Overview

Unimus brings configuration backup, change tracking, auditing, compliance, and automation into one on-premises product. It says it supports more than 400 device types from over 150 vendors, a useful breadth for networks that span multiple vendors. Keeping the deployment on-premises also keeps configuration data within the customer’s network, which matters to organizations with data-control requirements.

Security controls include application-layer encryption for sensitive database data, while device credentials and API tokens use AES-128-CBC with a user-defined key. Unimus also lists role-based access control, LDAP and RADIUS support, multi-factor authentication, and system access history. Its stated coverage includes ISO 9001:2015, ISO 22301:2019, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, and PCI DSS Merchant Compliance.

Key features

Backups and version history: Automatic configuration backups preserve prior versions, giving administrators a record to consult when reviewing or recovering from changes.
Change tracking and integration: Graphical diffs make configuration changes easier to inspect. A REST API supports integration with other tools and workflows, while notifications can be sent by email, Pushover, or Slack.
Deployment and data pulls: Scheduled, zero-touch network-wide configuration deployment can reduce repetitive rollout work. Scheduled or triggered pulls of configuration and runtime data add flexibility for ongoing collection.
Monitoring inventory synchronization: Unimus describes synchronization with monitoring systems; documented integrations include LibreNMS, Nautobot, NetBox, NetXMS, Observium, PRTG, and Zabbix. This can help teams keep device inventories aligned with existing monitoring tools.
Compliance and access controls: Compliance auditing is part of the product, but Compliance is excluded from Free and Standard plans. Role-based access and authentication options provide administrators with controls over who can access the system.

Pricing

Unimus uses a freemium model. The Free plan is free, covers 10 device licences, has no time limit, and includes community support. It includes all features except Compliance and SAML/OIDC, making it suitable for a small environment evaluating core backup and change workflows. The cap is firm at 10 devices, and the lack of those two features may rule it out for teams with compliance or federated sign-in requirements.

Standard has custom pricing, is billed yearly per device, and supports up to 1,000 devices. It offers email support and excludes Compliance and SAML/OIDC. Advanced is also custom pricing, billed yearly per device for up to 1,000 devices; it adds Compliance and SAML/OpenID/OIDC, as well as 8/5 phone support. Those options make Advanced the more appropriate per-device tier when compliance or phone assistance is important.

Unlimited Standard has custom annual pricing for unlimited devices, 8/5 phone support, and Offline Mode, but excludes Compliance and SAML/OIDC. Unlimited Advanced has custom annual pricing for unlimited devices, 24/7 phone support, Compliance, SAML/OpenID/OIDC, and an Enterprise Contract. Offline Mode is available on Unlimited licenses and is not supported on per-device licenses, so air-gapped deployments need an Unlimited tier. The paid tiers list email support, with phone support specified for Advanced per-device and both Unlimited plans as described above.

Platforms

Unimus is deployed on-premises and supports Linux, Windows, web access, and API integration. Its on-premises design is central to its data-control appeal, but organizations seeking a hosted deployment should look elsewhere.

Who it's for

Unimus is a strong fit for IT teams managing varied network hardware that want versioned backups, visible changes, and scheduled configuration deployment in one system. The Free plan can serve a small network of up to 10 devices; larger estates can choose per-device plans up to 1,000 devices or an Unlimited license. It is less suitable when a team needs Offline Mode but cannot use an Unlimited tier, or needs Compliance on a plan that excludes it.

Pros and cons

Pro: Support for more than 400 device types from over 150 vendors can accommodate mixed-vendor networks.
Pro: Backups, graphical diffs, notifications, and deployment automation cover several recurring configuration-management tasks in one product.
Pro: On-premises deployment and customer-network data retention suit organizations that want configuration data kept in their environment.
Con: The free tier stops at 10 device licences and omits Compliance and SAML/OIDC, limiting its fit for larger or more controlled deployments.
Con: Offline Mode is limited to Unlimited licenses, which rules out per-device plans for air-gapped environments.
Con: Paid-plan prices are custom, so buyers cannot compare their costs from a published amount.

Alternatives

Compare network configuration management software if you want to consider the broader category. ManageEngine Network Configuration Manager is worth considering if mobile platforms matter or if its free edition’s two-device cap suits a smaller trial. Gluware may suit teams looking for a community edition capped at 20 devices, with its full application suite except Topology. rConfig is an option for readers who want a no-device-limit, MIT-licensed Core plan running on their own hardware. Arista NG Firewall is another freemium option, focused on basic security and connectivity features.

Netpicker may appeal to teams seeking an unlimited-device free Foundation tier with single-user access and Professional features for 10 devices. NetBrain is a paid alternative licensed by network component and seat, with Change Management and Application Assurance as add-on modules. Oxidized is a free, self-hosted alternative under Apache-2.0. NetKeep is another free, self-hosted option for Linux amd64 or arm64 servers under AGPL-3.0.

Verdict

Choose Unimus if your team needs on-premises configuration backup, change oversight, and deployment automation across a diverse device estate. Its combination of broad device support, integrations, and data staying within your network is its clearest advantage. Look elsewhere if you require air-gapped operation on a per-device license, or need Compliance on a plan that excludes it.
