit card, a modest trial for evaluating that workflow rather than sustained volume.

Platforms

WebPurify supports Android, iOS, web, API and self-hosted deployments. The combination of mobile and web API integration with CMS plugins gives it options for both app teams and site operators, while self-hosting is tied to the custom plan rather than the low-cost monthly tiers.

Who it's for

WebPurify is a sensible fit for sites that want multilingual text filtering, CMS-specific plugins or API integration, and for platforms that need human or hybrid image review alongside automated checks. The monthly text plans suit workloads that can stay within their concurrent-request limits. Teams with heavier concurrency needs, custom intent rules or deployment requirements should consider custom pricing; organizations that need a dedicated human team must allow three to four weeks for policy training.

Pros and cons

Pros: Text moderation supports 15 languages and custom block and allow lists, making it adaptable to community-specific rules.
Pros: Image workflows span AI, human and hybrid review, with a 100-photo trial and published response-time expectations.
Pros: CMS plugins, API access and self-hosted deployment accommodate different technical setups.
Cons: Monthly text tiers limit simultaneous requests to one, two or four, despite unlimited submissions.
Cons: Offensive intent detection and uncapped text concurrency require a custom plan, so the entry-level prices do not cover every capability.
Cons: Dedicated human teams need three to four weeks of training, which can delay a bespoke moderation workflow.

Alternatives

Sightengine is a better fit for buyers who want a freemium API/web option: its free plan allows 1 req/s, while the Starter plan costs 29.00 USD per month for 10,000 operations per month plus $0.002 per additional operation. Its free tier does not support video processing or live streams.

Google Cloud Vision API is worth considering when a buyer prefers a freemium API service across Linux, macOS, web and Windows; its pay-as-you-go plan bills per image and each feature applied to an image counts as a billable unit.

CleanSpeak is an option for teams seeking a custom cloud or self-hosted solution, with startup and nonprofit discounts available.

Hive Moderation is an alternative for developers looking for access to more than 10 models and selected-model pay-as-you-go pricing, with $50+ in free credits after adding a payment method.

Moderation API may suit teams that want a freemium option with a defined Basic tier: 79.00 USD per month for 10,000 messages, video and audio moderation, three team members and email support, with additional usage at $2.50 per 1,000 messages.

Besedo is worth comparing for a trial that covers 10,000 pieces of moderated content each month, unlimited users, a RESTful HTTP API, moderation, automation and analytics.

Amazon Rekognition Content Moderation is an alternative for buyers considering a paid API service with a free tier lasting 12 months from account creation.

Llama Guard is a free self-hosted alternative for teams willing to work with the 8B model weights.

Verdict

Choose WebPurify if you need moderation across several content formats and want a practical choice of text filtering, automated image checks and human review. Its CMS plugins, APIs and multiple image workflows make it adaptable, while clear per-month text tiers offer a low-cost start. Look elsewhere if your standard plan must support high concurrent text traffic, or if you need a dedicated human team immediately; the former requires custom pricing, and the latter requires several weeks of preparation.
