Overview

Newsflare connects people who film videos with brands, media agencies and production companies seeking licensable user-generated content. Its vault contains more than 350,000 videos for advertising, social media, television, film and other digital uses. The catalogue gives production teams a substantial starting point, while the rights-managed approach lets a buyer define the intended territory, timing and duration of use.

Buyers can also submit a brief specifying the subject, location and deadline. Newsflare then commissions footage from its network, which is useful when an archive search cannot deliver a particular event or setting. The trade-off is a managed buying process: a buyer account is required, and the licensing team sets up the profile before access is arranged. Prospective customers can request a free demo and trial the video service.

Key features

Commercial footage and custom sourcing

Video licensing supports commercial use with rights-managed terms and resolutions up to 4K. Prices are tailored to the platform, quantity, intended use and licensing period; Newsflare mentions both one-off projects and monthly subscriptions. That flexibility can fit campaigns with unusual rights requirements, but it makes direct cost comparison harder than with fixed-price stock libraries.

AI datasets

Newsflare offers datasets for generative and multimodal models, facial and object detection, and content moderation. Contributors can upload in bulk from a local device, Google Drive, Dropbox or Box. The program requires at least five hours of steady footage at 1080p or higher, and contributors must have filmed the material themselves. This is a targeted option for teams sourcing real-world training data, not a general-purpose clip subscription.

Creator marketplace and protection

Creators retain ownership and copyright when their videos are licensed. They receive 50% of the licence fee, with PayPal or Wise payouts once the balance reaches £25; smaller balances carry forward until that threshold is met. With consent, Newsflare can use Meta and YouTube tools to find copies, block videos, submit takedowns or claim revenue. Protection currently covers Facebook, Instagram and YouTube only, so it is not a complete solution for wider online enforcement.

Workflow and integrations

The Android app accepts footage for consideration by media outlets, news organisations and brands, while briefs can be answered through the website or mobile app. Newsflare also provides instructions for sending feeds to Slack or Microsoft Teams. Google Play reports encryption in transit and says the app may collect photos and videos, app activity and two other data types.

Pricing

Video licensing

Video licensing uses custom pricing based on intended use, platform, quantity and licensing period. It is a paid, subscription-oriented service with commercial rights and rights-managed licensing rather than a published self-serve rate. Buyers should contact the licensing team to establish an account and obtain a quote; a free demo and trial are offered. This model suits organisations budgeting around defined campaigns or ongoing access, while smaller teams wanting a known monthly bill may find the sales-led process inconvenient.

Platforms

Newsflare is available on the web, Android and iOS. The Android app supports creator uploads and responses to footage briefs. Buyers can also route feeds into Slack or Microsoft Teams using Newsflare's integration instructions. There is no API access for the video licensing plan.

Who it's for

Brands, social creators, agencies and television or film producers should consider Newsflare when authentic user-filmed footage, a specific location or a commissioned scene matters more than a standard stock workflow. AI companies can use its separate dataset programme when they can meet the five-hour, 1080p contribution requirement. It is less suitable for casual users who want free downloads, immediate checkout or a simple published price list.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 350,000 videos provide broad real-world coverage.
Pros: Briefs can commission footage to a specified subject, location and deadline.
Pros: Rights-managed, commercial licensing can be matched to territory, timing and duration.
Pros: AI datasets support generative, multimodal, detection and moderation use cases.
Cons: Buyers must contact the licensing team, and prices are not published.
Cons: Copyright protection is limited to Meta and YouTube.
Cons: Creators wait for a £25 balance before payment.
Cons: The licensing plan has no API access.

Alternatives

Browse Stock Video Websites for a wider directory of stock-video services. Choose ProductionCrate instead if a freemium model and fixed plans are preferable, including a free tier with five downloads per day and a $49-per-month PRO plan. Adobe Stock is the better fit for buyers already working in Adobe's ecosystem who want app, API and mobile access with a free trial. Pick CriticalPast when archival evaluation is the priority and a no-charge, watermarked screener is sufficient. Coverr suits buyers seeking freemium access and published AI-credit tiers. Pexels or Pixabay are appropriate when free photos and videos are the main requirement. Artlist Music is a better match for subscription music and sound effects, while 123RF suits buyers comparing credit-based stock licensing.

Verdict

Newsflare is a strong choice for organisations that need authentic creator footage, bespoke commissions or purpose-built AI datasets under negotiated commercial terms. Its archive, briefs and creator network are the main reasons to choose it. Look elsewhere if transparent pricing, self-serve checkout, broad copyright monitoring or API access are essential.
