Overview

HammerAI is a character-chat and roleplay platform with creative tools alongside conversation. It is best suited to people who want to build stories around characters and choose between cloud AI and models running on a desktop. Its local-model support is a meaningful point of distinction, while cloud use brings daily or subscription-credit limits and third-party processing considerations.

Users can chat with characters, write stories, generate images, join group chats, and build lorebooks and personas. Persistent memory is a feature, and the desktop app supports local models through Ollama and Llama.cpp; Ollama support covers more than 20 LLMs and allows users to supply a Modelfile.

HammerAI sits within the broader AI Roleplay Chatbots category, with its combination of local models and story-building tools especially relevant to users who want more than hosted character chat.

Key features

Character chat and creative work: Chat, story writing, image generation, and group chat give roleplay users several ways to develop a scenario. Image generation and other cloud services need an internet connection.
Lorebooks and personas: These tools support organizing fictional worlds and characters, making HammerAI a better fit for users building ongoing scenarios than for those seeking chat alone.
Local model choice: The desktop app runs local models with Ollama and Llama.cpp. Ollama supports more than 20 LLMs and custom Modelfiles, providing flexibility for users prepared to manage a desktop model setup.
Privacy and connectivity: HammerAI says it does not collect conversation information or use user content to train or fine-tune its models. Chats and characters are stored on-device by default in mobile apps. Messages sent to third-party AI providers may be processed or retained by those providers. Downloaded local models can work offline, but cloud LLMs, image generation, and text-to-speech require internet.
Content and age controls: The service is intended for users at least 18 or the local age of consent, whichever is greater, and filters content including self-harm encouragement, graphic violence, and hate speech.

Pricing

HammerAI uses a freemium model. The free tier is free and includes 600 cloud messages per day, an 8,192-token context, two cloud LLMs, local LLMs, and an LLM API proxy. That is a substantial daily allowance for casual use, but the daily message cap and smaller context and cloud-model selection distinguish it from subscriptions.

Subscriptions bill monthly and add credits for image generation or text-to-speech, unlimited cloud messages, larger context windows, and access to more cloud LLMs. Starter costs 9.00 USD per month and includes 1,500 credits/month, up to 150 images or 300 TTS, a 16,384-token context, and four cloud LLMs. It suits regular users who need more than the free message cap. Advanced costs 18.00 USD per month, with 3,500 credits/month, up to 350 images or 700 TTS, a 32,768-token context, and seven cloud LLMs. Ultimate costs 35.00 USD per month and raises those allowances to 9,000 credits/month, up to 900 images or 1,800 TTS, a 65,536-token context, and 14 cloud LLMs. The higher tiers are most relevant to users who need larger contexts, more provider choice, or substantially more monthly credits.

One-time credit packs provide an alternative to a subscription: Tiny costs 1.99 USD per once for 200 credits; Small costs 4.99 USD per once for 600; Medium costs 9.99 USD per once for 1,300; Large costs 19.99 USD per once for 3,000; Mega costs 49.99 USD per once for 8,500; and Ultra costs 99.99 USD per once for 20,000. Each pack can be used for the stated image or TTS allowance, and purchased credits never expire. By contrast, subscription credits expire at the end of each billing period and do not roll over. Packs suit occasional creative use; subscriptions better fit steady cloud chat and recurring credit needs.

Platforms

HammerAI is available on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, the web, and Windows. Desktop packages include macOS Apple Silicon and Windows, plus Linux Debian, Flatpak, and RPM versions. Mobile apps for iOS and Android store chats and characters on-device by default. The desktop app is the relevant choice for offline local-model use after downloading models; cloud LLMs, image generation, and text-to-speech remain internet-dependent.

Who it's for

HammerAI suits roleplay writers and character-chat users who want creative tools, persistent memory, and a choice between cloud services and desktop local models. It also fits users who value keeping mobile chats and characters on-device by default. It is less suitable for anyone under the stated minimum age, or for users who require offline access to cloud models, images, or text-to-speech.

Pros and cons

Pro: Desktop local-model support includes Ollama and Llama.cpp, more than 20 Ollama LLMs, and custom Modelfiles, giving technically comfortable users meaningful choice.
Pro: Local models can work offline after download, and mobile chats and characters are stored on-device by default.
Pro: The free tier offers 600 cloud messages a day and also includes local LLMs and an API proxy.
Con: Free cloud use has a daily cap, while its context and cloud-model count are below the paid tiers.
Con: Subscription credits expire monthly, so unused image or TTS allowance does not carry forward.
Con: Cloud providers may process or retain messages sent to them, and several creative features require internet access.

Verdict

HammerAI is a strong choice for character-chat and roleplay users who want story-building tools and the option to run local models, including offline desktop use. Its free daily cloud allowance makes it accessible, but users who rely on cloud features should weigh the subscription tiers, expiring monthly credits, and third-party provider processing. Look elsewhere if you need cloud features offline or prefer a simpler free plan without a daily message cap.
