Overview

Houzz brings a local directory for homeowners and home professionals together with business software for remodeling and design companies. It suits firms that want project administration and a route to homeowner leads in the same ecosystem. Its free tier makes it approachable, but the fuller workflow comes at a substantial monthly price.

Key features

Houzz Pro’s estimates, invoicing, 3D Floor Planner, online payments, assemblies and CRM cover useful ground for a home-industry business. Digital contracts add templates, electronic signatures, reminders and activity tracking, helping keep agreements connected to project work. The Web Product Clipper also lets staff save items from supplier websites into a Houzz Pro product library through a browser extension.

The mobile app handles projects and leads, estimates, proposals, invoices, schedules, tasks, time and expenses, time clocks and daily logs. Offline access to project data is valuable when internet service drops at a job site. Unlimited storage for data, photos, videos and documents removes a stated storage ceiling. The integration roster spans accounting, calendars, email, meetings and file storage; Zapier can import leads and projects into Houzz Pro, but cannot export data from it.

Houzz transmits data over HTTPS, meets PCI-DSS standards for credit-card payments, stores data in AWS and keeps encrypted backups. Users may request a CSV export of Houzz Pro data in privacy settings. Support includes live chat, email, phone, a Help Center, video tutorials, training resources and a professional forum.

Pricing

The Free Plan is free and includes the 3D Floor Planner, estimates and invoicing. It is a sensible starting point for a small business that needs those core tools, but it does not include the broader workflow listed for Pro.

Pro costs 249.00 USD per month, with a 30 day free trial billed at $0/mo for the trial, then $249/mo. It adds online payments, assemblies, CRM and phone and live chat support to the Free Plan tools. This is the more complete choice for firms managing active projects and client workflows, but the recurring price is a meaningful commitment. Online payment fees are 3.5% for credit cards and 1% for ACH, so businesses should account for transaction costs as well.

The Advertising Package starts at 499.00 USD per month and includes preferred directory placement, lead generation and targeted advertising. It is aimed at firms prioritizing visibility and lead acquisition, rather than those seeking only project-management tools. Custom pricing applies to a plan with takeoffs, project schedules, selections boards, daily logs, budgets, bid management, change orders, financial reports, marketing solutions, dedicated account support and unlimited users.

Platforms

Houzz is available on web, iOS and Android, with a browser extension for the Web Product Clipper. The mobile app’s offline project access is particularly relevant for teams working where connectivity is unreliable.

Who it's for

Houzz is strongest for remodeling and design professionals who want estimates, billing, contracts, project coordination and directory visibility under one roof. The Free Plan suits a business testing the core planning and billing tools; Pro makes more sense when CRM, online payments and assemblies matter to day-to-day work. It is less compelling for a firm that needs only basic estimating or is unwilling to absorb Pro’s monthly cost and payment fees.

Pros and cons

Pros: The Free Plan includes a 3D Floor Planner, estimates and invoicing, giving businesses a practical way to begin without a subscription charge.
Pros: Pro combines project, contract, mobile and product-sourcing tools, while offline project access supports work during connectivity interruptions.
Pros: Unlimited storage and CSV data export provide flexibility for handling project media and retaining business data.
Cons: Pro costs 249.00 USD per month after its trial, and card or ACH payments carry additional fees.
Cons: Zapier only imports leads and projects; it cannot send Houzz Pro data outward through that integration.
Cons: The Advertising Package starts at 499.00 USD per month, a separate and substantial expense for businesses seeking directory promotion.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison of contractor-focused tools, browse Remodeling Contractor Software or Construction Project Management Software. Businesses focused on finding or comparing directory options can consult Business Directories.

Workhand is worth considering when a small team wants a free tier capped at one active job and one teammate, with three estimates and three invoices per month. Buildshop offers a free Basic plan with estimates, invoices, contact management, a message tool and a project portfolio, making it an option for teams prioritizing those basics. Clear Estimates is a paid alternative with unlimited estimates and customers on its Standard plans, for businesses whose priority is estimating rather than Houzz’s broader workflow.

Stairkey, Buildxact, BuildBook, Build Method and Buildern are also options to compare.

Verdict

Choose Houzz if you run a remodeling or design business that can use its project tools and wants a local directory and advertising path alongside them. The Free Plan is a useful entry point, while Pro’s broad workflow is the main reason to pay. Look elsewhere if its $249 monthly price, payment fees or one-way Zapier connection do not fit the way your business operates.
