Overview

Describe a style, mood, or theme and each prompt produces two songs. You can generate clips of 32 seconds or 2 minutes 10 seconds, which is also the maximum track length. That is useful for hooks and compact ideas, but limits work that needs a longer composition in one piece.

The Create page provides sliders and fields for refining tracks, experimenting, and generating variations. Search, filters, favorites, playlists, and a trash bin help keep the library manageable, and the player can share songs. Together, these tools make Udio more useful for iterating on an idea than a simple prompt-and-play generator.

Key features

Udio supports vocal generation and audio uploads. Paid subscribers can extend, inpaint, remix, stylize, or edit uploaded audio in a waveform-centric Session editor. Those tools offer multiple ways to reshape source material, but uploads must be audio you own: commercial or copyrighted tracks are not allowed.

The iPhone app is substantially narrower than the web workflow. It supports track extension, but not audio uploads, remixing, inpainting, styling, or searching for songs by title. Udio has no Android app, so Android users are limited to the web experience.

Downloads of audio, video, and stems are disabled, and Udio does not offer stem export. That sharply limits Udio as a production or delivery tool, even for paid subscribers; its strongest use is developing and sharing ideas within the service.

Pricing

Udio has a free plan and two paid monthly plans. The free plan is free and includes 10 daily credits, 100 monthly credits, and up to three 130-second songs per day. It is enough to explore the workflow, but the daily song cap and disabled downloads make it less suited to sustained production.

Standard costs 10.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes up to 2,400 credits per month. It is the entry point for paid creation tools, including audio editing in the Session editor, but it does not remove the download or stem-export limits.

Pro costs 30.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes up to 6,000 credits per month and up to 10 concurrent songs. The larger quota and concurrency suit people generating many variations; those limits matter less if you only develop ideas occasionally.

One free Standard subscription trial lasts up to seven days. It does not raise credit limits and allows no more than three 2-minute songs per day. Unless canceled, it is charged at the annual price unless you change it to monthly, so check the renewal choice before starting.

Platforms

Udio is available on the web and iPhone. The web version is the better choice for users who need uploads and the full set of audio-editing actions; the iPhone app is useful for extending tracks, but lacks several of those tools and title search. There is no Android app.

Who it's for

Udio is best for songwriters and creators who want to generate vocal ideas, refine them with adjustable controls, and organize or share work in a library. The free tier gives newcomers a way to try short generations, while Standard or Pro makes more sense for regular creation and paid editing. Look elsewhere if your workflow depends on downloadable files, stems, longer single-track generations, or a full mobile editing experience.

Pros and cons

Pros: Generates two songs per prompt, with vocal generation and adjustable controls for trying variations.
Pros: Paid subscribers can extend, remix, inpaint, stylize, and edit owned audio in the Session editor.
Pros: The library includes playlists, favorites, search, filters, and recovery of deleted songs.
Cons: Audio, video, and stem downloads are disabled, and stem export is unavailable.
Cons: The 2-minute-10-second maximum track length rules out longer single generations.
Cons: The iPhone app lacks uploads and several editing tools, and there is no Android app.

Alternatives

Treblo is worth considering if downloads or stem separation are priorities: its free plan includes unlimited songs and generation, inpainting, extending, and stem separation, with downloads in multiple formats. Suno is another freemium option with Android and iOS apps; its free plan includes 50 credits per day and 8 minutes of audio upload.

Eleven Music offers a web-based free plan with 10,000 credits per month for personal use. MusicWave.ai has a web free plan with 10 credits on signup, streaming-only access, and personal use. Ailume offers free credits for personal, non-commercial use, with attribution potentially required.

SongUp AI has a free plan with three instant songs for personal use. CAVN AI has a free plan with 10 daily renewing credits, about four songs, and two concurrent generations, and supports Android, iOS, web, and API. Wubble is another freemium option.

Verdict

Choose Udio if you want a flexible prompt-based workflow for developing short vocal song ideas, especially on the web, and can keep your work inside the service. Its paid editing tools add useful ways to reshape audio, but disabled downloads and absent stem export are decisive reasons to look elsewhere when finished, portable files are part of the job.
