Overview

Hive brings project planning, task management, approvals and billing into a shared workspace. It is a strong fit for teams that want structured project tracking alongside day-to-day collaboration, but less compelling if they need offline access or a generous free storage allowance.

Key features

Project views, dashboards, goals and live reporting give teams ways to follow work from individual tasks to broader objectives. Templates and custom fields can help standardize work without forcing every team into the same structure, while portfolios extend oversight across projects. That breadth is useful for teams coordinating complex work; a group that only needs a basic task list may not need the extra planning layer.

Collaborative Notes, action cards with comments and file attachments, and forms for internal and external teammates keep coordination close to the work. Hive also offers AI tools for drafting email replies, converting meeting transcripts into action items, building projects, proofing content and creating dashboard widgets. Monthly credits vary by plan, so teams expecting frequent AI use should weigh the quotas against the per-user cost.

Hive says it supports more than 1,000 integrations, including Google Drive, Google Calendar, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Outlook Calendar, Jira, Slack, GitHub, Dropbox and QuickBooks. That breadth can reduce friction for teams already relying on those services. Workspaces keep messages, groups, actions and files private to the organization; nonmembers' access attempts are blocked and reported. Hive also says it forces 256-bit SSL at network entry points, uses ISO 27001-accredited hosting and backs up data hourly. Its vulnerability disclosure program covers web, mobile and desktop apps and pays bounties according to severity.

Hive requires an internet connection, so it is not suited to work that must continue offline. The service runs on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. Support is available by contacting its team, though weekend inquiries or messages after 6 PM EST may not get a same-day reply.

Pricing

Free costs 0.00 USD per free, billed free forever. It includes 1,000 AI credits per month, 200MB storage, up to 10 workspace members, unlimited tasks and unlimited collaborative notes. Hive positions it for light project management; the storage cap is the main practical constraint, while the member ceiling rules it out for larger teams.

Starter costs 5.00 USD per month, billed per user. It provides 3,000 AI credits per month, unlimited storage, up to 10 workspace members and up to 10 projects, plus Gantt view, cloud storage integrations, an in-app calendar, Zoom and Slack from Hive, and AI Assistant. It suits smaller teams that need more storage and planning tools, but the member and project limits remain.

Teams costs 12.00 USD per month, billed per user. It raises membership to unlimited and includes 5,000 AI credits per month, shareable forms, time tracking, portfolios, team sharing, custom fields, labels and statuses. Flexible add-ons cost extra. This is the clearer fit for growing teams that need broader coordination and administration; the per-user charge and extra add-on costs matter as usage expands.

Enterprise has custom pricing and is billed by contacting Hive. It offers custom AI credits, included flexible add-ons, enhanced security and permission controls, unlimited onboarding, a dedicated Customer Success Manager, Enterprise API and professional services. Those provisions make it the tier for organizations needing tailored controls or support, rather than teams looking for a fixed-price plan.

Hive offers a free trial, but gives no trial length in these plan terms.

Who it's for

Hive is best for teams that want project views, collaboration, integrations and AI assistance in one workspace. Free can suit light project management for a small group; Starter fits a small team needing more storage and Gantt planning; Teams is better for organizations that need unlimited membership and team-wide features. Teams that work offline, or that can manage with simpler task tracking, should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros: A broad set of planning tools, collaborative features and AI functions can support work from task execution through portfolio oversight.
Pros: More than 1,000 integrations include widely used calendars, storage, communication and development tools.
Pros: Teams has unlimited workspace members, and its included controls and collaboration features suit larger groups better than the capped lower tiers.
Cons: Free storage is limited to 200MB, and both Free and Starter cap workspaces at 10 members; Starter also stops at 10 projects.
Cons: Offline access is unavailable, which makes Hive a poor choice where connectivity cannot be assumed.
Cons: Teams add-ons cost extra, and Enterprise requires a custom quote, making those tiers less straightforward to budget.

Alternatives

Firestore is worth considering when a team needs a database platform rather than Hive's project and collaboration workspace; its listed standard-edition quotas include 50,000 document reads and 20,000 document writes per day, with prices not stated.

ObjectBox may suit teams seeking a database with a free core offering and support across Android, iOS, Linux, macOS and Windows, rather than Hive's project-management focus.

Espresso is the more targeted option for Android UI testing, with its free plan covering a single target app and Android 4.0.1/API 14+.

Ditto is an alternative for mobile database needs; its free plan includes 10 cloud device connections, 2GB storage and 5GB data transfer, with no SLA and limited support.

RxDB is another database-focused choice, with a free plan that includes its core, replication and realtime sync, and default storages.

TBase is a free alternative for teams evaluating database platforms.

Firebase Cloud Messaging is a free option when the need is specifically cloud messaging, rather than project management.

Isar is an open-source, Apache-licensed free option for teams looking for a database platform.

Verdict

Choose Hive if your team wants project planning, collaboration and a broad integration set in one workspace, with Teams available when you need unlimited membership. Look elsewhere if offline work is essential, or if the Free plan's 200MB storage and 10-member cap will constrain you.
