Overview

Talktiko combines short daily lessons with spaced repetition and AI-generated activities that adjust to a learner’s CEFR level and progress. Its curriculum runs from A1 to C2, with advanced levels accessible without a paywall. Thirteen languages can be started free, so it works well for learners comparing languages before choosing a longer-term path.

The exercise catalogue spans 25 formats for reading, writing, listening and speaking. A placement test helps establish an entry point, while personalized review brings previously studied material back into practice. More than 650 text-to-speech voices, including Azure and ElevenLabs voices, provide substantial audio variety.

Key features

Adaptive practice and speech work

AI-generated exercises respond to level and progress rather than presenting an identical sequence to every learner. Speech practice supports spoken output, and the higher Pro and Family plans add AI conversation practice. Pro also includes pronunciation assessment, making it the stronger fit for learners who need explicit feedback on speaking rather than recognition drills alone.

Offline study

The iOS and Android apps support offline lessons, streak reminders and progress syncing across devices. Talktiko can also be installed as a progressive web app and used offline, then sync progress after reconnecting. That combination suits commuters and learners with unreliable connectivity, while people who study only at one connected desk gain less from it.

Integrations

Organisations can use REST API access, webhooks, CSV exports, LTI 1.3 launches for Canvas, Blackboard and Moodle, and xAPI forwarding. HMAC-SHA256 webhook signatures and scoped API-token abilities provide useful controls for system administrators. These capabilities make Talktiko more suitable for formal learning environments than a consumer-only app.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and allows one language, three lessons per day and basic text-to-speech. It is a sensible way to sample the curriculum, but the daily quota is restrictive for intensive study and it omits the broader language choice and offline mode of paid tiers.

Plus Annual costs 4.17 USD per month, billed annually. It includes all languages, five lessons per day, offline mode and premium voices. This is the economical choice for regular but bounded practice; the five-lesson ceiling still limits learners who want long sessions.

Pro Annual costs 8.25 USD per month, billed annually. It removes lesson limits and adds AI conversation practice, offline mode, pronunciation assessment and video exercises. It is the clearest fit for serious individual learners, especially those prioritising speaking, though it costs nearly twice Plus.

Family Annual costs 10.83 USD per month, billed annually. It offers the Pro-style unlimited lessons, AI conversation practice and offline mode with family sharing, making the extra cost worthwhile when several household members will use it.

Institutional Starter Annual costs 96.00 USD per year, billed annually (the page also displays 8.25 USD per month). It is priced per seat and includes all languages, unlimited lessons, API access, multi-seat access, AI conversation practice and offline mode. That package targets schools and teams rather than a single learner.

Talktiko advertises a 30-day free trial near the top of its pricing page and 7-day trials on paid-plan cards. Subscriptions can be canceled anytime. Payments support major cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and SEPA through Stripe.

Platforms

Talktiko is available on Android, iOS and the web, with API access for integrations. Mobile apps and the progressive web app extend offline use beyond a single device.

Who it's for

Independent learners preparing for work, travel or exams such as DELE, DELF, Goethe-Zertifikat and JLPT will find the CEFR range and varied exercise formats useful. It also suits organisations that need LMS launches, exports or event-driven data flows. Learners wanting unlimited practice at the lowest paid price should budget for Pro rather than Plus.

Pros and cons

Pro: A1–C2 courses and 13 languages let learners progress or switch focus without abandoning the platform.
Pro: Offline lessons, syncing and mobile reminders support consistent study away from a desk.
Pro: API, LTI, xAPI and signed webhooks provide a credible integration path for institutions.
Con: The free plan permits only three lessons daily and one language.
Con: Plus limits learners to five lessons per day, so heavy users must pay for Pro or Family.
Con: Annual billing applies to the advertised monthly prices on paid individual plans.

Alternatives

Language learning apps is a broader starting point for comparing products by category.

Choose Duolingo instead if you want a freemium app spanning Android, iOS, macOS and web with a free plan and a one-week trial.

Innovative Language Learning is an alternative with free lessons and transcripts, mobile access and a Basic plan priced at 8.00 USD per month.

JapanesePod101 is the more focused option for learners seeking Japanese pathways and survival-phrase content.

Meslingo is an alternative combining four skills with mini-games, flashcards, chat, video calls and community features.

Langua is an alternative centred on chat and call-based practice.

Tandem is an alternative with free access and paid tiers that add learning features.

Lingora offers individual-language course tiers with Premium and Pro access.

Busuu is an alternative with free, Premium and Premium Plus plans, including AI conversation features on its top tier.

Verdict

Talktiko is a strong choice for learners who want a wide CEFR curriculum, offline continuity and adaptable practice, or for institutions that need standards-based integrations. Choose it over simpler freemium apps when those breadth and integration advantages matter; look elsewhere if a three-lesson free allowance or Plus’s five-lesson cap cannot support your routine and an annual Pro or Family commitment is not suitable.
