Overview

Pick a genre and protagonist, then guide the story through one of three suggested paths or a direction of your own. TaleAI generates chapters of about 800 words, a format that favors serialized reading and frequent decisions over writing or reading a single fixed-length narrative. Its eight story worlds cover Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance, Mystery, Wuxia, Urban, Thriller and Workplace, giving readers a broad range of starting points.

Characters can remember events from as far back as thirty chapters, including names, wounds and promises. That continuity helps choices feel connected to earlier events rather than isolated turns. Chapters are cached for offline reading, and stories can receive AI-generated covers and hero portraits. Completed chapters can also become three pages of panel art, a useful visual extra rather than a substitute for the text.

Story text is generated with DeepSeek, while Volcengine/Seedream generates covers, character images and chapter art. TaleAI supports English, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Thai; the app listing represents both Chinese variants.

Key features

Branching chapters: Each generated page offers three paths, and readers can instead enter a custom direction. This balances quick, guided choices with room to steer the plot more freely.
Character memory: Recall reaching thirty chapters can support longer-running stories, particularly when names, injuries or promises matter to later decisions.
Offline reading and narration: Cached chapters work offline. Free on-device narration includes sentence tapping, adjustable speed from 0.75–2x, sleep timers and locked-screen playback, making it practical for listening as well as reading.
AI-created visuals: Covers and hero portraits give stories a visual identity, while chapter-to-panel conversion adds three pages of art after a chapter is complete. Optional AI art uses credits.
Exports: Free exports to PDF or EPUB carry a watermark; Plus and Pro remove it. That makes the free tier suitable for trying stories, but less suitable for sharing clean copies.

Pricing

TaleAI is freemium, with paid plans billed through the App Store. The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes two stories, up to 15 chapters each, 90 credits, watermarked PDF/EPUB exports and on-device narration. Those caps make it a reasonable trial of the format, but regular readers can reach the story or chapter ceiling quickly.

A one-time credit top-up costs 0.99 USD per once, never expires and can be used for optional AI art and cloud narration. It is a way to add occasional extras without a recurring subscription, but it does not remove the free plan's story and chapter limits.

Plus monthly costs 9.99 USD per month, billed through the App Store; Plus yearly costs 69.99 USD per year, also billed through the App Store. Both offer unlimited stories and chapters, 1,000 credits per month, cloud sync and unwatermarked PDF/EPUB exports. Plus fits frequent readers who want to keep building stories and access them across synced use, without Pro's additional generation options.

Pro monthly costs 19.99 USD per month, billed through the App Store; Pro yearly costs 149.99 USD per year, also billed through the App Store. Both include everything in Plus, 200 Deep Mode chapters per month, selfie portraits, 14 art styles, priority generation and 2,000 credits per month. It is aimed at readers who will use those advanced generation and portrait features; otherwise, Plus already removes the main story, chapter and export constraints.

Platforms

TaleAI is available on iPhone and iPad, and supports Mac with macOS 12.0 or later and an Apple M1 chip or later. Its Apple-device focus excludes Android and web readers. Offline chapter caching is a practical advantage when reading without a connection.

Who it's for

TaleAI is intended for users aged 12 or older, or the minimum age required in their jurisdiction. It is best for readers who enjoy influencing serialized fiction, want continuity across many choices, or value listening and offline access. It is less suited to people looking for a web-based writing platform or an Android app.

Pros and cons

Pro: Memory reaching thirty chapters helps preserve details that make long branching stories feel connected.
Pro: Offline caching, flexible on-device narration and locked-screen playback support reading and listening in different settings.
Pro: Plus removes story and chapter caps and export watermarks, while annual and monthly subscription options suit different payment preferences.
Con: The free tier stops at two stories and 15 chapters per story, limiting how far a reader can take multiple narratives without upgrading.
Con: Android and web users cannot use the app, and Mac support requires both macOS 12.0 or later and Apple M1 or later.
Con: Pro costs substantially more than Plus; its premium price makes sense mainly for readers who want Deep Mode, selfie portraits, more art styles or priority generation.

Alternatives

AI Story Generators is a broader category to explore if TaleAI's Apple-only, chapter-by-chapter format is not the right fit.

Choose Talefy if Android or web access matters; it also supports iOS and macOS and offers a free trial, though its free tariff lasts three days.

DreamGen is a web-based alternative with a free tier for trying its models and features, better suited to readers who want browser access.

PLOT is another free-to-start option for readers who prefer Android, iOS or web access.

FireQuill is a web alternative with a free plan limited to two projects and no AI, and a Companion plan at 10.00 USD per month.

Interactable Stories is a web-based alternative with a free plan.

Narratomi is a web alternative whose free plan allows two projects and 50 monthly AI credits, with mini models only.

OpenRP is a web-based alternative with a free plan and a Plus subscription at 10.00 USD per month.

Pominis is a web alternative whose free plan offers 30 daily credits, up to 300 per month, for public stories and personal, non-commercial use.

Verdict

Choose TaleAI if you want to shape continuing fiction on an Apple device and value long-range character memory, offline chapters and built-in narration. Plus is the practical upgrade for readers who outgrow the free caps or need clean exports; Pro is worthwhile only if its Deep Mode, portraits and art options are priorities. Look elsewhere if you need Android or web access.
