Overview

PhotoBoost is an AI image and video enhancement service for people who want to repair, brighten, colorize or enlarge photos across web, desktop and mobile. It suits casual users and small creative workloads that can work within credit limits; its main caveat is that generated improvements are not reliable evidence of what an image originally showed.

Its mix of cloud AI tools and desktop local tools offers flexibility, but the best fit depends on whether you need occasional edits or regular high-resolution and video processing. For broader browsing, see AI Photo Enhancer Software, AI Image Enhancers and AI Photo Editors.

Key features

Image repair and enhancement

PhotoBoost covers sharpening, face enhancement, old-photo restoration, colorization, lighting and color enhancement, and image upscaling by up to 4×. Batch processing is also available, which can help when a set of images needs similar treatment, though no batch-size limit is stated. This breadth makes it more useful than a single-purpose sharpener for mixed photo repair tasks.

Web, desktop and video workflows

The web app accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, WebP and HEIC images up to 45 MB, and automatically corrects orientation. That is a practical range for common photo files, but the file-size cap can rule out larger inputs. Native desktop apps support macOS 11+, Windows 10+ and 64-bit Linux, and export at full resolution without the web upload limits described for desktop. The video tool upscales 2× frame by frame, preserves audio and exports MP4; Pro caps video at 15 seconds and Max at 60 seconds, so neither tier is suited to longer footage.

Credits, privacy and reliability

Credits are usage units for cloud AI processing, and each job's cost varies with the enhancement and output resolution. This makes cloud spend less predictable than a simple per-image allowance. PhotoBoost says uploads are not used to train AI models unless it asks for and receives explicit consent. Web editor projects are stored in browser IndexedDB; cloud enhancement uploads only the selected image, and retained remote content is kept only as reasonably needed for service and legal purposes. The privacy policy also describes access controls, encrypted transport, restricted processing systems and monitoring. Enhanced results can be inaccurate or artificial, so the product is a poor choice when identity, authenticity, historical accuracy or high-stakes decisions depend on the image.

Pricing

The free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and includes two introductory credits total, cloud output up to 3 MP, core editing tools and no credit card requirement. It is useful for trying the workflow, but the small one-time credit allowance and output cap make it unsuitable for ongoing enhancement.

Pro costs 39.99 USD per year, billed Or $4.99/week; cancel anytime. It includes 100 credits each week, video upscaling up to 15 seconds, unlimited local tools, output up to 20 MP, two concurrent jobs, no watermark and the desktop app. This is the more sensible subscription for regular individual use, but weekly credits and the resolution ceiling constrain cloud-heavy or larger-image work.

Max costs 79.99 USD per year, billed Or $9.99/week; cancel anytime. It raises the allowance to 200 credits each week, video length to 60 seconds, output to 32 MP and concurrent jobs to eight, while retaining unlimited local tools, no watermark and desktop access. It fits heavier workloads better, though the video duration remains short for full-length material.

For users who prefer to buy credits when needed, 200 credits costs 19.99 USD per month, 700 credits costs 49.99 USD per month, 1,500 credits costs 99.99 USD per month, and 3,200 credits costs 199.99 USD per month. These bundles avoid a weekly subscription allowance but still tie cloud processing to variable credit consumption. The cheaper free tier sacrifices ongoing credits and resolution; Pro gives up Max's higher quotas, resolution, job concurrency and video limit.

Platforms

PhotoBoost is available on web, macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Mobile apps support iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Desktop is the strongest fit for users who value full-resolution export and local tools; web is convenient for supported image uploads, while mobile extends access to phones and tablets.

Who it's for

PhotoBoost is a good fit for people restoring personal photos, improving lighting or color, sharpening images, and occasionally enlarging short video clips. Pro suits regular individual use, while Max better serves users who need more weekly credits, higher resolution or several concurrent jobs. It is not the right choice for evidentiary restoration or workflows that require long-form video upscaling.

Pros and cons

Pros

Broad repair toolkit: sharpening, restoration, faces, colorization, lighting and upscaling cover several common image problems in one service.
Desktop flexibility: local tools and full-resolution export without web upload limits suit larger files and desktop workflows.
Clear privacy boundary: uploaded images are not used for AI training without explicit consent.
Useful tier progression: Max increases credits, output resolution and concurrent jobs for heavier use.

Cons

Cloud usage is variable: credit consumption changes with enhancement and output resolution, making usage harder to forecast.
Free access is only introductory: two credits total and a 3 MP cloud-output cap do not support sustained use.
Video limits are short: even Max supports up to 60 seconds, limiting its role for longer footage.
Results need judgment: AI enhancements may be artificial or inaccurate and should not be used to establish facts.

Alternatives

Choose Viesus if a lifetime free tier with 50 credits and AI upscaling or face reconstruction is more important than PhotoBoost's listed workflow range.

Cutout.Pro is another freemium option, with an 80-credits-per-month subscription at 5.00 USD per month for users comparing a smaller recurring credit package.

Palette may suit color-focused previewing: its free offer includes unlimited color previews, but previews are resized to 500x500px and watermarked.

HueFold is a freemium alternative for readers seeking a web or Android option.

Sogni is an API-oriented alternative with a free tier described as offering on-device rendering on Mac and iOS.

IObit Uninstaller is a Windows uninstall utility rather than an image enhancement alternative.

VanceAI Image Enhancer offers a freemium alternative with a Starter plan at 15.00 USD per month and 260 credits per month.

VanceAI Image Sharpener is a narrower alternative for sharpening, with a free web plan of 10 credits and one credit per result.

Verdict

PhotoBoost is a strong choice for people who need several kinds of photo repair across desktop, web and mobile, especially when local tools and full-resolution desktop export matter. The main reasons to look elsewhere are variable cloud-credit use, short video limits and the need for trustworthy, authentic image evidence.
