Overview

Miles is an AI running coach for iPhone, with training goals spanning 5K to marathon distance. It suits runners who want an adjustable schedule and cues while running, though the full coaching package requires a paid plan.

Its particular strength is carrying guidance through the training cycle: a plan can adapt when a run is missed, pace prompts help during workouts, and analysis follows each run. The free tier is more of a way to track runs and preview a plan than a complete coaching option.

Key features

Adaptive training plans

Miles Pro builds a week-by-week plan based on current fitness and reflows it after missed runs. That flexibility is useful for new and returning runners whose routines may be interrupted, as well as experienced runners pursuing a personal best or training for a marathon. Plans cover 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon goals. The free plan supports goal setting and a plan preview, but not the adaptive program itself.

Live and post-run coaching

During a run, Pro tracks GPS pace and gives audio cues when pace drifts from target. Structured intervals, tempo runs and long runs provide a more purposeful training framework than run tracking alone. After each run, Miles offers analysis of what worked and what to change, which can help runners reflect on a session and adjust their next effort.

Treadmill runs count too: indoor sessions can include structured workouts and post-run analysis. Pro also supports Apple Health and Bluetooth heart-rate monitors. Those options make Miles more accommodating for runners who train indoors or want heart-rate data included, but the app remains focused on running rather than broader fitness programming.

Health data and privacy

Miles collects location and fitness information, including GPS data, distance, pace, cadence, heart rate and workout time. With consent, it may share anonymised pace and distance data with an AI/LLM partner to generate coaching insights and recommendations. Miles says it uses SSL encryption in transit, limits access to personal data to those who need it, and uses industry-standard encryption technologies with cloud hosting providers. Users can request access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability or objection to processing, and can withdraw consent. Support is available at help@milesapp.run.

Pricing

Miles uses a freemium model. The Free plan is free and includes iPhone run tracking, goal setting and plan preview. It is suitable for runners who mainly need basic tracking or want to preview a goal plan, but it omits adaptive training, live pace coaching and post-run analysis.

Miles Pro Monthly costs 14.99 USD per month, billed immediately through the App Store, with no free trial. It includes adaptive training, live audio pace coaching, post-run analysis, readiness and training load, Apple Health and Bluetooth heart-rate monitor support. Monthly billing fits someone who wants the full feature set without committing for a year, but it costs more over a year than the annual option.

Miles Pro Annual costs 99.99 USD per year, billed through the App Store after a 7-day free trial. It includes the same Pro features as the monthly plan and is the lower-cost choice for runners expecting to train with Miles throughout the year. The trial is limited to the annual plan. Miles Pro - One time offer costs 69.99 USD per once; no further inclusions or terms are stated for that option.

Platforms

Miles is available on iOS. The App Store lists compatibility with iPhone running iOS 18.5 or later and Apple Watch running watchOS 11 or later. Android users cannot choose Miles on the platforms stated.

Who it's for

Miles is a strong fit for new runners, people returning to running, personal-best chasers and marathon trainees who want a guided plan that can adjust to missed sessions. Its treadmill support also suits runners who split training between indoor and outdoor sessions. It is less suitable for Android users, people seeking coaching across multiple sports, or runners who are content with basic run logging and do not need a subscription.

Pros and cons

Pro: The plan adapts to current fitness and missed runs, which is useful when training schedules are not perfectly consistent.
Pro: GPS pace cues, structured workouts and post-run analysis provide guidance before, during and after a session.
Pro: Treadmill workouts count, and Pro connects with Apple Health and Bluetooth heart-rate monitors.
Con: Adaptive plans and coaching are paid features; the free plan is limited to tracking, goal setting and a plan preview.
Con: The app is iOS-only, with iPhone and Apple Watch compatibility requirements that rule out some devices.
Con: Monthly Pro has no trial and is billed immediately, while the 7-day trial applies to the annual plan.
Con: Coaching uses sensitive location and fitness data, and consent permits sharing anonymised pace and distance data with an AI/LLM partner.

Alternatives

For a wider set of AI fitness options, browse AI Fitness Apps.

Choose APEX instead if you want a broader Android and iOS fitness app with free workout and meal logging without caps, unlimited custom routines and more than 300 exercises. For an iOS workout app with a free workout each week and a 7-day period of full access, consider ARDOR; its focus is not the running-plan and pace-coaching combination Miles offers.

Saga Coach is another iOS freemium option, with three workouts always free and a chat trial; its paid plan includes unlimited workouts and full chat access. Styrki may suit runners who prioritize manual workout logging, personal-best tracking, GPS runs and a community feed, with some AI workouts included in its free plan.

Pick Freeletics if you want free workouts, exercises, runs and audio sessions across Android, iOS and web, accepting a limited content selection. AI-Training is a paid Android and iOS alternative with a free plan and trial. For broader AI fitness features on Android or iOS, Core Direction offers a freemium option and a 9.99 USD per month premium plan. Run With Hal is another running-focused alternative for Android and iOS, with a free plan and Hal+ subscriptions.

Verdict

Miles is best for iPhone runners who want an adaptive race-training plan, pace cues and feedback after each workout, including for treadmill sessions. Its free tier is narrow, and the monthly plan is a costly way to maintain ongoing coaching; choose the annual plan if you expect to use Pro through a training year, or look elsewhere if you need Android support or broader fitness coaching.
