Overview

LiveSchool brings behavior tracking and incident records together with points, rewards, and family access. Schools pay for staff accounts, while parents, guardians, and students can use the service for free. Educators, students, and families can sign in through a browser or the LiveSchool Next app on iPhone, iPad, and Android.

The platform is designed for K–12 schools and districts. Its roots go back to a paper-based behavior-system prototype created for a Nashville middle school in 2011, a school-focused starting point that still aligns with its emphasis on shared behavior and culture programs.

Key features

Behavior and positive reinforcement

LiveSchool combines behavior and incident tracking with positive reinforcement, PBIS support, and SEL program support. House Points and a rewards store give schools ways to organize incentives alongside behavior records. This is a better fit for schools building a consistent recognition approach than for buyers who only need to monitor devices or manage a single classroom.

Family access, rosters, and support

Family engagement is part of the platform, and free parent, guardian, and student accounts mean schools do not add separate charges for those users. Clever and ClassLink support roster synchronization and single sign-on, including OneRoster files through Clever, which can reduce the work of keeping accounts aligned with school rosters.

All plans include live chat, phone, and email support from former educators on school days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. That schedule offers direct help during the school day, but it is not round-the-clock coverage.

Student-data protections

LiveSchool states that it complies with FERPA and COPPA and that an annual third-party audit covers its security, privacy, and operational controls. Behavioral data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2+ and at rest with AES-256, with role-based access controls. Student records are deleted by default within 60 days after service termination unless law or a data-sharing agreement requires otherwise.

Pricing

LiveSchool has a free school-year pilot and paid subscriptions. Paid plans require at least 10 staff and a 12-month term, so even the entry paid tier is a school-level commitment rather than a small purchase for one teacher.

Plan	Price and terms	What it includes
Pilot	Free	Billed as a school-year pilot; all features, SSO and rostering, one grade level, and up to one school year.
Starter	1960.00 USD per year; billed $49/staff/year for 40 staff	SSO and rostering, up to 10 behaviors, one behavior alert, basic reports, and standard support.
Premium	3960.00 USD per year; billed $99/staff/year for 40 staff	SSO and rostering, unlimited behaviors and alerts, student shopping, all reports, hall passes, and premium support.
District	Custom pricing	All Premium features, SOC 2 compliance, data integration, a district dashboard, and enterprise support.

Pilot gives a school a bounded way to try the full feature set, but it covers only one grade level and one school year. Starter is the lower-cost paid option for schools whose programs fit within 10 behaviors and one alert; its basic reports and lack of hall passes or student shopping make it a less complete fit for larger recognition programs. Premium costs more but removes those behavior and alert caps and adds the shopping and hall-pass functions. District is aimed at broader deployments that need integration, dashboard, and enterprise support, with custom pricing.

Platforms

LiveSchool supports web, iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows. Browser access and the LiveSchool Next app on iPhone, iPad, and Android serve educators, students, and families; the supported-platform list also includes macOS and Windows.

Who it's for

LiveSchool is strongest for K–12 schools and districts that want staff to track behavior, reinforce positive conduct, and involve families through one platform. Free family accounts and Clever or ClassLink roster support make it more practical for school-wide use. It is less suitable for a single teacher, a short-term project, or a school unwilling to commit to at least 10 staff for 12 months.

Pros and cons

Pros: Behavior tracking, incident records, points, rewards, PBIS and SEL support bring conduct and recognition into one school-focused system.
Pros: Parents, guardians, and students can use the service free, while roster synchronization and single sign-on are supported through Clever and ClassLink.
Pros: Stated encryption, access controls, compliance claims, annual third-party audits, and a default 60-day student-record deletion window give schools concrete data-protection commitments to assess.
Cons: The minimum of 10 staff and 12-month term rule out small, individual-teacher subscriptions.
Cons: Starter caps schools at 10 behaviors and one alert and omits Premium's student shopping and hall passes.
Cons: Support is limited to school days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, so urgent help outside that window is not covered by the stated schedule.

Alternatives

For device-focused classroom management rather than behavior tracking and rewards, consider KyberClassroom, which offers a $5.00 USD per year device-based plan and a free trial but no free plan. Senso.cloud is another paid option with a free trial; its Senso for Microsoft Teams plan is priced at 1.00 GBP per year and focuses on monitoring Teams chat for inappropriate messages and images. classroom.cloud is a paid alternative with a free trial. AB Tutor offers a paid cloud plan with a minimum of 100 devices and a free trial. NetSupport School is a paid alternative with a free trial and device-based licensing. Anchor is a free alternative with no licence fee or per-seat charge, using a self-hosted backend for one school per deployment. Classwize is another paid option. LanSchool Air is a paid option with a free trial and quote-based pricing.

Verdict

Choose LiveSchool if your K–12 school or district wants behavior tracking, recognition, family engagement, and school roster integration in a shared system. Its strongest case is the combination of positive-culture tools and free family access; its clearest drawback is the 10-staff, 12-month minimum, which makes it a poor match for smaller or short-term deployments.
