Overview

OpenCLM brings contract records, approval workflows, renewal tracking, templates and e-signatures into one platform. It is a strong fit for organizations that want source access or control over where the system runs; the free cloud plan’s single-user and five-signature monthly limits make it less useful for a working team.

Its central appeal is choice: use a hosted plan, pay for support and collaboration, or self-host the AGPL v3 platform without licensing fees. That flexibility comes with a practical divide between the very limited free cloud tier and the paid plans needed for multi-user work.

Key features

The searchable repository combines rich-text editing, version history and metadata, while templates and renewal tracking support the recurring work around agreements. Approvals can run sequentially or in parallel, with routing, escalation and notifications. Together, these tools cover more than document storage, particularly for teams with defined review paths.

OpenCLM provides complete source access under AGPL v3 and supports self-hosting on servers or a private cloud. The REST API-first design has API access on Professional and above. Teams adds advanced permissions, bulk operations and audit logs for up to 25 users; 12 preconfigured roles offer granular resource-level permissions. The interface supports six languages.

The platform’s security page lists SOC 2, GDPR, ISO 27001, HIPAA and SOX controls, along with full audit trails. It also describes bank-level encryption and regular security audits. Professional includes Slack and Salesforce integrations, and OpenSign provides e-signatures. These credentials and controls may matter to organizations with governance requirements, but the plan choice still determines collaboration, API access and support.

Pricing

The hosted Free plan costs $0 forever and allows one user, unlimited contracts and five e-signatures per month. That is a useful way for one person to organize agreements, but the signature quota is a real ceiling for regular signing, and the user cap rules out shared work.

Professional costs $49.00 USD per month, billed monthly, for one user, advanced workflows and API access. It includes a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Despite the higher price, the one-user limit means it suits an individual who needs workflow and API capabilities, not a team seeking shared access. Annual billing saves 20%; Professional is listed at $2,390/year.

Teams costs $649.00 USD per month, billed monthly, and supports up to 25 users with analytics and collaboration. It is the hosted tier for groups that need to work together, though its price is a substantial step up from Professional. Enterprise has custom pricing, unlimited users and advanced security for organizations that need scale beyond Teams.

Self-hosted plans trade a hosted setup for deployment control and different support levels. Self-Hosted Free costs $0, with community support only. Self-Hosted Professional is $199.00 USD per month, billed at 20% off the cloud price, with email support; Self-Hosted Teams is $519.00 USD per month at 20% off the cloud price, with priority support. Self-Hosted Enterprise uses custom pricing and includes dedicated support and an SLA. The free self-hosted option is compelling for organizations able to operate the platform themselves; those needing vendor support must budget for a paid tier.

Platforms

OpenCLM is available through hosted and self-hosted deployment, including installation on servers or a private cloud. Mobile app access is included on the Free plan. Its API access is available on Professional and higher, making that tier relevant to organizations integrating contract workflows with other systems.

Who it's for

OpenCLM suits organizations that value deployment control, source access or a unified place for contract storage and approvals. A solo user can start free, while teams of up to 25 can use the collaboration tier. It is a weaker fit for groups that need multi-user access at low cost: the free and Professional hosted plans each allow only one user, and Teams costs $649.00 USD per month.

Pros and cons

Pro: Unlimited contracts on the free hosted plan make it practical for a solo user building a repository without a storage cap.
Pro: AGPL v3 source access and free self-hosting give organizations control over deployment without licensing fees.
Pro: Approval routing, escalation, renewal tracking and e-signatures cover multiple stages of contract work in one platform.
Con: The free tier allows just one user and five e-signatures per month, limiting it to light individual use.
Con: Hosted Professional also allows one user, while shared collaboration starts at $649.00 USD per month on Teams.
Con: Self-Hosted Free includes community support only; email, priority or dedicated support requires a paid plan.

Verdict

Choose OpenCLM if source access, self-hosting or a broad contract workflow in one system matters more than a low-cost shared hosted plan. Its combination of free self-hosting, approval tools and renewal tracking is the clearest reason to shortlist it. Look elsewhere if your team needs multiple hosted users without moving to the $649.00 USD per month Teams tier, or if the free plan’s five monthly signatures are too restrictive.
