Overview

Klaviyo combines campaign tools with a helpdesk for ticket management, customer context, omnichannel support and AI automation. Bringing those functions together may suit teams handling both marketing and customer inquiries, while businesses focused on a single channel may not need the platform’s breadth. Klaviyo says its Customer Agent resolves 65% of questions autonomously.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Boston, Klaviyo says it powers more than 205,000 brands across 100 countries.

Key features

Campaigns and channels

Email automation, audience segmentation, landing pages and A/B testing span several stages of campaign work, from targeting to measurement. Klaviyo supports email, SMS, RCS, mobile push, WhatsApp and social marketing, making it a fit for teams that need to coordinate customer communications across channels. That breadth is less compelling for businesses that only need basic email outreach.

Integrations and developer tools

The app marketplace has more than 350 integrations. Developers can build apps and connections with Klaviyo APIs, webhooks, SDKs and warehouse syncs. This range can help teams connect marketing work to a broader software setup, though businesses with simpler needs may not benefit from that flexibility.

Security and data handling

Klaviyo is SOC 2 Type II certified and provides GDPR-related data processing measures and tools for data subject rights requests. It states that it offers EU and US data residency. These are relevant considerations for organizations with security and privacy requirements, but do not by themselves determine whether the platform meets a particular organization’s obligations.

Pricing

Free

The Free plan is free, billed monthly. It includes up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends per month, $5 of mobile messages per month and $5 of Composer usage per month. The plan can remain available indefinitely while account limits are maintained, and free users receive full email support for the first 60 days. It is a useful way for a small operation to get started, but the profile and send caps leave little room for a growing audience. Sending may be paused or restricted when limits are exceeded.

Email

The Email plan has custom pricing and includes 15,000 emails per month. It may suit teams seeking a higher email allowance than the free tier, but the monthly email quota alone does not establish whether it meets a particular campaign volume.

Enterprise

Enterprise has custom pricing for large organizations with advanced needs. It is the option to consider when the free and Email plans do not match an organization’s requirements; its price depends on a custom quote.

Platforms

Klaviyo is web-based.

Who it's for

Klaviyo suits businesses that want campaign tools, customer data, multiple marketing channels and helpdesk functions in one platform. Its free plan gives first-time users a way to begin without a subscription cost, while the larger plans address higher-volume or advanced needs through custom pricing. It is less suitable for a small team whose outreach already fits within simpler tools, or for anyone who needs the free tier to support a large audience.

Pros and cons

Pro: Email automation, segmentation, landing pages and A/B testing cover core campaign tasks in one platform.
Pro: Six supported marketing channels and more than 350 integrations give teams options for coordinating campaigns and connecting other tools.
Pro: Helpdesk features, including ticket management and customer context, bring customer-service work alongside marketing.
Con: The free plan’s 250 active profiles and 500 monthly email sends are restrictive for businesses with a larger audience or frequent campaigns.
Con: The Free plan’s mobile-message and Composer budgets are each only $5 per month, and sending may be restricted if limits are exceeded.

Alternatives

Twilio Segment is worth considering for a web, iOS or Android option with a free plan, a free trial, 1,000 visitors per month, 500,000 Reverse ETL records per month, two sources and 700+ integrations.

OneSignal offers a free plan for individuals and organizations just starting out, with 10,000 email sends per month and 1,000 monthly active users. Choose it when those stated allowances better fit your needs than Klaviyo’s 500 monthly free email sends and 250 active profiles.

Connectif is a paid alternative with a free trial and Android, API, iOS and web platforms. Pega CRM is a paid, web-based alternative with a free trial.

Braze is a paid alternative with a free trial and Android, API, iOS and web platforms. CleverTap is another paid option with a free trial; its Core plan costs 85.00 USD per month, with taxes applying, add-ons excluded, and billing starting after the 30-day trial.

Netcore Customer Engagement is a paid alternative with a free trial and custom pricing based on monthly tracked users and feature configuration.

Verdict

Choose Klaviyo if your business needs coordinated marketing across several channels, campaign tools and a helpdesk in one web platform. Its broad feature set and integration marketplace are the strongest reasons to pick it; the small free allowances and custom pricing on higher plans are reasons to look elsewhere if you need more predictable costs or only a simpler marketing tool.
