Overview

Resume Genius is a web and mobile service for building or revising resumes and preparing other job-application materials. It is best suited to applicants who want guided writing and review tools in one place; the free plan’s TXT-only resume downloads are its clearest limitation.

Its section-by-section prompts, expert tips and pre-written content give first-time writers a useful structure, while resume import supports people updating an existing document. The company describes its 25 templates as ATS-friendly for common systems, a practical design consideration rather than a guarantee of passing screening.

Key features

Resume creation and editing

The builder combines guided drafting with the ability to upload and improve an existing resume. AI tools include a summary generator, skills generator and resume parser. That mix can help applicants get a draft underway or organize existing material, although writers who prefer to shape every section without prompts may not need the guided workflow.

Application tools

A cover-letter builder, resume checker, expert resume review and digital resume extend the service beyond document creation. Keeping these tasks together may suit job seekers managing several application materials. Free users can download cover letters as PDF, Word or TXT, but resume downloads are TXT only; the broader resume formats require a paid plan.

Mobile access, privacy and support

The builder is optimized for mobile devices, including creating or editing a resume on a phone. Resume Genius says user information is GDPR/CCPA compliant and offers cookie opt-outs and requests for personal-data access or removal. Its privacy policy says collected information may include contact details, work and education history, skills, resumes and other application data, so users should consider what they upload. Support is available by phone, email and live chat Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM EDT.

Pricing

Resume Genius uses a freemium model, with a free plan and paid options. The advertised paid-from price is 7.95 /mo. The trial and annual plan prices are custom pricing.

Plan	What it includes	Best fit
Free Access	Free (billed $0); resume downloads in TXT only, cover-letter downloads in PDF, Word or TXT, and a US-only job board.	Applicants who can use a plain-text resume file and want to try the builder without paying.
14-day Trial Plan	Resume and cover-letter builders, AI summary generator, resume checker, resume review, and PDF, Word and TXT downloads.	Job seekers who need the full set of listed tools and formatted downloads for a short period. The trial lasts 14 days.
Annual Plan	Resume and cover-letter builders, AI summary generator, resume checker, resume review, and PDF, Word and TXT downloads.	Applicants who expect to use the paid tools over a longer period.

A 14-day money-back guarantee is advertised. Subscriptions can be canceled by email, phone or through the account dashboard. Payment is limited to credit cards: Resume Genius cannot process PayPal, Venmo, prepaid cards or debit cards, which may rule it out for some buyers.

Platforms

Resume Genius is available on the web, Android and iOS. Its mobile-optimized builder supports creating or editing a resume on a phone, useful when a desktop is not convenient.

Who it's for

The service addresses students and entry-level candidates, experienced professionals, career changers, and freelancers or gig workers. Guided prompts and pre-written content are especially useful for people who need help getting started; resume import better serves applicants refining an existing document. The US-only job board limits its usefulness as a job-search resource outside the United States.

Pros and cons

Pros: Guided creation, resume import and AI writing tools support both first drafts and revisions.
Pros: Resume review, a checker and a cover-letter builder cover several application tasks in one service.
Pros: Free cover-letter downloads include PDF and Word, and paid plans add those formats for resumes.
Cons: Free resume downloads are TXT only, so applicants needing PDF or Word must use a paid plan.
Cons: The job board is US-only, limiting its relevance for job seekers elsewhere.
Cons: Payment requires a credit card; debit cards and common alternatives such as PayPal and Venmo are not accepted.
