Overview

IASystem combines online and paper-based course evaluations, giving institutions a way to support both workflows within one system. Administrators can tailor forms for the institution, a college, or a department, while instructors can add scaled or open-ended questions for their own courses. That structure balances consistent campus-wide processes with room for course-specific feedback.

Students can access evaluations from Canvas, Blackboard, and other learning management systems through LTI. A web API can also support campus-specific integrations, such as displaying evaluation links in a student portal. These options suit institutions that want evaluations to fit existing student workflows.

Key features

Reporting covers course and combined-course summaries, administrative high/low and ratings summaries, survey lists, and data exports. Institution-specific reliability estimates, item-level deciles, and regression analyses give assessment teams tools to interpret results and adjust their analysis. This depth is useful for institutional assessment, but may be more than a campus needs if it only wants to collect basic course feedback.

HTTPS communications, role-based permissions, and server-side processing for calculations, validations, and reports address system access and processing controls. Reports and data extracts omit student names, IDs, and login information, supporting respondent privacy. IASystem does not provide anonymous feedback, however, so institutions requiring that specific evaluation mode should look elsewhere.

Phone and email support is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Pacific Time. That scheduled support can help campus administrators, though it may not suit teams that need assistance outside those hours.

Pricing

IASystem has no ongoing free plan, but a one-term pilot license is free. It gives a campus a term to pilot the system before committing to an enrollment-category license.

All six enrollment plans include institution-wide access and no course limit, with annual per-enrolled-student pricing based on full-time-equivalent enrollment. Each also carries a $5,404 one-time setup fee:

Enrollment Category 6: 1.59 USD per year for 20,000+ FTE students.
Enrollment Category 5: 1.64 USD per year for 15,000–19,999 FTE students.
Enrollment Category 4: 1.74 USD per year for 10,000–14,999 FTE students.
Enrollment Category 3: 1.79 USD per year for 5,000–9,999 FTE students.
Enrollment Category 2: 1.85 USD per year for 2,000–4,999 FTE students.
Enrollment Category 1: 1.90 USD per year for under 2,000 FTE students.

The per-student rate declines as enrollment rises, while smaller institutions pay a higher annual rate per student. Paper forms and scanning cost extra, with charges depending on usage, so campuses planning to retain paper evaluations should include that variable in their budget. The pilot is a useful way to assess fit, but it does not remove the setup fee or ongoing license costs.

Platforms

IASystem is available through web and API platforms. Its LTI access from Canvas, Blackboard, and other LMS applications can bring evaluations into student workflows, while the API supports campus-specific integration. Institutions seeking Android or iOS platform support should consider their requirements carefully.

Who it's for

IASystem is aimed at colleges and universities that need institution-wide instructor evaluations, flexible form governance, and reporting beyond basic summaries. Its support from the University of Washington’s Institutional Assessment & Evaluation team and its institution-specific analysis tools make it particularly relevant to campuses with established assessment programs. It is a weaker fit for organizations outside higher education or for campuses that require anonymous feedback.

Pros and cons

Pros: Online and paper workflows let institutions accommodate different evaluation practices; administrators and instructors can configure forms at different levels; LMS access, an API, and data exports support campus workflows; advanced analysis helps assessment teams interpret results.
Cons: The $5,404 setup fee is a significant initial cost alongside annual licensing; paper forms and scanning add usage-dependent charges; the published support window is limited to weekday business hours in Pacific Time; anonymous feedback is not supported.

Alternatives

Course Evaluation Software is a useful starting point for comparing options across the category. Consider FrontCore if a free plan for up to 30 participants or a £42.00 per month plan for up to 300 participants better matches your needs. Qualtrics is worth considering for an individual who can work within its free allowance of one user, three active surveys, and 500 total responses. SmartEvals offers a free Lite option for schools currently using paper, making it a possible alternative for that starting point.

EduAdmin is another alternative. Choose High-Resolution Course Feedback if a free course survey with a roster, custom questions, and an admin list is sufficient. QuestionPro has a free Essentials plan for one user and up to 200 responses per survey, while Coursecheck offers a paid Essentials plan from £38 per month (+ VAT) for up to 50 training events per year. EvalSystem may suit institutions considering an annual license: its BASIC plan is $6,000 / Year, as low as $500 / Month, for up to 1,500 FTEs with full access to features and functionality.

Verdict

Choose IASystem if your college or university needs configurable instructor evaluations, LMS access, and institution-focused analysis across online and paper workflows. Its strongest case is the combination of flexible forms and advanced reporting at a per-student annual rate. Look elsewhere if the setup fee, paper-processing charges, lack of anonymous feedback, or weekday-only support do not fit your institution’s needs.
