Overview

SRTGen is an AI video-localization service for creators and teams that need more than automatic captions. It brings transcription, translation, dubbing, styling, review, and export together, but its free allowance is small and paid prices increase after two months.

Key features

Upload audio or video to create editable, time-coded transcripts, then review captions, translate them, apply styling, burn them into video, or export SRT, VTT, ASS, and TXT files. MCP agent localization also supports JSON export. Speaker identification and brand caption presets make the service useful for polished, repeatable publishing, not just transcription.

Translation covers more than 100 languages, and the workflow includes voice dubbing. Voice-clone slots range from 3 on Free to 100 on Business. SRTGen names OpenAI, Cartesia, and ElevenLabs for synthetic voices. It supports content for YouTube, TikTok, Reels, Shorts, podcasts, courses, marketing videos, and news, so it can suit both short-form creators and teams handling longer material.

MCP-compatible connections include Codex, Claude, Gemini, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Windsurf. The service also offers a REST API, with full developer API access on higher plans. Agent localization allows uploads up to 20 GiB; for videos over 200 MB, the recommended workflow extracts a compact MP3 locally while the original stays on the user's computer for final rendering. This flexibility will matter most to automation-minded teams, rather than people seeking a simple caption editor.

Collaborative Workspaces provide email invitations, admin, editor, and viewer roles, shared style templates, pooled credits and billing, and real-time project synchronization. Plans include secure cloud storage from 2 GB to 500 GB. SRTGen says uploaded files are stored in Backblaze B2, and audio processing may involve AssemblyAI, Google Gemini, ElevenLabs, and Cartesia. It describes TLS/HTTPS in transit, encrypted storage for sensitive credentials, role-based controls, hashed API keys, short-lived signed sessions, rate limiting, and periodic security reviews. Deleted project files are queued for deletion within 30 days; account deletion schedules permanent file deletion within 90 days, while AI processing logs may remain for up to two years.

Pricing

The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes 20 signup credits, 20 transcription minutes, 40 translation minutes, up to 4k speech characters, 2 GB of storage, and one seat. It also offers SRT, VTT, and TXT export, three voice-clone slots, and a screen recorder capped at five minutes and 720p. That is enough to explore the workflow, but the credit and minute caps make it a poor fit for steady publishing.

Starter costs 4.00 USD per month for the first two months, then $8/mo. It includes 360 credits, 360 transcription minutes, 720 translation minutes, 20 GB storage, 10 voice-clone slots, and one seat. This is the entry point for an individual social-media creator who needs recurring capacity beyond the free caps.

Pro costs 14.00 USD per month for the first two months, then $24/mo. Its 1,500 monthly credits, 1,500 transcription minutes, 3,000 translation minutes, 100 GB storage, 30 voice-clone slots, and three seats better suit localization professionals or small teams. Business costs 49.00 USD per month for the first two months, then $69/mo, and raises those allowances to 5,000 credits, 5,000 transcription minutes, 10,000 translation minutes, 500 GB storage, 100 voice-clone slots, and 10 seats. It is aimed at high-volume brand work, though the renewal price is a substantial step up.

Pro and Business charge $3.00 per month for each additional seat. Non-expiring overage credits cost 1.00 USD per once for 20 Credits. Yearly billing offers a stated 25% saving, and non-expiring top-ups are also offered. Enterprise has custom pricing for bulk processing, automation pipelines, and dedicated agency services. The service provides a FAQ center, contact option, documentation, and feedback link for support.

Platforms

SRTGen is available on web and through an API. Its support for MCP agents and higher-plan developer API access make it more suitable for connected workflows than a standalone caption utility.

Who it's for

Choose SRTGen if you publish across languages or need transcription, caption styling, dubbing, and export in one process. The Free plan is useful for a limited trial; Starter fits an individual with regular but moderate needs, while Pro and Business add meaningful monthly capacity and seats for teams. If you only need occasional transcription or basic subtitle files, the broader workflow and recurring plan costs may be unnecessary.

Pros and cons

Pros

Combines transcription, translation, dubbing, review, styling, and export, reducing the need to split localization across tools.
Exports SRT, VTT, ASS, and TXT, with JSON through agent localization, plus speaker identification and brand presets.
Scales storage, usage, voice-clone slots, and seats across paid tiers, with team permissions and shared templates.

Cons

Free use is constrained by credits, transcription and translation minutes, speech characters, and a five-minute, 720p recording limit.
Starter remains a one-seat plan, while added seats cost $3.00 per month on Pro and Business.
Paid introductory prices last only two months before renewing at higher monthly rates.

Alternatives

Fluen AI Subtitle Generator is worth considering if you want a free option with up to three files of up to 90 minutes each, or need its API, extension, macOS, or Windows platforms.

EasyCaptions may fit a web-only creator whose free allowance of one processed hour per month and 200 MB maximum upload per video covers the workload.

Captions is an alternative for readers seeking Android or iOS access, or a Max plan that includes AI Edit styles, AI video creation, and digital twins or custom AI actors.

CaptionRoom offers a free editor for manual captions, with two styles and exports up to 1080p without a watermark.

Whisper is the free, open-source choice for people comfortable installing software locally with Python and ffmpeg.

EditCap has a free tier capped at four transcription minutes per month and two minutes per video, with 1080p export.

Moonshot gives web users five minutes to upload and preview once, plus 15 AI credits and 109 transcription languages, but its free tier has no video export.

Taption may suit users who need API or web access and a free plan with zero monthly minutes but a five-hour maximum file length and 2 GB maximum file size.

Verdict

SRTGen is a strong fit for creators and localization teams that want translation, voice dubbing, styling, and delivery managed together, with room to add seats and automate workflows. Its main drawback is the sharp limit on free use and the paid-price increase after the opening two months. Pick it for a recurring, multi-step localization workflow; look elsewhere if your needs stop at basic captions or transcription.
