Overview

Journi connects photo selection, personal journals and printed products in one workflow. Its AI turns selected pictures into a story-led layout, while Journi Blog records experiences as timelines and maps that can later be made into Photo Books. That makes it more useful for preserving a trip or family history than a tool focused only on arranging pages for print.

Journals can be private, restricted or public, and collaborators can contribute to shared journals. Journi can draw on Google Photos and back up to Google Drive or Dropbox. The Google Photos connection has a practical limitation: pictures in shared albums must first be downloaded to the device library.

Key features

AI layouts and book customization

Journi says its AI can arrange up to 1,200 photos into a timeline and generate a story-driven layout in seconds. That capacity gives users a useful starting point for a large trip or event collection, but the automated layout is not the only design choice: Photo Books can be refined with text, captions, fonts, themes, colors and maps.

Photo Books are offered in five sizes and range from 25 to 300 pages under the plan description; the product information also gives a maximum of 349 pages. Premium Layflat books have a separate ceiling of 103 pages and cannot be ordered in Australia, New Zealand or Canada. Those limits matter most to people planning a long book or a lay-flat spread in one of those countries.

Journals, sharing and data handling

Journi Blog gives experiences a timeline-and-map structure and lets users turn them into books. The choice of private, restricted or public journals, plus collaborator sharing, supports both personal diaries and group trips. Journi states that it has processor agreements under GDPR Articles 28 and 44 and provides GDPR data-subject rights. Its searchable help center includes articles, FAQs and a way to submit requests.

Journi describes normal use as no more than 10 GB of uploaded data or 5,000 images per month. That is a substantial allowance for typical personal projects, but frequent large imports should be kept within the stated fair-use boundary. The company also says it uses FSC-certified materials and plants a tree for every order.

Pricing

The free Journi app plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes the Journi Print and Journi Blog apps. It is the sensible starting point for recording experiences and exploring the workflow before paying for a physical product; the plan information does not assign a book or calendar to the free tier.

Photo Calendars start at 19.99 USD per once, with portrait at $19.99, landscape at $21.99 and square at $24.99. The one-time format pricing suits buyers who want a single calendar rather than an ongoing subscription.

Photo Books start at 19.99 USD per once and include five sizes, 25–300 pages and softcover, hardcover or premium Layflat options. The broad page range and binding choices fit projects from a short album to a substantial collection, subject to the separate Layflat cap and country restrictions. Printing is a one-time purchase, not a recurring plan.

Platforms

Journi supports Android, iOS, macOS and the web. Mobile apps suit adding memories as experiences unfold, while web and macOS access provide options beyond a phone for organizing and ordering. Automatic layouts and print ordering are supported.

Who it's for

Journi is best suited to travelers, families and diarists who want photos organized into a narrative and may later print that record. It is less suitable for buyers whose workflow depends on direct imports from shared Google Photos albums, or whose chosen Layflat format exceeds 103 pages or must ship to Australia, New Zealand or Canada.

Pros and cons

Pros: AI can organize up to 1,200 photos into a timeline, helping large personal collections get a coherent starting structure.
Pros: Journaling, maps, collaborator sharing and printed books sit in one service, so an experience can move from digital record to keepsake.
Pros: Free apps and one-time print prices let users start without a subscription commitment.
Cons: Shared Google Photos album contents must be downloaded to the device library before Journi can use them.
Cons: Layflat books stop at 103 pages and are unavailable in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, limiting some long or regional projects.
Cons: The monthly fair-use boundary of 10 GB or 5,000 images may constrain unusually heavy upload habits.

Verdict

Choose Journi if you want a travel, family or personal journal to become a customizable printed book, with AI helping turn a large photo set into a narrative. Its free apps and one-time print pricing make it approachable, but the shared-album workaround and strict Layflat limits are good reasons to choose another service when those are essential to your project.
