Overview

Mextures brings together an iOS photo editor, texture and preset products, and a free Photoshop plugin called Console. The iOS app’s unlimited adjustable layers support iterative work: users can revise individual effects without giving up control over how they combine. This makes Mextures a strong fit for stylized images, not a replacement for a general-purpose editor or a complete RAW and video color workflow.

Console extends the offering to Photoshop, but its current beta has a significant reliability caveat: the maker warns that it crashes with the latest Photoshop and macOS Sonoma. That makes the plugin a less dependable choice for anyone whose work relies on those versions.

Key features

Layered editing: The iOS app allows unlimited layers to be moved, hidden, rotated and adjusted for opacity. That flexibility helps users build up a look in stages and revisit specific effects, though the workflow is centered on creative treatment rather than broad photo-editing tasks.
Textures and film looks: The iOS collection includes more than 200 stackable textures, including grain, dust, light leaks and color gradients, along with 30 film presets. The variety suits photography and artwork that benefit from a designed finish; it is less relevant when the priority is technical image correction.
Formulas: The app includes more than 300 professionally created Formulas, and Formula Manager can import other users’ recipes and export your own. This supports reuse and sharing of looks instead of rebuilding an effect combination each time.
Desktop compatibility: Console is compatible with Photoshop CC 2016–2023 on Windows 10 or newer and macOS 11 or newer. Film Presets also work with Console, Lightroom CC 2021/2022, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere, but separate purchases require software-specific versions. These presets are not conversion LUTs, so RAW or LOG footage must be normalized first.
Usage rights: Textures may be used in personal projects and work for commercial or paid clients. Reselling or redistributing them requires written consent, so Mextures is not a source for assets to repackage or pass on.

Pricing

Mextures combines one-time purchases with subscriptions and free access. The iOS Mextures Photo Editor costs 1.99 USD per once, with in-app purchases also offered. That is the direct entry point for iPhone and iPad editing, but the editor purchase does not itself promise access to every paid pack.

X-Film Overlay Pack: 10.00 USD per month includes 11 overlays at 4000 x 4000 pixels. It suits someone who wants this specific overlay set, but a monthly charge is a poor fit for a one-off asset need.
Mextures Yearly Membership: 89.00 USD per year, billed Per Year, covers all products during the subscription, packs released during that subscription, and beta Console access. It is aimed at users who expect to use multiple products and new releases over the year. A desktop purchase does not unlock iOS in-app purchases, so mobile buyers should account for that separation.
Mextures Lifetime Membership: 139.00 USD per month, billed Pay Once, provides lifetime access to all Mextures products and future overlay and color-grade packs, with no yearly subscription. It fits committed users seeking continuing access without annual renewal; the initial payment is much higher than the single-app option.
Console: Free for the Photoshop plugin, with future plugin updates remaining free. It offers a no-cost desktop route, tempered by its beta status and current crash warning.

There is no free trial. Commercial use is permitted within the texture license, but resale and redistribution are not. Subscription access and the iOS in-app purchase boundary matter more than the low-cost app entry price for users planning to build a larger collection.

Platforms

Mextures lists iOS, macOS and Windows support. The iOS app is the dedicated editing experience; Console brings Photoshop compatibility to Windows 10 or newer and macOS 11 or newer, subject to the stated Photoshop version range and current beta issue. Film Presets extend into Lightroom CC 2021/2022, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere when the corresponding software-specific version is purchased.

Who it's for

Mextures suits photographers, filmmakers and designers who want expressive overlays and repeatable film-inspired looks. Its textures can serve landscape, portrait and macro photography, as well as album art, matte painting, social media and blog imagery. It is a particularly sensible choice for iOS users who value adjustable layers and shared Formulas. Users seeking a general photo editor, dependable current-version Console support, or a conversion step for RAW or LOG footage should look elsewhere or keep other tools in their workflow.

Pros and cons

Pros: Unlimited, adjustable iOS layers allow precise revisions; more than 200 textures, 30 presets and over 300 Formulas provide a substantial creative-effects palette; Formula Manager supports importing and sharing looks; permitted commercial client use expands the collection’s practical use; Console is free and future plugin updates are intended to remain free.
Cons: The offering is focused on stylized effects rather than general editing; Console currently crashes with the latest Photoshop and macOS Sonoma; Film Presets do not convert RAW or LOG footage; desktop membership does not unlock iOS in-app purchases; resale and redistribution of textures are prohibited without written consent.

Verdict

Mextures is the right pick for photographers and visual creators who want to assemble and share layered film-like effects, especially on iOS. Its editable layers, texture range and Formula ecosystem give the collection a clear creative purpose. Choose another workflow if you need broad editing tools, RAW or LOG normalization, or stable Console behavior on the latest Photoshop and macOS Sonoma.
