Overview

HiPDF is an online PDF toolkit for converting, editing and organizing documents, with OCR and AI features alongside its core tools. It suits people who want several PDF tasks in one browser-based service. Its breadth is useful, but the free converter’s smaller file cap and the paid plans’ differing AI allowances make plan choice important.

Key features

Conversion and document work

HiPDF converts files to PDF and PDFs to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Pages, images, HTML and text. Its broader format support includes DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, EPUB, RTF and Publisher. OCR can turn scanned PDFs into editable Word documents, and batch processing helps when several files need the same kind of work. That mix is more useful for varied document workflows than a converter limited to one or two formats.

Other tools cover editing, merging, compression, splitting, image extraction, page rearrangement, protection, unlocking, redaction, signing and sharing. A DOC-to-PDF workflow can open files from Dropbox or cloud storage and save converted PDFs to the cloud. Paid plans cap files at 100 MB and 2,000 pages per file, so very large documents may still need another workflow.

AI, API and privacy

HiPDF’s AI tools include Chat with PDF, translation, proofreading, AI detection, mind maps, reading, rewriting, explanations and question answering. They make the service more than a conversion utility, but annual plans differ substantially in their AI-use quotas. The API has subscription and prepaid options, with custom or high-volume plans available by quote; the monthly API subscription is $28.00 USD per month, and its page says the first 200 files per month are free for monthly and annual subscribers.

HiPDF says uploaded files are permanently deleted within 60 minutes after processing. It also says it is a PDF Association member and cites ISO 27001 and SSI SECURE certifications. Those claims may matter to users handling sensitive documents, though they do not replace an organization’s own security review.

Pricing

HiPDF has a free tier and paid plans. The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and offers limited access to most PDF and image tools; the converter page sets a 20 MB file limit. It is suitable for occasional, smaller conversions, but not a strong fit for routine large-file work.

Basic costs 39.95 USD per year, billed annually. It includes web access, OCR and batch processing, with a 100 MB file cap and 2,000 pages per file. One pricing entry gives the Basic plan 50 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 50 AI Detector uses; another describes the annual Basic plan without those AI allowances, so buyers should confirm the applicable quota before subscribing. At this price, it is the more restrained paid option for users who mainly need conversion and document processing.

Advanced costs 69.95 USD per year, billed annually. It includes the Basic features and AI PDF tools; the annual plan specifies 1,000 Chat with PDF/AI Reader uses and 1,000 AI Detector uses. It is the better fit for regular AI-assisted PDF work, while the extra annual cost is harder to justify if conversion and OCR are the main needs.

The AI Monthly plan costs 3.99 USD per month, billed monthly, and includes web access and 1,000 uses. It renews automatically, with cancellation available at any time. This is a lower-commitment way to use AI tools, but it does not include the stated OCR and batch-processing bundle of the annual plans.

HiPDF also offers Basic 7-Day Access for 0.95 USD per once. After 7 days, it automatically renews at US$ 39.95 per year; it includes 2,000 pages, 100 MB files, unlimited batch processing, and PDF editing and download tools. Advanced 7-Day Access costs 1.95 USD per once and, after 7 days, automatically renews at US$ 69.95 per year; it adds Chat with PDF, AI Reader and AI Detector to the Basic features. These are short paid access periods, not free trials, so the renewal terms deserve attention before purchase. API customers can choose the $28.00 USD monthly subscription or seek a quote for custom or high-volume needs.

Platforms

The service is available on the web, with platform listings also naming Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, browser extension and API access. The conversion experience is explicitly online, which suits people who prefer not to install a desktop converter.

Who it's for

HiPDF is a sensible choice for individuals or teams that regularly convert, OCR, edit and batch-process PDFs and want optional AI tools in the same service. It is less suited to occasional users whose files often exceed the free 20 MB limit, or to high-volume buyers who need confirmed quotas and custom terms before committing.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad conversion coverage, OCR and batch processing handle more than basic format changes.
Pros: Editing, organization and AI tools bring several PDF tasks into one online service.
Pros: The 60-minute deletion statement and cited security credentials are useful considerations for document handling.
Cons: Free conversion is limited to files up to 20 MB, while paid plans cap files at 100 MB and 2,000 pages.
Cons: AI allowances vary by plan, and the Basic plan’s stated AI quotas differ across pricing entries.
Cons: The low-cost 7-day access offers automatically renew at annual prices unless canceled.

Alternatives

Choose LightPDF if its free web plan’s 10 MB file cap and three AI Agent questions per day match lighter needs. Consider PDF4me Merge & Split for API work where a limited free tier needs no credit card or a one-time 500-call pack is preferable. PDF Candy is another freemium option, though its free web and desktop plan has page and hourly restrictions, limited file size and no batch processing.

PDF24 Compare PDF is a free alternative with no limits, registration or time restrictions. Smallpdf may suit users who want a free tier with 30 tools and a 7-day free trial. AvePDF offers 50-plus document tools on its free plan, with two processing operations per six hours, a 128 MB maximum file size and up to 10 files per processing. DoKit is another freemium web option. PDFgear is a free alternative whose online editor allows PDFs up to 100 MB.

Verdict

HiPDF is a strong fit for people who want conversion, OCR, batch processing and document editing together, with AI available when the workload calls for it. Its main advantage is the range of work covered in one online service; its main reason to look elsewhere is the combination of file caps, plan-specific AI quotas and renewal terms that can complicate choosing the right paid tier.
