Overview

QRaten brings users, courses, sub-courses and attendance sessions into one place. Teachers create classes, and students check in by scanning a QR code or entering a time-limited code. QR and code entry give institutions two ways to take attendance, while absence tracking, alerts and personal history extend the platform beyond session check-ins.

Its role structure distinguishes students, teachers, assistants and substitutes, which makes QRaten a better fit for institutions with varied responsibilities than a basic attendance register. The platform is delivered as a Progressive Web App (PWA), installable from a compatible browser without an app-store download.

Key features

Attendance controls

QRaten says it uses expiring invitations, role-based access, sync validation and duplicate-record protections. Sessions are tied to a device to help prevent a student from recording attendance for someone else on another device. These controls address common attendance-management concerns, though they do not remove the need to account for the platform’s offline-data limitation.

Offline work and reports

When a device is offline, QRaten stores actions locally, queues them and syncs them automatically when connectivity returns. It says the local data is encrypted and synchronization resolves conflicts automatically. That is useful for schools with unreliable connections, but the terms do not make QRaten responsible for losses involving unsynced offline data or misuse.

Users can create Excel and PDF attendance reports, filtering by course, date, role, status and academic period. These exports and filters give staff a practical way to review attendance records without relying on a single overall summary.

Accessibility and support

QRaten aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA, while acknowledging that some parts may not yet be fully accessible. Institutional contacts can reach support by email at oficial@qraten.com or by WhatsApp at +591 70930853; Pro includes priority support.

Pricing

QRaten uses a freemium model and offers a free trial. The Free Plan costs 0.00 USD per free, billed $0 / forever. It includes students and members, QR/code attendance, personal history, mobile, tablet and computer access, offline sync, essential alerts and PWA installation. This is a reasonable starting point for basic attendance needs, but it does not include the institutional management and reporting tools in Pro.

The Pro Plan Full access costs 0.00 USD per free, billed Free for a limited time. It adds institutional course and user management, advanced roles, Excel/PDF reports, analytics, onboarding, integrations and priority support. That package is the more complete option for institutions managing attendance centrally, but its free price is explicitly temporary, so it should not be treated as a permanent budget assumption.

The service terms also matter to either plan: QRaten does not guarantee uninterrupted cloud availability, and it excludes responsibility for data lost through unsynced offline use or misuse. Institutions depending on attendance records should account for those limits in their operating procedures.

Platforms

QRaten supports Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows. Its installation guide specifies Android 8+ and iOS 16.4+, with Windows, Mac and Linux access through compatible browsers. Because it is a PWA, installation does not require the App Store or Google Play.

Who it's for

QRaten suits schools and academic institutions that want QR or code-based attendance, offline synchronization, role-based permissions and exportable reports. The free tier fits a smaller or simpler use case built around check-ins and personal history; institutions that need central course and user management, advanced roles, analytics or integrations will need Pro. It is less suitable for organizations that require guaranteed uninterrupted cloud availability or cannot accept the stated offline-data responsibility limits.

Pros and cons

Pros: QR scanning and time-limited code entry provide two attendance methods.
Pros: Offline queuing and automatic synchronization support use when connectivity drops.
Pros: Excel/PDF exports and filters by course, date, role, status and academic period support administrative review.
Pros: Browser installation and broad desktop and mobile compatibility avoid dependence on an app-store install.
Cons: Pro’s stated free price is for a limited time, so ongoing cost certainty is limited.
Cons: Cloud uptime is not guaranteed, and unsynced offline-data losses are excluded from responsibility.
Cons: QRaten says some parts may not yet meet its WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility aim.

Alternatives

Student Attendance Software is the broader category to explore when comparing attendance tools across providers.

Choose Bulsee if a free attendance option across Android, iOS and web is the priority; its free plan has no stated price or usage limits.

Attendances is an alternative for schools seeking an institution-specific quote.

GatePass is another paid option, with a one-term trial at zero cost and no credit card or commitment.

Edusign is an alternative with an Organisation Pro plan that includes 1,000 attendances per month before a €0.25-per-signature charge.

EduAttendance is another school subscription option priced per school by student count.

SchoolPass Visitor Management is another paid option.

SwipeK12 is another paid option with pricing by request.

UnivTrack is an alternative with a free plan and support for web, desktop and mobile platforms.

Verdict

QRaten is a strong fit for academic institutions that need QR-based attendance, offline capture and structured reporting without starting with a paid plan. Its role controls and export options give it more administrative reach than a simple check-in tool. Look elsewhere if guaranteed cloud availability, permanent price certainty for the full feature set or complete accessibility conformance is essential.
