Overview

Riipen connects colleges and universities, employers, nonprofits, and learners through project work tied to academic programs. It suits institutions that want to coordinate employer projects and measure learning outcomes, while organizations can access student talent without paying platform fees.

Its strongest case is bringing project coordination and outcome reporting into one workflow; institutions should confirm that its LMS connections fit their environment.

Key features

Project coordination

Educators can publish course-related experiences to a marketplace, find projects, onboard learners, assign teams, and reuse experiences in later terms. Employers can post projects, match with educator-led experiences, and manage communication, deliverables, learners, and feedback. Milestones, deadlines, agreements, surveys, worklogs, and team-status tracking give participants a shared structure for delivery. This breadth is useful for course-based project work, but it is more than a simple placement listing.

Outcomes and reporting

Educators can collect employer feedback, run surveys, award achievements, build reports, and export raw outcome data. Programs that need to evaluate learning alongside project completion gain a clearer record of results; the value depends on making outcome tracking part of the workflow.

Integrations and security

Riipen supports LTI connections for single sign-on account provisioning and adding learners to linked experiences. Its experience LTI integration currently supports Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle; institutions using another LMS should confirm compatibility with Riipen. Deeper LMS integration via API can support features such as roster syncing. Riipen also supports SAML 2.0 identity systems, a documented REST API, webhooks, a developer dashboard, and Zapier workflows. Achievements can connect to external credentialing platforms, including a native Credly integration.

Riipen says customer data is hosted in AWS facilities in Canada across two availability zones, encrypted in transit and at rest, with access and activity logged and audited. That offers concrete infrastructure and access controls for institutions to assess against their own requirements.

Pricing

Riipen uses a freemium model. Riipen for students and employers is free: students and employers can use the platform without a fee, and employers are not charged recruitment fees for hiring students after a project or course. Organizations that want student talent and project work without a platform charge have a straightforward entry point.

Riipen for institutions has custom pricing, shared on request through a demo. Institutions get the platform's educator workflows and outcome tracking, but should establish the cost and fit before committing. The free plan is aimed at students and employers; it does not provide a published institutional price.

Platforms

Riipen is available on web and through an API. Its integrations can connect LMS, identity, credentialing, and automation workflows, but the supported LMS list for experience LTI is limited to Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle.

Who it's for

Riipen is best suited to colleges and universities embedding organizational projects in courses and needing to coordinate educators, employers, and learners while tracking outcomes. Employers and nonprofits looking to contribute projects or access student talent without platform or post-project hiring fees also have a clear reason to use it. It is a weaker fit for institutions whose LMS requirements are not met by the supported LTI options or that need a known institutional price before evaluation.

Pros and cons

Pros: Educator and employer workflows cover project matching, learner onboarding, delivery management, and feedback, keeping course-based work coordinated.
Pros: Surveys, employer feedback, achievements, reporting, and raw data export support outcome tracking beyond project completion.
Pros: Students and employers can use the platform free, and employers are not charged recruitment fees for hiring project participants.
Cons: Experience LTI supports Blackboard, Brightspace, Canvas, and Moodle, so institutions using other LMSs should confirm fit.
Cons: Institutional pricing is custom, which means colleges and universities need to request a quote to assess cost.

Verdict

Riipen is a strong choice for colleges and universities that want to embed employer projects in academic programs and track learner outcomes in the same platform. Its employer workflows and free access for students and organizations strengthen the case; institutions should look elsewhere if their LMS needs fall outside the supported LTI options or if they require an upfront institutional price.
